Chapter 86 This is my wife, Yvette Orlando
The room was filled with tension; nobody wanted to be the first to speak and risk saying something stupid.
Finally, Albert's deep, smooth voice cut through the silence.
"This is my wife, Yvette Orlando."
Albert's voice was calm as he kept his eyes slightly lowered, looking at Yvette. His gaze wasn't exactly tender, but it was definitely different from the cold indifference he showed to others.
He was making it clear that he wanted to formally introduce Yvette to everyone.
Upon hearing Albert's words, everyone was surprised, and all eyes lingered on Yvette for a few extra seconds.
Soon, the atmosphere loosened up. As they greeted Albert, they also said hello to Yvette.
"Albert, come in and sit down. Yvette, can we call you Yvette?"
Yvette nodded and followed Albert inside.
Originally, the seat reserved for Albert was next to Violet. Realizing his mistake, Victor quickly took that seat to separate the two.
Albert glanced at Victor and then sat down next to him with Yvette.
As soon as they sat down, being the center of attention, they naturally couldn't avoid being questioned about their love story.
"Albert, congrats! It's been so long since we last met, and now you have a wife?"
"Just got married recently."
Everyone immediately started to cheer, "So happy for you! Congrats!"
"How did you two meet eacg other? Tell us!"
Albert had always disliked people prying into his personal life. The only reason everyone could ask now was that he had brought Yvette himself, and they were curious. They didn't really expect him to answer.
But to everyone's surprise, Albert answered seriously, "We met at a social event."
"A social event? I didn't think you'd be into those. That's really lucky."
"Did you get married right after you met?"
"No," Albert replied.
"No? Then how long have you been together?"
Albert answered,"Two years."
The whole room erupted with gossip and cheers. Yvette looked at Albert in astonishment.
Two years? He actually counted the time since they met.
During those two years, Yvette thought Albert had always seen her as just a sexual partner, and she had dutifully played that role.
Did he really think that during those two years, they were dating?
Yvette raised her delicate hand, picked up her coffee cup, gently blew away the foam, and took a silent sip.
"Albert, you should have invited everyone to your wedding. We're all waiting to give you wedding gifts!"
"Yeah!"
"Speaking of gifts, Albert, such a big happy occasion, you should share some gifts with everyone!"
Everyone was saying their blessings, urging Albert to give surprise gift boxes.
Albert paused, his thin lips pressed together, saying nothing. Just when everyone thought he might be unhappy, he picked up his phone.
"Stop making noise." He said with a hint of a smile.
Violet, who had been keeping her head down, didn't dare to look up, afraid her emotions would show.
Listening to Albert talk about how he and Yvette met, fell in love, and got married, Violet kept convincing herself that Albert had said he didn't love Yvette, and this was all just an act.
The next second, someone exclaimed in surprise.
"Oh my God, Albert, the gifts in this box are really wonderful!"
"No wonder you're newly married!"
"Your marriage is bound to last long!"
Albert's gift-giving act sealed everyone's best wishes for his and Yvette's marriage.
Violet couldn't hold back any longer. She abruptly stood up, kept her head down to avoid looking at anyone, and staggered out of the private room.
Albert's recent actions were baffling, especially tonight.
Even though their marriage was clearly on the rocks, he gladly accepted blessings as if he was determined to make it work.
Yvette didn't understand and didn't want to guess.
No matter what Albert did, Yvette's lips always carried a cold curve. She tried to stay indifferent and not harbor any wishful thinking.
The dinner continued, with everyone drinking and chatting. Yvette got up to go to the restroom.
The restroom stalls were fully occupied, so before Yvette came out, she overheard familiar voices from two women who had been at the table earlier.
"Look at Violet. She must have been dumped by Albert, right?"
"Definitely. Before Albert brought his wife, she was still pretending they hadn't broken up! Who would've thought she'd be exposed right away!"
The women spoke with a tone as if they were enjoying the drama.
"She's always been so fake, getting along with boys so well and making other girls look petty. If she didn't always treat people, no one would want to hang out with her."
"Not only fake but also loves to show off her relationship. Always saying this and that was bought by Albert. As soon as she wanted, Albert would obediently pay. And now? She still got dumped by Albert!"
The two women were so engrossed in their conversation that they burst into laughter.
Then, another voice joined in, "Is Albert really that rich? Buying everything?"
"Look at you asking that. You must be new here. Albert is the grandson of the CEO of North Airlines. Didn't your husband tell you? His family is genuinely wealthy!"
The woman was clearly shocked, "Then what's the background of his new wife? If Violet couldn't get him, how did she manage to marry him?"
"Background? She's poor, of course. Albert's taste is getting worse and worse."
"Maybe she's pregnant? Usually, that's the only way to marry into a wealthy family. Keep an eye on her belly later."
The gossip outside continued, but Yvette didn't have the patience to listen anymore. She raised her hand and opened the restroom stall door.
The women who had been chatting away instantly fell silent, each looking awkward, pretending to apply lipstick or dry their hands as if nothing had happened.
Yvette slowly walked to the sink, placed her phone aside, and turned on the faucet.
The sound of running water was gentle but particularly noticeable in the otherwise quiet restroom.
Yvette acted as if she hadn't heard their conversation, calmly washing her hands and tidying her appearance.
The woman who had been gossiping the loudest was the same one who had asked Albert who she was earlier.
She enthusiastically stood next to Yvette and hypocritically asked, "Yvette, I didn't expect you to be here. Why were you so quiet? Were you in there the whole time?"
Yvette pursed her lips, slowly turned off the faucet, and leisurely took out a paper towel.
She turned around, wiping her hands, and looked at the woman, speaking softly.
"Of course, I was in the restroom to use it. Or are you here to spew garbage from your mouth?"
