Chapter 249 Yvette Makes Soup for Albert
Thinking back to that blinding light, it had to be the diamond on the necklace.
Yvette blinked, a bit puzzled. "Is this for me?"
"Yeah." Albert, still tipsy, looked a bit uncomfortable. "Keep it."
Albert didn't say much, but Yvette could tell from his eyes that he remembered her birthday.
Yvette's eyes got a little misty. She stared at Albert, feeling like his familiar face was getting blurry.
Albert pursed his lips. "Whatcha thinking? Don'tcha want it?"
He reached out to take the necklace back.
Yvette quickly broke free from his grasp and hugged him. "I want it."
Her voice was soft, with a hint of playfulness.
Hugging Albert, it took Yvette a couple of seconds to realize she was being too forward. She quickly let go and grabbed the necklace.
Seeing Albert so drunk, Yvette didn't want to make things harder for him and put the necklace on herself.
"Does it look good?" she asked.
Albert looked away, his voice rough. "Vincent bought it."
Yvette gazed at Albert, who was leaning on her, stubbornly interpreting the redness on his face as shyness.
She raised her hand to cup his warm face and leaned in for a kiss.
Since he was drunk, she decided to be bold, betting he wouldn't be mad when he woke up.
Usually shy, Yvette suddenly became bold and proactive, eliciting a flash of surprise in Albert's eyes before he swiftly regained control.
The pendant on the necklace somehow rolled to her lips. Yvette took it into her mouth, feeling the cool touch of the diamond with her tongue, and stared into Albert's drunken yet tender eyes.
The scent of alcohol added to the moment. Yvette was lost in it, wrapping her arms around Albert's neck.
She wished time could stop right there.
Back in Luken, Milton drove Yvette back to the Valdemar family, while Albert headed straight to the Valdemar Group.
Vincent stood in front of the desk. "The news about the Valdemar Group funding the elementary school is out, and the response is pretty good. The group's projects are also moving along smoothly, just like you predicted."
Albert nodded, tapping the computer screen lightly. "How's the monitoring of James and Lisa going?"
Vincent reported without changing his expression. "We've started looking into Lisa's cousin like you asked, but no news yet. James and Lisa are very cautious, and they left no traces when dealing with your mother's matter, so it might take some time."
"I get it."
Albert had expected this; Hayden wouldn't have struggled for years otherwise. Tough as it was, he wouldn't quit after returning to the Valdemar family for this.
Albert suddenly asked, "What's going on with David?"
"He's been pretty chill lately, likely swamped with work," Vincent paused, "Recent job stuff's been getting to him."
Albert nodded. Having turned down David's project extension request, he was aware of David's struggles.
Albert opened a work file, his fingers flying over the keyboard. After a bit, he frowned and looked up at Vincent.
Seeing him still standing there, Albert was annoyed. "Anything else?"
Vincent nodded, his expression softening. "Mr. Valdemar, did you give the necklace to Yvette?"
Albert's phone buzzed, and a flash of irritation crossed his face. He hit the delete key repeatedly, erasing the accidental gibberish he had typed.
Albert said, "None of your business."
Vincent looked puzzled and muttered, "But you asked me to buy it."
Albert just snapped, "Get out!"
Back at the Valdemar family home, Yvette had just put down her luggage when Cheryl pulled her into the tea room for a chat.
"Yvette, how have you been these past two days? He didn't give you a hard time, did he?"
Thinking about what had happened in the countryside, Yvette subconsciously touched the necklace around her neck, her cheeks blushing slightly. She shook her head. "No, he's been really nice."
With her sharp eyes, Cheryl noticed Yvette's necklace and smiled. "That's good. It seems you two are getting along well. He even gave you a gift?"
Yvette nodded, reminded by Cheryl.
Since Albert had given her a necklace, she figured she should do something for him too.
With that thought, Yvette stood up. "Cheryl, I want to learn how to make chicken soup."
"Chicken soup?" Cheryl was puzzled. "Didn't you say he doesn't like chicken? You're not making it for Albert?"
"It's for him," Yvette explained. "He ain't a fan of chicken, but he sure loves chicken soup."
Cheryl smiled. "You sure got him figured out. The cooks here are ace at soup-making. You can pick up tips from any of 'em."
Seeing Yvette's enthusiasm, Cheryl couldn't help but tease. "You're learning to make soup. Albert is really lucky to have you!"
Yvette smiled shyly.
During rush hour, traffic was heavy. Albert glanced at his watch.
Against his initial plans, Albert returned for dinner at Cheryl's insistence, ultimately agreeing and arranging for Milton to pick him up.
When he finally arrived at the Valdemar family home, he saw two maids standing in the yard, patting their chests in relief.
"Yvette is amazing. I've been cutting chicken for years and thought it was normal, but the way she explained it was terrifying." One maid mimicked a vomiting gesture.
The other maid nodded, looking horrified. "She was so skilled at cutting meat and bones. I praised her talent, but then she started naming each part and comparing it to human anatomy, talking about cutting tendons and membranes. It was scary."
"She doesn't need to use her surgical skills on a chicken."
A trace of surprise crossed Albert's face, but he couldn't help but smile.
This was indeed something Yvette would do.
Albert pushed the door open, and the two maids quickly fell silent.
Albert walked into the Valdemar family home and headed towards the kitchen.
From a distance, he saw Yvette's back, wearing an apron. She was stirring the soup with a spoon while looking at the soup-making steps written by the maids on the fridge.
Listening to Yvette muttering the next steps and smelling the aroma of chicken soup, Albert stood still, his eyes deep and touched.
