Chapter 406 Returned Gift
The mall was bustling with weekend activity. Amidst the crowd, David stood calmly, his gaze fixed on a woman in a men's clothing store.
He raised his hand slightly, and a few bodyguards stepped forward.
Leading them was the one who had captured Yvette last time. He nodded. "Mr. Valdemar."
David spoke lightly, his face expressionless, his eyes fixed on the woman in the store, "Go, distract the people Albert has placed around her."
David's voice was low, his tone gentle, yet it carried an undeniable authority.
The bodyguard was stunned, looking at David with difficulty.
He hesitated for a moment before finally speaking, "Mr. Valdemar, last time in the mall, our people tried to distract them, and it took quite a bit of effort..."
The bodyguard didn't continue, but David's gaze had already turned cold.
His voice carried a chill. "So?"
The bodyguard answered, "Last time we successfully distracted them without being noticed because your meeting with her was brief. But they are smart and have clearly become aware. This time, they won't be easily fooled."
David frowned, a trace of displeasure flashing in his eyes, making the bodyguards nervous.
David was not one to get angry easily, always treating his subordinates with a gentle demeanor.
But everyone knew he was a seemingly kind but actually sinister person. Otherwise, his assistant wouldn't have ended up the way he did.
The bodyguard's already large muscles tensed, making him look even more robust.
David glanced coldly at them, then smiled slightly. "How did you do it last time?"
The bodyguard replied respectfully, "Last time, we used a diversion, arranging some suspicious people for them to chase, and the last one who insisted on staying was taken down by our people."
"Making a big move and being noticed is normal; no one is a fool." David's gaze grew colder.
The bodyguard was still nervous. "So this time..."
"Whether it's difficult or not is your problem." David's smile didn't waver. "But I want to talk to her alone."
The bodyguard broke out in a cold sweat and reluctantly agreed, "Yes, Mr. Valdemar!"
After speaking, the bodyguard turned and pressed the earpiece in his ear, giving orders.
As he turned, a trace of helplessness flashed in the bodyguard's eyes.
David stood in place, his gaze returning to Yvette in the store.
Yvette said something to the store clerk, who then led her to the back. Soon, she disappeared from David's view.
He frowned slightly but couldn't act rashly.
Albert's people, as he said, were not fools.
His health was not good now, and he had been staying in Eldoria for a long time. If Albert really wanted to seriously harm him, things would become very troublesome.
David, cautious not to provoke Albert at this critical moment, stood patiently. Five minutes later, his phone vibrated. His bodyguard informed him it was done. Smiling, his gaze returned to its usual gentleness as he walked into the store.
Yvette finished her business and was about to leave with a bag in her hand.
The shoes she bought for CiCi yesterday were a bit tight, so she needed to exchange them for a larger size.
Yvette felt a bit guilty; since returning to the country, she had spent very little time with BoBo and CiCi.
The two children had grown taller, but she hadn't noticed.
Yvette walked out with her head down, only to see a pair of expensive custom-made crocodile leather men's shoes in front of her.
The person wearing them seemed to have some difficulty walking, taking a few unsteady steps towards her.
In an instant, Yvette guessed who it was. She frowned and reluctantly looked up. Sure enough, it was David. Her lips tightened, eyes cold, gaze shifting.
Her body instinctively leaned back, as if she didn't want to get close to him.
From Yvette's body language, David clearly saw her distrust and resistance.
David glanced at the store's name and smiled slightly. "Yvette, why are you at this store again? Buying another tie?"
David's voice was gentle, as if he was just casually chatting.
But Yvette knew what kind of person he was.
Yvette heard the sarcasm in his words and frowned slightly. "What I do has nothing to do with you."
David and Yvette stood face to face, the air filled with tension.
"I'm not trying to interfere with you, nor do I want to make you feel troubled." David softened his tone. "I just want to talk to you."
Yvette said, "But you have already made me feel very troubled, and I don't want to talk to you anymore."
David's eyes turned cold, but his smile remained. "What about the children? Don't you want to talk about them?"
"The children's matters, Albert and I will find a way to solve." Yvette looked up at him, her eyes filled with distance and determination. "I won't be fooled by you again, David."
David said, "Yvette, are you afraid of him..."
"No." Yvette interrupted him, "I'm afraid of being fooled by you again."
Yvette took a step to leave, and David reached out to stop her.
She looked at him defensively. "What? Are you going to push me down again and have your bodyguards capture me?"
David's throat tightened, and he was stunned.
Taking advantage of this moment, Yvette turned and left without hesitation.
Watching Yvette's back as she left without a second thought, David's smile disappeared instantly.
He turned and walked into the store, frowning, his aura exuding a chill.
David approached the sales clerk who had just attended to Yvette and asked expressionlessly, "What did that lady come to the store for?"
His tone was calm, but the clerk could sense his displeasure.
The sales clerk was startled by his question, but upon recognizing David, she asked in surprise, "Mr. Valdemar? Are you Mr. Valdemar?"
David paused. "Yes."
"We saw the invitation you posted in the media, saying you were going to introduce your wife." The sales clerk's tone was excited, as if she was thrilled for her favorite couple. The sales clerk paused, then looked outside in confusion. "Mrs. Valdemar just left, didn't you meet her?"
David frowned, realizing the clerk had mistaken him for Albert.
Despite his inner resentment and dissatisfaction, David could only acknowledge it. "Yes, so what did she come for?"
"Mrs. Valdemar previously bought a tie from our store, but she just came back saying you had a similar one at home and didn't like it, so she came to return it." The sales clerk sighed regretfully, then cautiously added, "Mrs. Valdemar didn't seem very happy. Women always hope their husbands like the gifts they choose."
