Chapter 287 Did You See Albert?

Picking up Lester and Christina from the airport, Yvette suddenly remembered she was in the middle of a call with David.

She pulled out her phone and saw there was no call record.

Lester piped up, "Mommy, I answered Daddy's call. He said the driver is in the G section of the parking lot and sent the license plate number to your Facebook. Once you're done, take me and CiCi over there, and the driver will take us to the hotel."

"Okay." Yvette patted Lester's head, feeling a wave of guilt. "I'm sorry, Mommy won't leave you in such crowded places again. It's really not safe. It won't happen again." Yvette assured, feeling a lingering fear and blaming herself for being careless and impulsive.

Christina blinked at Yvette and asked curiously, "Mommy, you saw the uncle. Tell us, who was right, me or BoBo?"

Yvette was momentarily stunned, and Albert's face flashed before her eyes.

Lester protested, "Daddy is Daddy, and he is he. It's not the same!"

Christina giggled. "BoBo is lying. BoBo also mistook the uncle for Daddy at first and even called him Daddy! Mommy, did you make a mistake?"

Yvette thought, 'Even though Albert and David looked exactly the same, I could tell at a glance that it wasn't David.'

A flash of doubt crossed her mind, and Yvette shook her head. "How could I mistake my husband?"

"Right." Christina nodded. "Then it was me and BoBo who were wrong. We shouldn't mistake Daddy!"

Yvette looked down and saw Lester looking sullen. She raised her hand to pat his head. "It's okay. He does look exactly like your Daddy, so it's understandable to make a mistake."

Yvette thought for a moment. "He's your Daddy's brother. Be polite and call him uncle when you see him."

"Okay, Mommy." Lester leaned against Yvette, his expression finally softening a bit.

Yvette took the two kids to the car David had arranged.

The driver had been waiting for a while, and Yvette apologized, "Sorry, there was a bit of a delay. Thanks for waiting."

"No problem." The driver asked, "Where to?"

"The chain hotel near the Luken headquarters of the Valdemar Group, please."

"Chain hotel?" the driver asked. "Mr. Valdemar said you could stay at the house, and there would be staff to take care of you and the kids."

After a moment's thought, Yvette responded, "The hotel is nearer to the office. We'll shift to the house once David is back."

"The house isn't too far from the office either. If you need a ride, I'm here anytime. It's no hassle."

Sensing something amiss, Yvette grew more wary. "Thanks, but walking to the office is fine for us."

Sure enough, as soon as Yvette finished speaking, the driver said, "It takes five minutes to walk. Just call me if you need to go anywhere. It's my duty as a driver."

Indeed, the driver arranged by David was not just for convenience but to keep track of their whereabouts.

Yvette said no more, gave a light response, and looked out the window.

David stood at the floor-to-ceiling window of the Valdemar Group's Las Vegas branch, frowning as he watched the bustling crowd below.

"Mr. Valdemar, the driver reported that your wife insists on staying at the hotel and doesn't want him to follow."

David slowly turned around, his intense gaze locking onto Virgil Newman. His eyes were sharp and piercing.

Virgil's throat tightened; he rarely saw David look so intimidating. He lowered his head and listened silently to David's instructions.

To his surprise, David didn't lose his temper but said calmly, "If she doesn't want the driver to follow, can't we find someone else to keep an eye on her?"

"I understand."

David frowned. "How's the schedule I asked you to organize?"

"For the next couple of weeks, it's a real challenge to make it back to Luken," Virgil mumbled, avoiding eye contact with David. "With issues on two back-to-back projects, headquarters is on edge, and your personal presence is needed in many areas."

Annoyance swelling within him, David waved his hand dismissively. "You can go now."

"Okay."

Virgil left quietly, closing the office door behind him.

David's eyes darkened. Ever since Yvette's call from Las Vegas, he hadn't been able to calm down.

Luken was a perilous place for Yvette.

There, her true identity could be exposed at any moment, and her buried memories might resurface.

David's Adam's apple moved slightly as he exhaled slowly.

Finally, he couldn't resist and called Yvette.

David's lips curved into a smile, and his voice softened from its usual coldness. "Jessica, have you and BoBo and CiCi settled in safely?"

Yvette's voice came from the other end, calm and emotionless. "We're settled in the hotel. Don't worry, even though it's a chain hotel, the facilities are quite good."

"That's good," David said gently. "If you need anything, just let me know."

"David." Yvette's voice was clear. "Can I ask you a question?"

Yvette's words made David's heart tremble, and a sense of foreboding rose within him. He pressed his lips together, suppressing his unease. "Of course."

Yvette asked, "Why have you never told me that you and Albert are twins?"

Yvette's cold and questioning voice came through the international call, mixed with the sound of the electric current, reaching David's ears and leaving him somewhat shocked.

David's eyes flickered with intense emotion, and his expression became extremely grim. The gentle smile he wore like a mask was instantly torn away.

David clenched his fists, and cold sweat broke out on his back.

"You met Albert?"

As soon as David spoke, he realized his throat felt blocked, and breathing brought sharp pain to his chest.

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line. After a while, Yvette said, "Yes."

David's throat tightened as he tried to reassure both Yvette and himself. "I don't have a great relationship with my family, so there's not much to talk about."

Yvette replied, "I see."

David's eyes were bloodshot and dry. He slowly closed his eyes and raised a trembling hand to press against his brow. "If you want to know about the family, I'll tell you slowly. You and the kids stay safe. I need to get back to work."

"Wait." Yvette's voice came through, hesitant. "Albert suddenly called me Yvette."

David was instantly flustered but tried to remain calm. "What?"

"Yvette, who is that?"
