Chapter 326 David May Never Stand Up Again

Even though he didn't really want to take her to David himself, since she had already eaten, he had to keep his word.

Albert walked behind Yvette, only to hear her say coldly, "If you don't want to take me, let the driver do it."

"I'll take you. I promised," Albert replied.

Yvette sneered. "I can take a cab, you know. No need for the act."

If it weren't for him, she wouldn't feel so guilty about David.

They both got into the car, and the silence was so thick you could cut it with a knife. The atmosphere was suffocating.

The car pulled into the hospital parking lot, and before it even stopped, Yvette was already unbuckling her seatbelt in a hurry.

Her eagerness was obvious, and Albert called out, "Yvette."

Her hand paused on the door handle, but she didn't look at him. She slammed the door and walked away.

She rushed to the ICU, seeing doctors and nurses bustling around, which only made her more anxious.

If David died, she'd never forgive herself.

Yvette quickened her pace and found Cheryl, her voice shaking. "Grandma? How's David?"

Cheryl looked much better. She grabbed Yvette's hand, excited. "He's being moved to a regular ward. The doctors are arranging it."

"That's great!" Yvette shared Cheryl's happiness.

Manuel and the doctors moved David to a VIP ward, and Yvette helped Cheryl to see him.

Before they even entered, they heard a chair crash to the floor.

Yvette and Cheryl exchanged worried looks and were about to go in when Manuel came out, looking serious.

Yvette asked, "What happened?"

Manuel said cautiously, "Mr. Valdemar has woken up."

"He's awake?" Yvette was thrilled. "Let's go see him."

"Mr. Valdemar is having a tantrum," Manuel said. "He heard he might never stand again, and he's pretty upset."

Yvette felt like a bomb had gone off in her head, leaving her stunned.

Cheryl swayed, and Yvette quickly supported her.

Yvette asked in disbelief, "Didn't the doctors say the worst was his internal bleeding?"

"The bleeding was stopped with surgery, and he's recovering well. But the injury to his lower back might have damaged his nerves," Manuel explained.

Yvette felt dizzy but forced herself to stay strong. She couldn't let Cheryl face this alone.

Lying in the hospital bed was David, the man who had always been there for her.

Such a gentle man might never stand again, and it was all because of her.

Albert could have taken it out on her, but now that things had turned out this way, how was she supposed to cope?

The sound of things being thrown around kept coming from the ward.

Cheryl and Yvette grew more and more alarmed.

Cheryl, with tears in her eyes, turned to Yvette and almost pleaded, "Yvette, help me, help David. Go talk to him. If he keeps getting so emotional, it won't be good for his recovery!"

Yvette's throat tightened. She nodded. "Don't worry, as long as his life isn't in danger."

Yvette walked into the ward, and a cup suddenly flew towards her.

At the same time, David's deep voice roared, "Get out!"

Yvette took a half step back, dodged, and locked eyes with David in the hospital bed. Their eyes met.David looked shocked. He turned his head away. "Why did you come in? Leave, I don't want to hurt you."

Seeing he had calmed down a bit, Yvette walked towards him.

Noticing the mess and ceramic shards on the floor, David opened his mouth to warn Yvette to be careful. But, aware of his own condition, he composed himself and said nothing.

Yvette sat down by David's bed. "David, you're finally awake."

David's voice was hoarse, and he turned his eyes away from her. "Yeah, you should go back."

His restrained appearance made Yvette feel even worse.

Yvette tried to adjust her emotions, raised her hand, and held his, avoiding the arm with the IV, encouraging him. "How can I go back? I want to stay by your side. You're so strong, you can overcome anything!"

A hint of bitterness flashed across David's face. "I'm not BoBo or CiCi."

"But just like them, you need protection too." Yvette looked at him sincerely. "The Valdemar Family has not only wealth but also connections. You have to believe that Grandma will do everything she can to find someone who can cure you. I was in such a serious condition back then, and you managed to save me. I believe you can do even better than me."

David's eyes were filled with complex emotions. He opened his mouth but still said almost the same thing, "You should go home and stay with BoBo and CiCi. You don't need to come see me."

Yvette replied, "They have someone to take care of them. I'll stay in the hospital with you."

"But I don't want you to see me like this." David's words carried a hint of pleading. "When I can stand up again and continue to protect you and the kids..."

David didn't continue because he didn't dare to think about what his fate would be if that day never came.

Yvette clearly realized this too, and a thin layer of mist covered her eyes.

If David really couldn't stand up again, would he still want to see her and the kids? Would he blame and resent her for the rest of his life?

How could she bear that?

Yvette looked at David intently. "Do you hate me, is that why you don't want to see me?"

"Of course not," David explained. "How could you think that?"

He just felt that he could no longer protect them.

"Then let me and the kids protect you," Yvette said firmly.

David was stunned. "Yvette."

Looking at Yvette, David felt a mix of emotions. He had never seen her like this before. Believing she was to blame for his and Albert's car accident, she felt guilty and responsible, which explained why she was being so nice to him.

David's expression changed several times, but in the end, he didn't explain.

He was already like this, what right did he have to consider others?

David slowly said, "Yvette, what I want has never been your charity."

Yvette persuaded, "This is what I should do. You protected us for so long, now it's our turn."

She frowned slightly, pretending to be angry. "Do you think that just because you're injured, I'll leave you and not care about you?"

David looked at Yvette steadily, not saying anything.

She slowly exhaled and gently persuaded, "Don't overthink about anything right now. I'll stay with you, and we'll get better together. You have to stay strong, okay?"

David's eyes moved slightly. He looked at her for a few seconds before asking, "Will you really stay by my side?"

Yvette was stunned for a moment, then answered, "Of course."
