Chapter 243 Albert and Yvette Are a Perfect Match

It was just another typical afternoon, and right on cue, Yvette came down for lunch.

She figured it'd just be her, or maybe her and Cheryl, but to her surprise, James and Lisa were there too.

Yvette's face showed a flicker of surprise before she quickly composed herself.

She took the last seat, and Lisa, who usually didn't pay her much mind, waved at her with a smile.

"Yvette, there aren't many people here now. Come sit up front," Lisa said warmly, her smile inviting. "We're all family; it's better to sit closer while eating."

Yvette felt a bit hesitant but didn't let it show. She nodded and sat across from James and Lisa.

As the servants brought out the food, Yvette kept her head down and ate quietly, not planning to chat.

James glanced at the clock, then looked at Yvette, asking, "How have you been feeling these past few days?"

"What do you mean?" Yvette asked, confused.

Lisa chimed in with a smile, "James is asking if you're pregnant."

Yvette swallowed her food with some difficulty and shook her head, "No."

She took the birth control pills Albert gave her every day; there was no way she could be pregnant.

"It's okay, these things can't be rushed," Lisa sighed. "I haven't gotten pregnant all these years either."

James didn't seem interested in Lisa's lament about kids and casually mentioned, "Tonight, we have a family investment thing going on. Some elders are returning from abroad, and we're having a family dinner."

Lisa, not thrilled but unable to say more, added, "The Valdemar family will all be there, Yvette. You should come too."

"Me?" Yvette had never been into these events, and lately, she disliked them even more. She reluctantly asked, "Do I have to go?"

Lisa, still smiling but with a firmer tone, said, "You'd better attend. After all, it's Hayden's younger brother from when he was young, and everyone values him. Besides, Albert has a social engagement tonight and can't make it. One of you has to show up."

Seeing no way out, Yvette nodded and agreed.

Since joining the Valdemar family, Yvette never had to worry about her banquet attire, as a personal stylist was always arranged to cater to all her styling needs.

Tonight, Yvette wore a white long dress with delicate rhinestones on the shoulders. She looked elegant, catching many eyes as she entered the banquet hall.

Used to being alone, Yvette sat quietly in a corner, watching everyone have a good time, maintaining her inner calm. Occasionally, a relative would come over to say hi, but it was just polite small talk.

Yvette kept her head down, waiting for time to pass, when suddenly a shadow fell beside her, and someone sat down.

She looked up and unexpectedly met Albert's gaze.

Startled, Yvette asked, "Didn't you say you weren't coming?"

Albert's chest rose and fell slightly, but he didn't bother explaining.

He looked away, thinking about how many people had mistaken him for David on his way over.

Only Yvette could tell them apart at a glance, like she had some kind of superpower.

Just then, James and Lisa brought Stanley Valdemar and a few other relatives over, introducing Albert and his wife Yvette to Stanley, who they hadn't seen in ages.

Stanley, a stern-looking guy, just nodded and walked off.

Instead, a few relatives who knew them started teasing with a smile, "Albert and Yvette are looking more and more alike. They make such a perfect couple."

Another chimed in, "I think so too. How do they look more and more alike?"

"Really?" Lisa leaned in to get a closer look and said, "I don't see it!"

"Come on, what's your take?" a relative quipped. "I heard that tons of smooching can sync up your germs, making you mirror each other more and more!"

Yvette felt a bit embarrassed. She knew Albert didn't like being teased, especially given their rocky relationship. She cautiously glanced at Albert, worried he might get upset and lose his cool in public.

At that moment, David started chatting with the relative who had teased Yvette.

The relative soon forgot about teasing her.

Yvette cast a grateful glance at David, who always seemed to sense when she was in a tough spot.

Receiving David's warm gaze, Yvette smiled, but she caught a glimpse of Albert's cold expression out of the corner of her eye.

Yvette's throat tightened. It seemed he really minded being teased about being a good match with her.

Her smile froze, and she quickly looked down.

Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, Yvette finally let out a long sigh.

She kept replaying Albert's annoyed expression in her mind, feeling a bit down.

Yvette looked at her slightly drooping lips in the mirror, momentarily forgetting how to put on her best smile.

After forcing a few smiles at the mirror, Yvette finally gave up and turned to leave the bathroom.

Returning to the entrance of the banquet hall, Yvette was about to push the door open when a stranger entered, and the decor inside told her it wasn't the right place.

Yvette was puzzled. Then she turned around and realized that all the banquet hall doors looked the same, and she had forgotten the name of their hall.

Yvette took a few steps back, nervously biting her lower lip, carefully checking each door.

At the end of the corridor, she turned her head and saw Albert standing there.

Albert had his head down. Yvette, looking at his profile from a distance, instinctively stopped. His high nose bridge made his already smooth facial lines even more perfect, causing the nervous Yvette to momentarily lose focus.

Albert suddenly looked up, and their eyes met in the air.

Yvette almost by instinct, took two steps forward, raised her face, and tilted her head slightly, asking, "Were you waiting for me?"

Albert's expression showed a hint of discomfort. Before he could answer, Yvette said, "Thank you."

Albert looked away, blinking more frequently. His voice was cold, his thin lips parting slightly, "I was worried you might walk into the wrong hall and embarrass me."
