Chapter 483 A Hostile Arrival
The Mansion Room
Despite being a suburban mansion, the room was set up like a hospital ward.
A woman lay on the hospital bed. Her face was a bit pale, but it couldn't hide her stunning beauty.
Her delicate, slender arm was wrapped in medical bandages, making her fair skin stand out even more.
Around her bed were several high-tech medical devices, constantly working and emitting faint sounds. These machines were like her life's guardians, monitoring her vital signs day and night.
The air in the room was filled with the scent of disinfectant, which, combined with the white walls and equipment, created a cold and somber atmosphere.
Gabrielle looked at the woman in front of her, her eyes full of pity and sadness, but her words were sharp.
"Why did you have to get involved with Clifford? He's always been a good kid, never causing any trouble except for wanting to be a doctor. But for you, he ignored our feelings and risked his life to save you. What kind of spell did you cast on him?"
Anais was annoyed. "Mom, please stop! Neither of them has woken up yet, don't make things worse!"
Anais rubbed her temples in frustration. Because of Clifford's "disappearance" and the rumors outside claiming his supposed relationship with Yvette, the Hayes family had taken a big hit, and it was up to Felix and her to handle it.
Gabrielle's constant complaints were driving her crazy.
Gabrielle was on the verge of breaking down. "Clifford was kidnapped because of her, and he hasn't woken up after saving her. How can I, as his mother, not be heartbroken? If it weren't for our family sending people to rescue Clifford, they would have been caught in the second explosion and she would have perished in the fire! Can't I even say these things?"
"But Mom, since you know this woman is someone Clifford risked his life to save, and you helped save her, can't you stop complaining?" Anais pleaded. "Mom, Dad and I are already exhausted. Can you please control your emotions?"
"Anais is right," Felix said, rubbing his temples. "Doing good deeds is always beneficial. Saving her was a great deed, and Clifford will surely wake up."
Gabrielle, unable to control her emotions, left the room in tears.
Anais looked at Yvette lying on the bed, feeling conflicted.
She didn't know the exact relationship between Clifford and Yvette, but since Yvette was Albert's wife, it was a risky situation.
Anais sighed deeply. The Hayes family had always been cautious and low-key in Luken, but they never expected to provoke Albert because of this.
How much longer could they keep this secret...
The night was deep, and the city lights flickered past the window.
A black car slowly drove into the Hayes Mansion.
Felix and Gabrielle stepped out of the car, their faces grim, and walked into the house.
As soon as they entered, they saw a man sitting on the sofa, his face somewhat obscured by the dim light.
Felix and Gabrielle were shocked; they hadn't expected a visitor at this hour.
Rather than a visitor, it was more like an uninvited guest.
There was only one person who could break into the Hayes Mansion without alerting them.
It was the person they least wanted to see, Albert.
Albert sat on the sofa, seemingly deep in thought.
Felix and Gabrielle exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with confusion and wariness.
This was not a friendly visit.
They looked towards the housekeeper and servants, but no one dared to meet their gaze.
Felix and Gabrielle knew Albert must have said something to make their loyal servants too afraid to warn them.
Felix, who had built his career in Luken with his brothers, quickly regained his composure.
He nodded respectfully to Albert. "Mr. Valdemar, what brings you to our humble abode?"
Albert remained motionless, merely lifting his eyelids. "Mr. Hayes, Mrs. Hayes."
Albert's thin lips uttered a few words in a low voice, but he didn't continue.
Felix and Gabrielle were instantly overwhelmed by his presence, feeling a chill down their spines.
Despite her emotional nature, Gabrielle knew how to handle serious matters. She stepped forward, her voice small and steady. "Mr. Valdemar, we apologize. My husband and I have been exhausted dealing with family matters and failed to welcome you properly. We apologize for any offense."
Gabrielle waved to the servants. "Quickly, serve Mr. Valdemar some good tea."
Albert raised his hand. "No need."
"Indeed, we have been poor hosts," Felix said, recovering. "Mr. Valdemar, please, let's move to the guest room to talk. You are an esteemed guest, and we dare not neglect you."
Felix and Gabrielle pretended to be busy, avoiding eye contact with Albert.
Some people had such a natural presence that even their elders couldn't escape it.
Albert didn't refuse but didn't move either.
Just as Felix and Gabrielle were feeling tense, Albert's eyes darkened, and he slowly stood up. His already imposing presence became even more intense.
He didn't beat around the bush, his lips moving slightly. "I came today to ask you to hand over the factory's surveillance footage."
Felix's heart raced, a flash of panic in his eyes, and he lowered his head, afraid Albert would notice.
"Surveillance footage?" Felix's tone was surprised. "Which factory are you referring to?"
At this point, Gabrielle suddenly broke down and started crying.
"Mr. Valdemar, we wish we had that footage too!" Gabrielle sobbed. "If we had the factory's surveillance footage, the Hayes family could at least know what happened in the factory and who the culprits were! Clifford is our only son!"
Gabrielle cried, and Felix patted her back to comfort her.
Felix apologized. "Sorry, Mr. Valdemar, my wife is heartbroken over our son. Please forgive her."
Albert's expression remained unchanged, his cold gaze sweeping over Felix and Gabrielle. "You know which factory I'm talking about."
Gabrielle was so frightened by Albert's cold voice that she stopped crying, only sobbing quietly.
Felix insisted. "Mr. Valdemar, we've been busy dealing with our son's situation and haven't had time to look for any factory. Could you remind us?"
Albert pressed his lips together, not speaking.
Vincent said, "There is a factory a few miles from the incident site with road surveillance that captures the entrance and exit. We know the Hayes family bought the surveillance footage."
Felix and Gabrielle exchanged a glance.
Felix frowned. "How is that possible? We don't know about this footage. Mr. Valdemar, who misled you?"
