Chapter 143 Lassie Asks Albert for Money Again

Yvette looked determined. Albert knew if he didn't leave, she'd really get mad.

Albert sighed. He knew he couldn't fix things with just a few words. "Alright," he said, giving in.

When Albert agreed, Yvette relaxed a bit.

She opened the door for him. "Goodbye."

Albert felt a pang of hurt. "Take care of yourself. We'll talk later," he said softly.

Yvette thought, 'Talk about what?'

Her heart sank. She realized Albert wasn't just apologizing; he wanted to discuss the divorce.

Yvette gave a bitter smile. "Alright, leave."

Lassie came out with clean pajamas. "Albert, I brought your clothes. After you shower, you can rest with Yvette."

She looked up and saw only Yvette.

Yvette gave her a cold look. "Mom, don't bother."

"Where's Albert?" Lassie asked.

"He left," Yvette pointed outside.

Lassie's face changed. "You drove him away?"

"Yes," Yvette said coldly, "I told you to stop dreaming. Albert and I are getting a divorce."

Lassie was upset. "He came to make peace. He explained it was a misunderstanding, that you had a miscarriage because of a stillbirth."

Yvette shook her head. "No. He came to discuss the divorce. I'm too tired to talk about it today, so I let him go."

Lassie looked furious. "Are you kidding me? You just lost a child, and your marriage is shaky. You should be treating him better, trying to get pregnant again to fix things, not pushing him away!"

"Mom!" Yvette snapped. "The divorce is final. Let's drop it, okay?"

She stormed into her room and slammed the door.

Lassie stared at the closed door, then at the clean pajamas in her hand, fuming. "Can't catch a break!"

Albert checked his flight suit and his schedule on his phone.

He hadn't flown for a week, and his boss had given him a final warning. If he didn't get back on track, there'd be consequences.

Albert thought, 'At least Yvette is back and safe. That's a relief.'

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Steve walked in. "Mr. Valdemar, someone is looking for you outside, but she was stopped. Do you want to check it out?"

Albert asked, "Who's looking for me?"

Steve shrugged, "Seems like someone pretending to be your mother-in-law."

"Pretending?" Albert asked, confused. "Why do you think she's pretending?"

"She said she couldn't reach you and couldn't provide specific information about you."

Albert glanced at his phone, which was on Do Not Disturb mode, and saw several missed calls from Lassie.

He immediately got up, making a call as he hurried out of the office, "She's not pretending."

Steve was taken aback. "So she really is your mother-in-law? She didn't seem like it."

He kept his thoughts about her temper to himself.

When Albert arrived, Lassie was still ranting, hands on her hips, all fired up.

"I told you Albert is my son-in-law, but you wouldn't let me in! I want to see how you handle this!"

Seeing Albert, the receptionist looked embarrassed. "Mr. Valdemar, is she really your family?"

"Yes," Albert nodded, then turned to Lassie, "Mom, it's not convenient to talk here. Let's go somewhere else."

"Alright!" Lassie glared at everyone. "Let's see if you dare stop me now!"

People exchanged glances, not daring to say more but clearly surprised.

With his flight time approaching, Albert took Lassie to the airport café.

Albert checked his watch. "Lassie, I have a flight soon, so we need to be quick."

"No problem, I just wanted to see you." Lassie smiled. "It's all Yvette's fault for making you leave last night, so I thought I'd explain in person."

Albert pressed his lips together. "Just tell me what you need."

"No mother wants to see her child get divorced," Lassie sighed. "Yvette is stubborn and emotional after the miscarriage. You need to understand her."

Albert replied, "I know."

"So, the things she said recently are just nonsense." Lassie waved her hand. "Sometimes, emotions can run high. Don't worry, she'll stop talking about divorce once this blows over."

Lassie patted Albert's hand. "Don't worry, Albert, I want you as my son-in-law. If you trust me, don't give up. I won't let you two get divorced!"

Albert frowned slightly. "Lassie, I also don't want to divorce Yvette."

"That's great!" Lassie's eyes lit up. "Just hang in there. Once Yvette's emotions settle, she won't mention divorce anymore. And about the child, you two are still young. Once she recovers, you'll have babies."

Albert replied, "I'm very sorry about the child."

"Nobody wanted this to happen." Lassie comforted him. "It'll all be fine, don't worry."

"Alright," Albert replied.

Seeing Albert's expression improve, Lassie had a thought and her eyes shifted.

"I'll make sure to take good care of Yvette's health. She just had a miscarriage and needs to rest up." Lassie sighed. "If it weren't for the fact that we're looking to buy a house and are short on money, I'd make sure she gets the best care."

Albert asked, "Did you give Yvette the nutritional supplements I brought?"

"Of course, I did. She took all of them." Lassie smiled. "I mean, I also want to provide her with nutritious meals. But buying a house might make me overspend a bit. Albert, could you lend me some money to tide me over?"
