Chapter 254 They Are Expecting a New Baby
The business trip wrapped up half a day early, but Albert was still swamped with work on his way back.
The highway from the airport to the city was a bit jammed. Vincent checked the time and asked, "Heading home, Mr. Valdemar? If not, we can..."
"Home," Albert replied without even looking up.
That straight-up answer made the driver and Vincent exchange a knowing glance.
Back at the house, Albert unbuttoned his collar while subtly scanning the room.
The servant chimed in, "Mrs. Valdemar's not in. She left this morning and didn't anticipate your early return."
Albert's lips tightened, showing no emotion, and he said coolly, "I didn't ask."
Feeling she had erred, the servant promptly gathered Albert's belongings and exited without further ado.
Albert plopped down on the sofa for a bit. He glanced at his watch. It was getting late.
Yvette still hadn't come back. He closed his eyes slightly, clearly annoyed.
Dusting off his clothes, he got up and headed upstairs.
There was a video conference later that evening. Albert went to the study, sorted out the materials he needed, and realized an important document was still in his suitcase. He got up and went back to the bedroom.
The Valdemar family's servants were top-notch, always keeping the rooms spotless, with similar items grouped together. Albert's suitcase was placed next to Yvette's.
When Albert picked up his suitcase, he accidentally knocked over Yvette's.
Probably because she often needed to grab things, Yvette's suitcase wasn't properly closed. In an instant, all her stuff spilled out.
Seeing Yvette's frequently worn clothes scattered on the floor, Albert realized she had never unpacked her things.
Despite having a large walk-in closet in their room for hanging her clothes, she chose to keep her belongings in the suitcase, as if she were prepared to depart at a moment's notice.
This place was never really Albert's home, nor Yvette's.
She must have felt super uncomfortable and out of place.
Albert reached out and gently touched Yvette's suitcase, his fingers lightly brushing a knitted dress she had worn just a few days ago.
Though his expression stayed the same, a strange look flashed in his deep eyes.
Albert pressed his lips together, collected his thoughts, and began to pack Yvette's suitcase.
As he packed the clothes, he found a stack of printed papers at the bottom.
As he picked them up to organize, he noticed the text on the papers—an agreement signed by Yvette and James.
His hand paused, recalling the argument he had overheard between them, which was about this agreement.
Albert's deep eyes grew colder. He quickly scanned the entire agreement, his grip tightening, and his expression darkening.
It was afternoon, and despite the room being filled with sunlight, it couldn't dispel the chill around Albert.
He wasn't even dead yet, and Yvette had already signed an agreement with James regarding the division of his assets.
He hadn't expected her to be so calculating, already planning to legally take half of the Valdemar Group's assets from him.
He had taken it for granted that Yvette was simple-minded, underestimating her. How could a woman who worked hard to get into medical school and successfully became a surgeon be simple-minded?
Thinking of Yvette's recent attempts to please him, Albert's cold, aloof eyes narrowed slightly, emitting a dangerous light.
Even though Albert had always known Yvette was with him for the money, he hadn't expected her to be so ruthless and greedy.
As Albert gradually calmed down, he slowly smoothed out the crumpled agreement in his hand, his cold eyes turning even more sinister.
Albert stood up, closed Yvette's suitcase with a calm confidence, and took the agreement with him.
Meanwhile, at the crowded hospital.
Yvette stood up from her chair and tossed the cotton swab into the trash can.
The waiting time wasn't too bad because Yvette already had a hunch about the results.
Sure enough, the test results showed her HCG levels had shot up to nearly five digits. She was pregnant.
Yvette thought for a moment and decided to get an ultrasound to see the baby.
After a long wait, it was finally Yvette's turn.
Hearing the mechanical female voice call "Yvette," her previously calm demeanor turned anxious.
Yvette handed her test results to the doctor and lay down on the examination bed.
The doctor adjusted the machine and said, "It's still too small within six weeks. You might not see anything."
"I know," Yvette blinked, saying expectantly, "If we can see it, great. If not, I'll come back next week."
The doctor applied medical coupling gel to Yvette's abdomen and picked up the probe to start the examination. "I'll try my best to find it for you."
"Thank you, doctor."
Yvette bit her lower lip nervously, not daring to breathe too heavily, quietly waiting, afraid of disturbing the doctor.
The doctor moved the probe while carefully watching the screen. Finally, the doctor called out softly.
"I see it," the doctor said, "It's developing well. At this stage, you can already see it. Here, take a look."
The doctor turned the screen so Yvette could see it from the bed.
Yvette swallowed, her hands clenched into fists, gripping her clothes tightly. She turned her head slightly to look at the screen and saw the fetus lying in her belly, suddenly feeling like crying.
It felt like the child she had previously lost had really come back.
Yvette's eyes welled up, and she sniffed and said, "I see it, thank you."
Her voice carried undisguised excitement, and the doctor, seemingly infected by it, smiled and said, "Congratulations."
"Thank you."
With the test results in hand, Yvette blinked and looked at them several times.
Even though it was the expected result, Yvette still found it hard to believe.
She looked at the ultrasound image of the baby, unable to stop the corners of her mouth from lifting.
Just then, Yvette answered the phone, which was the Valdemar family's servant calling.
"Mrs. Valdemar, Mr. Valdemar's back," the servant whispered. "He seemed a bit off when he didn't find you. Probably misses you after not seeing you for a while."
Sitting in the chair, Yvette watched the people coming and going in the hospital, her eyes sparkling.
"I understand," Yvette's eyes curved slightly. "I'll be back soon."
Hanging up the phone, Yvette folded the test results and put them in her bag.
She tightly clutched her bag under her arm and got up to go home.
Walking the few steps out of the hospital, Yvette couldn't contain her excitement and jogged back to the car.
"Let's go, Milton. We're going home."
"Will do."
Yvette smiled. She hurried home, eager to tell Albert that they were having another child.
