Chapter 569 You've Been Ignoring Me

After returning from the hospital, Yvette took her medication and fell into a deep sleep.

The sedative had a profound calming effect, allowing her to sleep so soundly that she didn't even dream. She lay in bed with her eyes closed, breathing steadily and rhythmically, her body rising and falling with each breath.

Albert slipped into the room like a shadow, his footsteps barely audible against the hardwood floor. He stood beside the bed, studying Yvette's peaceful face in the silvery moonlight that streamed through the half-open window, casting ethereal shadows across her delicate features.

Her skin looked porcelain-smooth in the pale light, and her hair cascaded over the pillow like dark silk, gently brushing against her cheek as if smoothing away any lingering worries from her dreams.

With the reverence of someone handling priceless porcelain, he reached out to stroke her hair. Time seemed suspended in that tender moment.

Yvette's eyes flew open, catching Albert completely off guard. Their gazes locked for a split second before he instinctively glanced away.

"Getting shy now?" Yvette teased, her voice low and challenging, making something flicker in Albert's eyes.

Albert didn't bother to hide the heat in his gaze this time. He leaned in, eyes fixed on her, closing the distance between them. Only when he saw a hint of nervousness flash across her face did he allow himself a slow, knowing smile. "What's wrong? Feeling nervous?"

Yvette tried to sound unfazed, but her body betrayed her as she shrank back ever so slightly. "Why would I be? It's not like you're actually going to do anything."

Albert arched an eyebrow, voice dropping to a velvet murmur. "You sure about that?"

Yvette's cheeks flushed. She quickly sat up and flicked on the bedside lamp, letting the warm light spill across the room. "Alright, enough. Why did you come home so late, anyway?"

Albert straightened, arching an eyebrow. "You tell me."

"How would I know?" Yvette shrugged with feigned innocence. "Maybe you were too absorbed in work? Figured since I was home with the kids, it wasn't that important to rush back."

She let out an exaggerated sigh of disappointment, glancing up just in time to catch Albert's eyes narrowing dangerously.

Albert leaned forward, his eyes glinting with warning. "Today you promised that if I wasn't home by nine, you'd bring the kids to my office so they couldn't keep me for overtime."

Yvette's smile froze on her face. She had actually promised that.

Her face went pale as the memory returned, and she looked down guiltily. "I'm sorry, I think I really did say that."

"Remember now?" Albert asked.

"Yes." Yvette looked genuinely remorseful. "You should have reminded me."

She reached for her phone, and her heart sank when she saw five missed calls from Albert, starting at 9:55 and continuing until 11:30. He had been trying to reach her, trying to wake whatever conscience she had left. But Yvette had enabled do-not-disturb mode before falling asleep, rejecting all his calls.

"I'm so sorry, I genuinely forgot." Yvette pressed her palms together apologetically.

Albert's gaze was sharp. "Didn't the staff remind you?"

"What?" Yvette blinked in confusion, shaking her head. "The staff? They didn't know about this, did they?"

"BoBo and CiCi remembered." Albert's voice was heavy. "The staff already apologized to me. They said BoBo and CiCi reminded them, but they forgot to wake you."

"It's not their fault." Yvette bit her lip. "I told them not to disturb me before I went to sleep."

Yvette felt genuinely terrible. Between the doctor's visit and her exhaustion, she had completely forgotten about the promise. The medication had knocked her out so thoroughly that she hadn't stirred once.

She felt awful not just toward Albert, but toward BoBo and CiCi too. Her children were responsible kids who always kept their word. They had remembered to pick up Albert but couldn't fulfill their promise because she was sleeping. They must have gone to bed feeling terrible about it.

Albert's expression shifted uncomfortably, and after a moment of contemplation, he said quietly, "You've been neglecting me lately."

Yvette froze, hearing the genuine hurt in his voice.

"I'm sorry, I really did forget."

After leaving Benjamin's earlier that day, Yvette's mind had been a tangle of conflicting thoughts. Coming home, taking the medication, and falling asleep had completely erased the promise from her memory. She was definitely at fault. But strangely enough, hearing Albert express his dissatisfaction so earnestly struck her as almost endearing.

"Are you actually angry?" Yvette asked with a coaxing smile.

"Yes." Albert's gaze was intense as he stared at her. "You never used to be like this. You've been neglecting me more and more lately."

In the warm lamplight, Yvette could clearly see the unmistakable hurt and disappointment in his eyes. Sensing his emotional turmoil, she reached out to take his hand, her fingers gently tracing patterns on his skin to soothe him.

"Should I make a promise then?" she asked softly.

"What do you mean?"

"I promise I won't neglect you anymore!"

Albert's lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes searching hers as if trying to read her true intentions.

"Really?"

Yvette blinked innocently, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Nope, just kidding!"

Albert's expression darkened with annoyance.

"Okay, okay, I'm serious!" Yvette laughed. "You're practically begging me—how could I refuse?"

Looking at Albert up close—his long lashes, those deep eyes, and that rare glimpse of vulnerability he usually kept hidden—Yvette felt her heart skip a beat.

"There, no more being angry." Yvette's eyes sparkled with playful mischief as she deliberately leaned closer to him. "If you keep pouting, I'll have to tell BoBo and CiCi how childish their daddy is being!"

Albert shot her a deliberately cool look and turned his head away.

"Still sulking?" Yvette giggled as she moved closer, growing bolder by the moment. She shifted her body teasingly, deliberately pressing closer to Albert, her clear eyes sparkling with challenge.

Rather than pulling away, Albert moved toward her, closing the distance between them until they were mere inches apart. Their eyes locked, and time seemed to freeze in that electric moment. The air between them crackled with unspoken tension.
