Chapter 402 Mr. Valdemar, This Woman Wants to Harm You
David's eyes flashed with a hint of gloom, but it quickly disappeared.
Yvette's use of the word "husband" was like a sharp blade that pierced David.
Even when Yvette had amnesia, she never called him "husband."
The only time she acknowledged his identity was when she talked to others about him, referring to him as her "husband" and saying he was BoBo and CiCi's father.
"Yvette, I know you hate me for deceiving you, but I hope you won't deliberately say things to hurt me." David curled his lips, a bitter expression on his face. "This time, I really came back in a hurry for you and the kids' sake."
Yvette let out a cold laugh.
She didn't expect David to bring up the kids' identity issue again. After their last unpleasant parting, he acted as if he had lost his memory and never mentioned it.
David's repeated deceptions made it impossible for Yvette to face him properly.
"David, do you think I would be fooled by you again? You don't need to put on an act in front of me." Yvette tightened her grip on the bag, shifted her body, and tried to walk past David to leave.
But David moved with her steps, blocking her way.
Yvette looked up, warily staring at David. "What do you want?"
"Don't be so tense." David raised his hands, signaling Yvette to calm down. "I just want to talk to you alone. Last time, the kids were there, and it wasn't convenient to talk. You didn't give me a chance to talk. So since we coincidentally met today, let's talk, Yvette."
Yvette found it laughable. "Last time, you used the excuse of solving the kids' identity issue to trick me and the kids out. And this time? Do you really think I would believe it was just a coincidence?"
David wasn't surprised by her reaction but still felt a bit hurt.
He explained, "I didn't want to trick you out. I just wanted to catch up with the kids. This is the first time since they were born that we've been apart for so long. Not only do I miss them, but they must miss me too!"
"So what? They have to accept that you are no longer their 'daddy.' There's no need to see you again!" Yvette clenched her fists. "My kids are well-behaved and sensible. They will understand my actions."
David said, "Yvette, don't act on impulse. The banquet is only a few days away, and the kids' identity change is very important."
"Do you think I would trust you again?" Yvette let out a cold laugh.
David noticed their conversation had attracted onlookers, with many people pointing and whispering. Frowning, he stubbornly faced Yvette. "Let's talk somewhere else. There are too many people here, and I don't think you want them to hear this. Come on, let's go to my car." He reached out to pull her, trying to lead her out of the mall.
But when Yvette heard that David wanted to take her to his car, her back tensed, and her whole body resisted. "I have nothing to talk to you about!"
Yvette took a half step back, trying to avoid David's approach.
Seeing this, David's eyes turned cold. He spread his arms, trying to embrace her.
Yvette instinctively struggled, pushing him hard. "Don't touch me!"
David staggered, trying to maintain his balance, but he still wobbled and almost fell to the ground.
Yvette was stunned. Before she could react, a group of bodyguards rushed towards them.
These men, all over 6 feet 1 inch tall and with solid muscles, were like immovable mountains. They had a clear division of labor; some supported David, while others grabbed Yvette.
The bodyguards' eyes were firm and cold, sending chills down one's spine.
Yvette's face showed panic, and the things she was holding fell to the ground.
She tried to break free from the bodyguards' iron grip, but her struggle was in vain.
The bodyguards held her tightly, giving Yvette no chance to escape.
"Let go of me!" Yvette shouted angrily.
The two bodyguards restraining Yvette remained silent, their eyes indifferent, as if they hadn't heard her.
At this moment, David's low voice came. "Let go!"
The bodyguards looked at each other but didn't loosen their grip. They nodded respectfully. "Mr. Valdemar, this woman wants to hurt you!"
"I said, let go!" David's eyes were sharp, and his tone was fierce. "She is not the one you need to guard against."
Only then did the bodyguards hesitate and slowly release their grip.
Yvette, now free, felt a tightness in her throat. She noticed that most of David's weight seemed to be supported by the bodyguard.
Yvette then remembered that David's leg hadn't fully healed.
Despite his successful surgery and smooth rehabilitation, his injury was severe. It was already remarkable that he could stand up so quickly.
The last time they met, he still walked with a noticeable limp, as if he could lose his balance at any moment.
Yvette frowned. "I told you not to touch me!"
Yvette was still shaken. She panted, her chest heaving, and with a cold face, she picked up the gifts for the kids and Albert from the ground and turned to leave.
"Yvette!" David's deep voice came from behind. "Are you really unwilling to say even one more word to me?"
"Yes," Yvette said without hesitation and walked away.
Watching Yvette's back, David pulled the corners of his mouth into a bitter smile.
He always thought Yvette was a very soft-hearted woman; otherwise, she wouldn't have tolerated Albert's harm repeatedly.
She stayed by Albert's side for so long, being hurt by him for so long, yet she always managed to forgive him.
But now, David realized that her softness was always reserved for Albert.
When it came to him, Yvette was always heartless.
In the countryside, no matter where they played, as long as Albert said a word, whether it was an invitation or a provocation, Yvette would leave him and follow Albert.
Later, no matter how he stayed by her side, healed her, and helped her, she never looked at him more than once.
David had almost given everything for her, even willing to give up everything in the Valdemar Family, taking her to Eldoria, staying in that small branch office, and not coming out to share the Valdemar Family's assets.
But when she remembered everything, including Albert's harm to her, she was still willing to return to Albert's side.
What did he, David, count for?
All his deceptions were just to win her over. Was he wrong?
