Chapter 378 Either Hold Tight or Let Go
Albert stood at the doorway, squinting slightly, a chilly and dangerous aura surrounding him.
Vincent stiffened all over. "Mr. Valdemar..."
He opened his mouth to explain, but Doyle stopped him.
Albert glanced at Doyle sideways and said in a deep voice, "Dr. Cunningham, are you trying to harm me?"
Although he addressed Doyle as "Dr. Cunningham," Albert's tone was clearly not respectful; it was more like he was gritting his teeth.
"Albert, you're being unreasonable," Doyle said righteously. "I'm just trying to help you."
Albert sneered but didn't respond.
Doyle continued, "If you think I'm harming you, I can tell your wife about your current situation. Whether she chooses to stay and take care of you can be her decision."
Doyle's words made Albert's eyes narrow.
Thinking of how Yvette had said she would leave as soon as he got better, Albert's gaze grew colder.
He had always disdained using such clumsy tricks to keep Yvette by his side, but the thought of her leaving as soon as he recovered made him hesitate.
Albert's hands gripped the wheelchair's armrests tightly, a subtle movement that Doyle noticed.
Doyle raised an eyebrow and said meaningfully, "Alright, since you think that way, I'll go tell her. After all, you haven't wanted to see her lately and have been trying to push her away."
Albert's eyes darkened.
Vincent, hearing Doyle's misunderstanding of Albert, quickly spoke up to explain, "Dr. Cunningham, Mr. Valdemar isn't trying to push Mrs. Valdemar away; he's afraid of burdening her. No man wants his wife to suffer with him."
Albert shot Vincent a cold glance, silencing him. Despite his thoughts, Vincent didn't want anyone to see through him. However, his words reminded Albert.
He had been trying to push Yvette away because he was facing paralysis and was on the verge of losing his position as the head of the Valdemar Group. He didn't dare to keep her by his side anymore.
But since his spine was fine, he had the right to keep Yvette!
Albert understood Doyle and Vincent's intentions and remained silent.
Seeing that Albert didn't object anymore, Doyle smiled meaningfully. "With modern medicine, Albert, I can give you a strong dose anytime, and you'll be cured immediately. But if you still feel weak in your legs, we can stay in the hospital and treat it slowly."
Vincent frowned and objected, "But if Mrs. Valdemar finds out Mr. Valdemar is pretending not to stand up and is deceiving her, won't she be very angry?"
"Deceiving her? No, we're not deceiving her," Doyle answered seriously. "He really can't stand up now. His legs have several injuries, and his spine is also injured. Leg pain and weakness make it impossible for him to stand. He does need care, so where's the deception?"
Vincent was a bit troubled. "But we initially told Mrs. Valdemar that Mr. Valdemar had a risk of paralysis."
"The risk was real, but now he's getting better." Doyle smiled. "Besides, adding a little spice for love isn't a bad thing, is it?"
Albert listened to Doyle's words and just snorted coldly. "Boring."
Doyle said, "Boring or not, as long as it works. Albert, the decision is yours. Just don't say I didn't help you."
Vincent, always good at reading people, saw that Albert didn't object anymore and knew he had made up his mind.
Vincent couldn't help but sigh. "Dr. Cunningham, you really are an experienced man."
In the video call, BoBo and CiCi seemed to miss her. They couldn't say what they wanted to, just kept calling "Mommy."
Yvette felt guilty and repeatedly promised them that she would go back to be with them once Albert got better.
But Yvette had no idea when Albert would get better.
After hanging up, over an hour had passed. Yvette returned to the ward and carefully approached Albert's bedside, only to find it empty. Albert was gone!
Yvette instantly panicked. How could someone almost paralyzed suddenly disappear from the bed?
Yvette racked her brain to recall what had happened, but she had been in the hospital lobby corner making a call and couldn't see who came in or out of the room.
Thinking of this, Yvette became even more scared.
Where did he go?
Yvette immediately turned to go look for him, but as she ran out of the room, she bumped into Vincent pushing Albert back.
Yvette's tense muscles relaxed a bit, and she felt slightly relieved.
Her voice trembled slightly. "Where did you go?"
Albert looked up at Yvette but didn't speak.
On the way back, with Vincent pushing him, Albert wrestled with what to do. Torn between two forces, the usually decisive Albert faced a difficult choice for the first time.
But seeing Yvette, Albert's thoughts became clear.
Since it was hard to decide, he wouldn't decide for now.
Albert remained calm and composed.
Vincent explained, "Mr. Valdemar felt unwell just now, so I took him to see Dr. Cunningham."
Hearing that Albert was unwell, Yvette became even more anxious.
"Unwell? Where?" She was both anxious and guilty. "The kids were eager to talk to me, and I lost track of time. How are you feeling now? What did Dr. Cunningham say?"
Yvette's concern and anxious tone made Albert's heart stir slightly. "Just a bit of numbness in my legs."
"Numb?" Yvette immediately felt even more guilty. "Was it the wrong position, pressing on them?"
Albert's face showed a hint of discomfort. His feelings for Yvette had always been clear: either hold on tight or let go. But now, he was conflicted.
He wanted to tell her he wouldn't be paralyzed and could keep her by his side, but he was afraid she would leave as soon as she knew he was better.
But if he didn't tell her and she found out...
Albert subconsciously frowned, looking troubled.
He couldn't hide it forever. If she found out one day that he wasn't paralyzed but didn't tell her, would she want to leave him even more?
