Chapter 195 Lassie Had a Headache
The phone call ended abruptly, and Albert just stared at the screen, feeling a bit helpless. He sighed, slipped the phone back into his pocket, and lit up another cigarette, the frustration in his eyes quickly fading away.
Behind him, the Valdemar uncles were bickering about something. Albert turned around, his expression turning icy and sharp.
It was noon, and the sun was pouring in through the windows. Yvette, who had just woken up from a nap, stretched lazily. She never slept well in the hospital. Now that Lassie was home and Zora was helping out, Yvette could finally get some decent rest.
Hearing voices from Lassie's room, Yvette figured Lassie was awake and chatting with Zora, so she went to get some water without a worry.
In the room, Lassie was sitting up in bed, looking pretty annoyed. Zora sighed. "Mom, seriously, even if you push me, I can't come up with the money. Kyle's just a kid, and we've got bills piling up. Wayne had to borrow a ton for your treatment."
"Borrowed?" Lassie snapped, "Wasn't all the money for my surgery and treatment from Yvette?"
"Your surgery was really complicated. Yvette's money ran out a while ago. Plus, you were in the ICU and then a private room, which cost a fortune." Zora sighed again. "I was hoping when you woke up, you could help us pay back what Wayne borrowed!"
Lassie's face darkened. "I don't have any money either. I spent it all on a new house! I bought such a big house for the three of you. If I had savings, I wouldn't be asking you for money."
"What do we do now?" Zora asked, looking worried, "Maybe we can hold off on the house renovation for now? Once we get your medical bills sorted, we can start saving up for it."
Lassie looked even more upset. If it weren't for this accident, Yvette and Wayne could have chipped in for the house renovation, and they could have moved in. A nicely decorated house wouldn't have cost too much.
Once they moved into the new house, they could rent out the old one and have some extra income. She wouldn't have to work at her age. But this accident drained Yvette's savings, and Wayne had to borrow money.
Lassie got anxious, shouting, "How can we save? Yvette is about to divorce Albert, and we have no way to save money."
Zora looked embarrassed. Wayne couldn't do heavy work, and Yvette had quit her job. The family was almost out of income. If this kept up, they wouldn't even be able to cover basic living expenses.
Zora quickly added, "My salary is low, just enough for Kyle and me. But since the family is in trouble, I can buy groceries for the house."
Lassie glared at Zora, feeling extremely frustrated. Zora's salary was like a drop in the ocean of their debt. "That's definitely not enough! Yvette even said I should repay the money borrowed from Albert!"
Understanding that Lassie’s words were meant for her, Zora asked on purpose, "How about borrowing more money to renovate the new house? Once it's done, you can sell this one. Selling it would not only clear the debts and cover your medical expenses but also leave some money for your retirement."
The more Lassie listened, the more her head hurt. She couldn't bear to sell the house. She interrupted Zora, "Stop talking. You're giving me a headache."
Lassie rolled her eyes and, after a while, pointed outside the door. "Get Yvette over here."
"Okay." Zora nodded.
"Yvette, Mom is awake and looking for you." Zora came out of Lassie's room, patted Yvette's waist, and her expression was a bit complicated.
Yvette didn't notice and just nodded. "Okay." Yvette walked into the room and saw Lassie trying to get out of bed. She quickly went over to help. "Where are you going?"
"I'm uncomfortable lying down. Now that I can move, I want to walk around." Lassie, with Yvette's help, struggled to get out of bed, saying, "I need to cherish the times when I'm healthy, to be free and go wherever I want."
"You should rest well now," Yvette said helplessly.
Lassie got out of bed, walked out of the room, and pointed to the balcony. "I need to go to the balcony to get some sun. I feel awful not seeing the sunlight for so long."
Lassie took a few slow steps, but her expression remained unpleasant, and she let out a long sigh. Yvette looked at Lassie with concern, asking, "What's wrong?"
"I don't know." Lassie frowned and raised her hand to her forehead. "I just feel my head is still uncomfortable, very much so, but I can't tell where it's coming from."
"I told you to keep resting. You just had surgery; you won't recover that quickly," Yvette said anxiously, "Why don't you go back to bed and lie down? Don't make me worry."
Hearing Yvette's words, Zora also came out of the kitchen, asking, "Mom, are you feeling unwell again?"
"Yes." Lassie looked puzzled as she went on, "But it's not the surgery site that's bothering me. I can't explain it."
Yvette said anxiously, "Then go back to bed. I'll make an appointment and take you back to the hospital for a check-up."
Lassie closed her eyes, saying casually, "Alright, my body is really getting worse day by day."
Yvette didn't dare to rest for a moment. After helping Lassie back to her room, she quickly started making an appointment. The hospital where Lassie had her surgery was top-notch, and appointments were hard to get. Yvette tried for a long time before finally securing one.
Yvette immediately took Lassie to the hospital. The hospital was crowded, and Lassie's condition was special; she couldn't stand or sit for long. Yvette pushed her in a wheelchair, taking her around for various tests, sweating profusely.
After finally completing several tests, it was already the closing time. Yvette said, "Mom, the results won't be out today. Let's go home first, and I'll come back tomorrow to get them."
Lassie's eyes flickered, and she waved at Yvette, saying, "It's okay. Let Zora pick them up on her way to work tomorrow."
Yvette agreed, "Alright, let's go home first. If you're feeling uncomfortable, take some painkillers."
Lassie responded, her tone meaningful, "Yvette, my body is really giving out on me. With you and Wayne in this mess, how am I supposed to chill?"
Startled, Yvette cut her off, "Don't say that!"
