Chapter 259 Car Accident
Vincent stood at the door of Albert's office, hesitating to go in.
Albert had shown up at the company early that morning, radiating a particularly gloomy vibe, clearly unhappy with everyone's work.
If it weren't for the mountain of work he had to report, Vincent would have avoided Albert like the plague.
Taking a deep breath, Vincent knocked on the door and stepped inside, ready to update Albert on the latest project progress.
Albert's face was cold, and an inexplicable irritability simmered within him, making him visibly agitated.
Vincent slowed his speech, nervously glancing at Albert's expression every few seconds.
It wasn't until he finished reporting on all the projects and saw that Albert didn't say anything that Vincent finally exhaled in relief.
He put away his tablet and was about to leave the office when Albert spoke up.
"Come back."
Albert's voice was low, sending a chill down Vincent's spine. He stammered, "Did I say something wrong?"
Albert then realized his expression was off and softened his gaze slightly. He asked, "How's it going with following Violet?"
Vincent nodded. "You were right. Our people found out she went to the eastern part of the city."
Albert frowned slightly and looked up, asking, "Their old factory?"
"Yeah, that's the place where your mom hammered out that deal with them," Vincent clarified. "She's gotta have a line to Micah."
Albert's eyes darkened. "Couldn't keep up?"
"We did, but we didn't find anything. We'll need to follow her a few more times." Vincent thought for a moment and reminded Albert, "She's very clever. We lost her at one point, so she must be on guard."
"I know."
Albert wasn't surprised; he responded indifferently, already familiar with the type of woman Violet was.
Albert raised his hand to rub his temples, and Vincent immediately asked, "Is the afternoon meeting still on?"
Reflecting on the events of the previous night, Albert felt a pang of regret. After a brief pause, he mustered the resolve to take the schedule and scratch out the afternoon appointments.
Albert stood up. "I have something to do this afternoon. I need to go out."
"Okay."
The mall was brightly lit, a scene of prosperity.
Albert hadn't figured out why he came here, but he was already here.
Last night, he seemed a bit emotional. No matter what Yvette did, he had promised not to treat her roughly again, and he shouldn't break that promise.
As he passed by a store, a sales associate, seeing Albert in a high-end custom suit and a watch worth a house in Luken, immediately greeted him warmly.
"Sir, hello. What can I help you with? I can introduce you to any style," the sales associate explained. "Our store is a very famous brand, perfect for personal use or as a gift."
Albert paused and walked into the store without responding, just browsing casually.
The sales associate followed behind, enthusiastically asking, "Are you buying for yourself or as a gift?"
Seeing that Albert didn't say anything and went straight to the women's section, she asked, "Is it for your girlfriend? Is it her birthday or an anniversary?"
After a moment of continued silence from Albert, the sales associate was on the brink of persisting when Albert finally spoke.
"No."
Despite his chilly tone, the sales associate, drawing on her seasoned expertise, ventured, "Did you make your girlfriend angry?"
Albert pursed his lips, frowning slightly, but the next second he regained his composure.
The sales associate nodded knowingly. Since he didn't deny it, it must be true. She led Albert to the handbag counter. "You can look at the bags here. There's no problem a new bag can't solve when it comes to an angry girlfriend!"
The sales associate picked up a bag. "This is a limited edition from our brand, always high-priced and hard to get. Women absolutely love it. We only have this one, a regular customer ordered it but hasn't picked it up yet. If you want it, I can give it to you first."
Albert thought for a moment and pointed to the bag in her hand. "This one."
"Okay, please wait a moment!"
The sales associate quickly packed the bag, and Albert swiped his card, taking the package and turning to leave.
Before leaving, Albert lightly pursed his lips and added, "It's for my wife."
Watching Albert's departing figure, the sales associate realized he was correcting the "girlfriend" part.
What a strange person.
Vincent got a call and immediately rushed to the mall to pick up Albert.
This mall was one of the Valdemar Group's properties. He initially thought Albert was there for an inspection, but when Albert came down, he was carrying an orange luxury brand bag.
Vincent opened the car door for Albert, raising his hand to shield the car roof. "Is this for Mrs. Cheryl Perez? This brand exudes elegance, truly befitting her stature!"
Albert paused as he bent to get into the car, straightened up, and glared at Vincent.
Vincent suddenly understood his mistake and swiftly rectified, "My apologies. I meant Mrs. Valdemar."
Hearing this, Albert glared at Vincent again.
Vincent thought, 'Albert actually bought a gift for Yvette?'
The car drove steadily on the road, Vincent calmly driving while Albert rested with his eyes closed in the back seat.
Suddenly, the car swerved, and Vincent's gasp was drowned out by the sound of sudden braking.
Albert frowned, opening his eyes just as the car was hit from the front.
Vincent quickly turned the steering wheel, the tires screeching against the ground.
Suddenly, the roar of an engine erupted outside, followed by a deafening crash as the car was struck.
The screeching brakes shattered the street's silence, accompanied by the sound of metal scraping and deforming. The massive inertia and impact threw Albert against the front seat.
Albert looked up, his expression growing serious.
Vincent turned back in a panic. "Mr. Valdemar, are you okay?"
Albert pressed his lips tightly, his eyes cold and sharp. "I'm fine."
Vincent was about to roll down the window to check the other vehicle when Albert sternly ordered, "Drive away."
Vincent immediately understood. "Got it."
He drove while dialing the security department, reporting their location in a deep voice, "Send a car over immediately."
Before long, their backup arrived.
Once in the new car, Vincent was still a bit shaken, but Albert's voice had calmed down.
"Find out who sent them."
Vincent replied, "Understood."
Albert rotated his wrist. "Their target was our car. It was a hit-and-run. The car had been altered, no license plate, definitely planned ahead. Look into it."
He glanced at a road sign, noting it was on the way to their inspection site. "They found us here."
"Yes, they probably didn't expect you to leave the company early for the mall, so they had to wait here." Vincent's face was grim. "Your movements must have been compromised, forcing them into a corner."
Albert's eyes narrowed, a disdainful smile playing on his lips. "As expected."
"If they know your schedule, there must be a mole in the Valdemar family." Vincent cautiously looked at Albert. "Since your father has already used Mrs. Valdemar, if something were to happen to you..."
Vincent braced himself and continued, "Mrs. Valdemar would be in great danger."
Albert's eyes turned cold.
