Chapter 635 David Is About to Take Action
Yvette stared at Albert in surprise, her eyes filled with doubt and confusion.
She could hardly believe her ears. Vincent had told her that Albert had been swamped with work lately, with countless mandatory meetings to attend.
How could he suddenly want to take them on a trip? To the beach, no less?
"Aren't you busy?" Yvette asked softly, trying to mask her astonishment.
She paused, suddenly remembering something, and turned to BoBo and CiCi. "Sweethearts, did you ask your father to take you? Didn't I tell you that Daddy's too busy to take us anywhere?"
"I was the one who asked them." Albert smiled warmly at Yvette, his gaze tender yet resolute. "They're always in school. Now that they finally have a break, they deserve some fun."
"But—"
Yvette started to protest, but Albert cut her off. "We're overdue for a family vacation, don't you think?"
After spending more time talking with BoBo and CiCi, Albert had gradually pieced together their life in Eldoria with Yvette.
David's work in Eldoria hadn't been demanding—he'd kept regular hours and spent his free time taking them out. Though Albert knew BoBo and CiCi were his children, the thought that David had spent more time with them, had more opportunities to bond with them, still gnawed at him.
His own work kept him busy, and he hadn't known the children for very long. They'd never even taken a family trip together.
This vacation was his deliberate attempt to make up for that gap. He wanted to give Yvette and the children an unforgettable holiday.
Since BoBo and CiCi had already chosen their destination, he couldn't let them down as their father.
"I've never taken you all on vacation before. I thought we could use some time together to unwind." Albert explained patiently. "BoBo and CiCi said they want us to enjoy the sun and sand at the beach."
"Yes, Mommy! We really want to go to the beach with you and Daddy!" BoBo and CiCi looked at Yvette expectantly. "Daddy already said we can go. Please say yes!"
Yvette's eyes misted over, warmth flooding her chest like a gentle current.
How could she not long for a family trip with all four of them?
Yvette looked at Albert hesitantly. "But your work..."
"Don't worry, I'll handle it." Albert's expression grew serious. "My work won't interfere with the trip, and I'll do my best not to let the trip interfere with my work."
Though Albert had said "do my best," Yvette knew how difficult that would be.
But since Albert had already agreed and everything was arranged, refusing now would only hurt him and the children.
Looking at Albert's smile, Yvette's worries melted away.
She could see that Albert had prepared thoroughly.
Yvette nodded. "Alright then. Let's look forward to this wonderful trip."
"Yay!" The children jumped up and spun in circles with excitement.
Amid their cheers, Yvette's expression softened. She looked at Albert, her eyes brimming with deep gratitude.
Her eyes sparkled like stars in the night sky, glowing with a quiet but steady light that seemed to speak of emotions beyond words.
Albert seemed to sense her gaze and looked up to meet her eyes.
Their gazes locked, and time seemed to stand still.
Stepping out of the bar, the cool night breeze brushed against David's face, sobering him slightly.
Moonlight spilled across the damp streets, casting shadows that mirrored the darkness in his expression.
David replayed Violet's words, her threatening tone making his face grow even colder.
David looked up, staring into the distance—a vague, bottomless void that seemed to swallow his thoughts.
The streetlights flickered before him, as if mocking him. David closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm within.
But the unease continued to cling to him like a shadow.
Violet was right. If Yvette truly recovered, he would lose his chance to challenge Albert.
Violet would no longer want to work with him, and he'd never be able to turn the tide.
David had always excelled at lying low and biding his time. How could he let Violet's temporary secrecy ruin everything?
David took a deep breath, telling himself that agreeing to restart their engagement was the right choice.
Just then, his phone rang, jarring in the silent night.
David pulled out his phone and glanced at the screen—James was calling.
Why would James call this late?
David frowned, hesitated for a moment, then answered, "Dad."
His voice was low and rough with the remnants of alcohol.
James, completely oblivious to David's mood, said, "David, Albert has put all his current projects on hold. He's delegating what he can and rescheduling meetings wherever possible."
James sounded somewhat serious, and David asked with confusion, "Putting work on hold? What happened?"
"Nothing happened. Word is he just wants to take his wife and kids on vacation." James's voice carried barely contained excitement. "Since he's leaving his work behind and getting out of Luken, this is our chance!"
The night street was quiet and deserted, with only a few cars and pedestrians passing through.
David melted into the darkness, his shadow stretching long under the streetlights.
Listening to James, David fell into deep thought.
During this delicate balance of power, he was actually taking Yvette and the children on vacation.
Was he truly that bold, dismissing David as no threat? Or did he love Yvette so deeply that he'd risk being stabbed in the back just to take them away?
David took a deep breath, the alcohol's haze lifting further from his mind.
"Got it." David asked cautiously, "What's your plan?"
"You can start making your move." James lowered his voice. "I'm working on the project manager situation. You need to convince Bishop."
David's eyes narrowed. "Understood."
