Chapter 438 Because My Wife Is a Surgeon

Clifford placed Niamh into the bounce house, fiddling with the headband Yvette had given him.

He gently stroked the soft fabric of the headband, his mind replaying the image of her slightly bright eyes up close.

She looked so young and beautiful; how could she be the mother of two children?

Clifford couldn't hide the disappointment in his eyes. Her husband must protect her very well, he thought.

Just then, his phone rang. Clifford pulled it out and saw an unfamiliar local number.

He didn't think much of it and answered, "Hello, who is this?"

"Clifford, it's me."

Clifford's thick eyebrows furrowed instantly. "Ingrid?"

"Yeah, it's me! I can't believe you recognized my voice right away!" Ingrid's voice was filled with surprise. "I just got back from Eldoria. When can we meet up?"

"There's no need," Clifford's voice turned cold. "Whatever you need to say, say it over the phone."

"I just miss you a little," Ingrid's voice was sickly sweet. She pouted, "How can I say it over the phone when you've blocked me on all social media and my old number? I had to get a new number just to reach you!"

Clifford suppressed his discomfort. "If you know that, why bother contacting me again?"

"If a woman stops contacting the man she loves, it's either because she's completely over him or completely heartbroken..."

Always the gentleman, Clifford finally lost his patience and hung up, immediately adding the number to his block list.

He had never met a woman as annoying as Ingrid.

As his eyes fell on the headband in his hand, Clifford's expression softened slightly, and he could only smile wryly.

It seemed he was just unlucky and had come too late.

On the other end of the line, the call abruptly ended, leaving only the "beep beep beep" sound.

Ingrid's face changed, but feeling the curious gazes of her friends, she pretended the call was still ongoing and continued speaking to the mechanical tone, "Isn't your birthday coming up? I wanted to find out what you like."

"Anything is fine? It seems like you'll like anything I give you." Ingrid continued, "Alright then. See you in a few days, Clifford!"

Ingrid hung up the phone, looking smug as she turned to her friends. "Clifford said he likes any gift I give him."

"Really?" one woman asked. "Didn't you say he blocked you on everything?"

"Yes, he did when I went to Eldoria," Ingrid smiled, pressing her lips together. "He was probably mad that I was leaving and afraid I'd never come back to Luken."

"Oh, I see," the women exchanged glances, stifling their laughter. "So, you think you can win Clifford over?"

Ingrid replied confidently, "Of course! A man with his background and looks has the best taste. His family's status means he can only marry someone like me, understand?"

She glanced at the time and hurriedly stood up. "I need to go pick out a gift for him. See you next time, ladies!"

As Ingrid rushed out of the room, the women who had been holding back their laughter finally burst out.

The woman who had teased Ingrid earlier laughed so hard she was nearly in tears. "Oh my, Ingrid is hilarious. I know Clifford, and he can't stand her. He's always avoiding her."

"I know, I've seen him turn her down so many times. She's living in a fantasy if she thinks she can win him over!"

As they laughed, the door suddenly swung open again.

Ingrid glared at them, walked back in to grab her forgotten phone, and said defiantly, "Just wait and see. Clifford's birthday party is coming up. The Hayes family has invited a lot of socialites, and I'm on the list. Watch, I'll win him over at his birthday party!"

The women exchanged looks but didn't laugh as loudly. "Alright, we'll wait and see you win him over."

In an elegant private room, Albert and Marcus Wallace sat across from each other.

The room's decor was simple yet sophisticated, with intricate wood carvings and silk curtains exuding a sense of calm and elegance.

Albert wore a dark business suit, his collar impeccably neat.

His facial features were sharp, and his deep eyes conveyed steadiness. His demeanor was composed and confident.

Even Marcus, meeting him for the first time, couldn't help but admire the young CEO.

Marcus spoke methodically about his vision for the new hospital, tapping his fingers on the table to emphasize his points.

"Mr. Valdemar, I know the Valdemar Group is financially strong, but since you're new to the medical field, you'll need support from professionals like us."

"Of course," Albert listened intently, nodding in agreement. "Your reputation and expertise are exactly what the Valdemar Group values. Otherwise, I wouldn't have turned down so many domestic and international experts to seek you out."

Marcus smiled, pleased by Albert's words.

He glanced out the window at the picturesque scenery, clearly chosen by Albert.

Albert poured tea for Marcus. "Our investment in research projects and the medical team is nearly complete. You've seen the project plan and team composition. I believe this level of expertise is rare in the country, and I trust you're willing to collaborate."

Marcus smiled knowingly. "I have a small team and know many doctors, but it's not enough. We'll need to recruit more top-notch doctors."

Albert's lips curled slightly. He knew that if Marcus was talking about recruitment without even hearing about the salary, it meant he was impressed with the team, giving Albert more confidence in the project.

Marcus had always wanted to establish a true "surgical center." The hospital he previously worked at, located near a highway exit, frequently treated trauma patients, and the shortage of surgeons was a constant issue. The young CEO's willingness to invest in a less profitable surgical center intrigued him.

"Mr. Valdemar, why did you suddenly decide to invest in a hospital?" Marcus quickly added, "As far as I know, the Valdemar Group is a leader in the aerospace industry."

Albert smiled, his slender, strong fingers naturally interlaced. "To be honest, my understanding of hospitals is limited to our company's medical assessment center."

"Then why..."

Albert looked ahead, his eyes softening. "Because my wife is a surgeon."
