Chapter 309 Aphrodisiac

Yvette's face flashed with panic for a second, but she quickly pulled herself together, relying on her professional training.

Being a doctor, she knew Albert was bluffing. If he was testing her, it meant he wasn't sure either.

Yvette yanked her hand free from Albert's grip and said firmly, "Lester and Christina were born in January two years ago."

She didn't admit she was Yvette, but she gave the kids' birthdates, knowing he'd do the math.

Albert thought it over. According to the doctor, Yvette's pregnancy began in March three years ago, with a due date in December. If the kids were born in January two years ago, they were conceived in April three years ago.

He frowned.

April? By then, Yvette had already vanished.

So, the kids were definitely David's.

The light in Albert's eyes dimmed instantly.

Yvette watched Albert's reaction, feeling like he was starting to believe her.

Back then, her medical records and the kids' birth records were both delayed by a month.

She had found it odd, but David explained that changes in immigration policy made it safer to delay by a month. She hadn't questioned him.

In hindsight, it likely stemmed from David's concern that Albert might locate her and the children. David was thorough and genuinely protecting them.

Albert stood there quietly, feeling a crushing sense of loss in his chest.

A month after losing their child in a bridge fall, Yvette became pregnant with David's child.

The realization hit him like a ton of bricks. He didn't want these painful details; he just wanted her back. The more he knew, the more it hurt.

"Thanks for looking after the kids today. They'll thank you as their uncle."

Yvette didn't linger and decisively left the office.

In the reception room, Vincent was playing cartoons for the kids. They hadn't realized what had happened and were already being pulled out of the room.

"Mommy, it hurts!"

Christina's little voice of protest made Yvette realize she was being a bit rough.

Yvette struggled to lift her almost three-year-old kids, who were taller and heavier than most their age. Gritting her teeth, she carried them into the elevator without looking back.

After getting the kids into the car, Yvette leaned weakly against the driver's seat, feeling a sense of relief.

If Albert knew the kids were his, she would never be able to leave Luken with them and return to Las Vegas for a peaceful life.

A small voice came from the back seat. "Mommy, CiCi's wrist hurts."

Yvette's heart sank, and she turned to see that both kids' wrists were slightly red.

Kids' skin was delicate, and she had used too much force in her panic.

Yvette immediately felt guilty. "I'm sorry, babies. Mommy was too rough."

"It's okay, Mommy." Lester gently comforted her. He paused and then cautiously asked, "Mommy, before you came, Uncle Albert seemed about to cry and asked us to hug him. What's wrong with him?"

Albert's pained, reddened eyes flashed in her mind. Yvette's already unsettled heart grew even more chaotic.

She paused and asked softly, "Did you hug him?"

"Yes!" Christina's sweet voice was filled with laughter, like a bright little sun. "I even kissed him on the cheek!"

Yvette lowered her eyes. "Hmm."

She thought to herself, 'Just hang in there a little longer. Once we get out of Luken and back to Vegas, everything will be alright.'

After putting the kids to bed, Yvette stayed in the room, too scared to sleep, listening for any noise from Albert's room.

Luckily, Albert didn't come back to the Valdemar house tonight.

Just as she let out a sigh of relief, the door opened, and David walked in.

Seeing David suddenly, Yvette's face showed a hint of unease.

"You're back?" Yvette asked, noticing David's sour expression. "What happened?"

David's face looked tense, but he quickly put on his usual gentle mask.

"Nothing, just some project issues," David said, rubbing his temples. "Got some bad info."

"Oh, then you should get some rest," Yvette said softly and lay back on the bed.

David then noticed Yvette's red, swollen eyes and tired face.

"Did something happen today?" he asked.

"Nothing." Yvette's voice was hoarse. "I'm tired, good night."

She turned away from David to calm the restless Lester, his eyes chilling at the sight of her back.

He had planned to find Micah, get dirt on James and Lisa, and buy shares to counter Albert. Instead, he ran into James and Lisa in the next city.

Clearly, they were all digging into Micah, and now they had exposed each other.

From now on, James and Lisa would be even more wary of him, making it harder for him to make any moves.

And the one stirring the pot was definitely Albert.

David looked at Yvette's turned back, and picked up his phone to text the private detective: [Report Jessica's schedule this afternoon to me.]

The reply came quickly: [Mrs. Valdemar visited the Valdemar Group headquarters and then spent half an hour in Albert's office. Note: The children were taken out by the assistant.]

Seeing this message, David's eyes almost burned with rage, his face dark and menacing.

Yvette, who had regained her memory, and Albert had been alone in a private space for half an hour, and last time, they appeared one after the other, looking disheveled.

If Yvette kept seeing Albert, the outcome was clear.

He always wanted to be a gentleman, but Albert wasn't.

Dealing with a sly person required the use of sly methods.

David's cold eyes glowed with a chilling light.

Pretending to search for clothes in the wardrobe, he discreetly retrieved a small pill from his pocket—a potent drug that women couldn't resist, given by his assistant.

He had never used it before, hoping Yvette would come to him willingly. Now, he realized that hope was pointless.

Looking at the calendar, it was her ovulation period, a good time. Yvette was very traditional. If she had his child, she would naturally follow him obediently.

David casually dropped the pill into Yvette's cup, where it quickly dissolved.

Yvette heard the sound and turned to look at him. "What's wrong?"

David turned back, raising the cup in his hand. "You've had a rough night. Have some water."

Yvette wasn't thirsty, but since David offered it kindly, she couldn't refuse and took it.

"Thanks."

She said and drank it all in one gulp.
