Chapter 172 Get Hayden's Number
David stood there, frozen, staring at Yvette's defiant look. He knew he had almost gone too far.
There were a lot of people around. If he had done what he was thinking, it would have caused a huge scandal, and the whole Valdemar family would have freaked out.
He was usually so calm and collected, but he almost did something really reckless. He almost hurt Yvette.
David swallowed hard, his jaw clenched, and his eyes showed he was holding back. After a moment, he managed a small smile and relaxed a bit. "No need to be so formal with me."
Then he slowly stood up, grabbed the medical kit, and offered his hand to Yvette. "Come on, you need to change out of these clothes."
Yvette nodded, took his hand, and used his help to get up from the ground.
"Sorry," Yvette said, looking a bit embarrassed, "I'll return these clothes once I've washed them."
"No need," David reassured her, "These belong to the Valdemar family. The party's over; you can just change back into your own clothes."
Yvette nodded and followed David out.
In the distance, Albert, who had been watching them, still had a cold expression. His gaze at their backs was icy. He lowered his eyes and finally turned to leave.
Yvette changed back into her own clothes, and it wasn't long before Hayden sent someone to call her.
Following the servant to Hayden's room, Yvette clenched her fists and walked in quietly, standing nervously by the sofa.
Seeing Hayden with an oxygen tube, Yvette looked at the servant as if seeking help.
Hayden, noticing her nervousness, chuckled softly. "I'm fine, just having some heart and lung issues, so I need oxygen. Yvette, have a seat."
The servant handed her a chair, and Yvette sat down. She asked, "Is there something you need?"
"Yes, thank you for waiting," Hayden said kindly, "I only recently learned about your marriage to Albert. I must apologize for any oversight towards you and your family, as I am one of Albert's elders."
Yvette's throat tightened. She hadn't expected someone of Hayden's status to say such things to her.
Yvette shook her head and lowered her eyes, saying, "The marriage was a decision between him and me. There's no need to apologize."
Hayden smiled. "I don't know much about your relationship, but Albert is quite stubborn and difficult to get along with. It must be hard for you."
Yvette bit her lip, unsure of Hayden's intentions, fearing it might be a prelude to something more.
"Actually, I called you here today for no other reason," Hayden said, pointing downstairs, "I don't know how much you know about the Valdemar family, but given Albert's personality, he probably hasn't told you much. However, I hope you can have some understanding."
"Grandpa, I'm sorry," Yvette said sincerely, "Albert and I are preparing for a divorce, so it doesn't matter whether I understand it or not. I'm sorry to say this while you're unwell, but I must be honest."
Hayden sighed slightly. "You may not understand the Valdemar family, but you know Albert to some extent. How could you not try to persuade him when he said he would forsake all the properties of the Valdemar family?"
Yvette kept her cool. "Even if we don't get divorced, he's got his own mind. If you're asking me to convince him to come back to the Valdemar family, I don't think I can do that."
Hayden looked a bit surprised, the probing look in his eyes fading, replaced by a faint smile.
He studied Yvette for a moment, then gestured to the servant, who handed her a card.
Yvette glanced at the numbers on it, puzzled. "What's this?"
"It's my private number," Hayden said with a smile. "I still hope you can persuade him to return to the Valdemar family, but it's not mandatory. If you need any help, you can call me."
In the library, Yvette picked a seat by the window. When she got tired, she looked up at the trees swaying gently in the wind outside, the greenery instantly relaxing her.
She rubbed her tired eyes. As she turned the page, a card fell out.
Yvette picked it up. It was Hayden's phone number.
She knew he was hinting that she should find a way to persuade Albert. Because in the future, she might need Hayden's help.
Yvette blinked and finally put the card back into the book.
Albert was right. If she wanted to cut ties with him and get divorced as soon as possible, she should cut ties with the entire Valdemar family.
Yvette was about to pick up her pen and continue reading when her phone suddenly rang.
The vibrating sound of the phone on the desk was particularly jarring in the silent library. Yvette quickly picked it up and walked to the side to answer it.
She glanced at the caller ID and was surprised to see it was Violet. She answered, "Do you need something?"
Violet's voice was choked with tears. "Yvette, did you do this on purpose? Your divorce from Albert has nothing to do with me. Why did you let your mom come to the company and cause trouble? Do you know how much it affected me?!"
Yvette was stunned. "What are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb. Your mom found me. Didn't you tell her where I was?"
Violet's accusatory tone left Yvette completely dumbfounded. Since the last time Lassie caused trouble at North Airlines and Yvette warned her, she hadn't done anything outrageous.
Yvette thought her threat had worked so that Lassie wouldn't act out again. But not long after, she caused trouble for Violet again.
Last time, they were lucky Violet wasn't at the company. This time, she went when Violet was there.
Yvette closed her eyes in frustration. "I'm sorry, I didn't know this would happen. I'll go there right now and take her away. I'm sorry."
Yvette apologized repeatedly. Lassie had the ability to make her apologize over and over to the person she least wanted to bow to.
Yvette bit her lip, hung up the phone, quickly packed her books, and headed to North Airlines.
Just as she left the library, her phone rang again. It was an unfamiliar number.
Yvette, overwhelmed, answered the call, "Hello, who is this?"
The person on the other end said, "Are you a relative of Lassie?"
Yvette stopped in her tracks. "Yes, who is this?"
The other end replied, "Lassie is in the hospital undergoing emergency treatment. Please come immediately."
