Chapter 291 You Are Yvette, My Wife!
Yvette's slap left Albert in shock, his hand instinctively going to his cheek. She had never hit him before, no matter how mad she got.
His Adam's apple bobbed, and a flash of anger lit up his deep eyes.
Clearly, the Jessica in front of him was Yvette, so why was she pretending not to know him and even hitting him?
There couldn't possibly be a person named Jessica in this world!
His patience finally ran out. His breath deepened, and his jaw clenched.
Albert's eyes turned cold, and he pressed his slightly numb cheek with his tongue. "Yvette."
Seeing the certainty in Albert's eyes when he called her, Yvette was visibly stunned. Her hands trembled as she buttoned up her shirt.
Albert's voice was low and rich. "What exactly are you and David trying to do?"
He spoke each word clearly, "No matter how much you deny it, you are Yvette, my wife!"
Yvette looked at the determination and anger in Albert's eyes and took a deep breath to calm herself down.
Yvette raised her voice and denied again, "I told you, my name is Jessica, and I am David's wife! Do you understand, Albert?"
Yvette tightly clutched the collar of her shirt. "I know I look a lot like Yvette, but I'm really not her! What will it take for you to believe me?"
Albert's gaze was sharp, but he couldn't bear to scare her further. He looked steadily at Yvette. "The scar on your chest, you got it when you fell in the countryside. If you unbutton your shirt, you'll see."
After Albert spoke, Yvette breathed a sigh of relief. She chuckled dryly. "I know my body. No scar there. I ain't your wife, that's for sure!"
Albert was about to speak again, but Yvette had already impatiently retreated to the door. "Albert, I'm your brother's wife. I expect you to watch your actions and show me some respect. Don't do this again."
With that, Yvette opened the door of the private room, and the light from the hallway instantly broke the darkness.
As she stepped out of the room, Albert's deep voice came from behind.
"I will prove it. Nowhere to run." The calm tone held a bone-chilling certainty.
David rushed onto the plane, abandoning his luggage. He couldn't stay in Las Vegas another moment; he had to get back to Luken to be with Yvette and their two children.
Sitting in business class, David felt uneasy. He called the person monitoring Yvette's movements in Luken and asked in a low voice, "Any unusual situations?"
The person on the other end of the line replied cautiously, "Albert made a point to find Jessica. Since it was work-related, we couldn't openly intervene. We were brainstorming ways to throw a wrench in it when Jessica stormed out. The driver didn't have any updates, so Jessica likely didn't spill anything to him."
David's Adam's apple bobbed, his face still impatient, and his eyes filled with unease. "Watch her closely. If Albert shows up again, hit me up right away. I'll figure out how to get Jessica out of that mess."
"Understood."
David slammed the phone shut and closed his eyes to relax, but his breaths kept coming fast, refusing to slow down.
As long as Yvette didn't regain her memory, she was safe. Previously, to escape, she had jumped off a bridge into a raging river and was rescued by David.
When David pulled Yvette from the river, she had not only hit her head and lost consciousness, but she was also covered in injuries. The impact and friction from the sand and rocks had caused multiple abrasions and bruises on her body.
David had brought in top doctors and employed cutting-edge techniques and medications to restore her skin to its original state, erasing all her distinctive features.
It wasn't intentional, but it worked out for him.
Thinking of this, David slowly exhaled. Even God was helping him; he shouldn't panic.
Just as the plane began to taxi, David suddenly opened his eyes and called Virgil.
"There's a family in Luken, Lassie, and her husband Wayne, along with Zora and Kyle. Find a way to give them a raffle ticket for an all-expenses-paid luxury trip for two weeks."
Virgil was stunned. "What?"
David said, "Just do it."
As soon as he finished speaking, the flight attendant came over to remind him to switch his phone to airplane mode.
David hung up the phone and slowly exhaled.
He had to get Yvette's family out of Luken before Albert forced a DNA test and exposed everything. With just two weeks, he needed to take Yvette back to Stellaria.
Yvette grabbed her bag, quickly said goodbye to Dominic, and left. She wasn't in the mood to discuss work anymore.
Back in the car, Lester and Christina were asleep in the back seat, cuddled together. Seeing the two children looking uncomfortable in their sleep, Yvette felt a pang of guilt.
The sound of the car door closing woke Lester. He looked at Yvette with sleepy eyes. "Mommy."
"Good boy, Mommy's back." She patted the heads of the two children. "It's okay, go back to sleep."
Lester closed his eyes and fell asleep again. Yvette held the two children, and her anxious heart finally calmed down a bit.
Back at the hotel, after settling the two children, Yvette took her change of clothes and went into the bathroom.
Looking at her face in the mirror, Yvette's thoughts returned to the moment when Albert suddenly approached her in the afternoon. Her face instantly turned red, and her heart raced.
She must have been too angry at Albert's behavior. In the years she could remember, even David had never done such a thing to her. How could Albert?
Yvette touched her face, thinking of the intense emotions in Albert's eyes, and for a moment, she felt a bit sorry for him.
Perhaps her resemblance to Yvette was too strong. Missing his wife, he found himself unable to restrain his emotions upon seeing her.
Yvette hoped the slap would make him think twice. She clenched her palm, the tingling sensation still lingering.
Carefully unbuttoning her shirt, Yvette looked in the mirror and clearly saw the smooth skin on her chest.
There was indeed no scar as Albert had mentioned.
Yvette instinctively placed her palm on her chest, feeling a faint heat.
The scar on her chest?
Yvette showed a puzzled expression.
Looking at the smooth skin, Yvette couldn't shake the feeling that the scar Albert mentioned seemed vaguely familiar.
What was happening to her?
