Chapter 201 James's Request

Lassie's words hit Yvette like a ton of bricks.Yvette suddenly realized something. If she didn't divorce Albert, she could totally ask him for help with this mess.

She'd already given up a child Albert didn't want. She knew he didn't love her, and she was desperate to leave. But their relationship was never about love; it was always about the cash. It was her own greed that made her crave his love.

Lassie's situation reminded her again that love wasn't as important as reality. Yvette took a deep breath and repeated herself, but this time with more confidence, "I'll figure something out, you hang in there."

Lassie tried not to laugh, a faint smile playing on her lips. She picked up a fork with fake difficulty. "You're just too stubborn; no one can change your mind." Zora watched them both, worried but too scared to say anything.

After settling Lassie, Yvette went back to her room, planning to take a nap. But even with her eyes closed, she couldn't sleep, tossing and turning.

After a lot of thinking, Yvette picked up her phone and called James. James sounded surprised. "Yvette?"

"Yeah, I'd like to meet. Is that okay?" Yvette asked straight up.

James was silent. Yvette clutched her blanket, nervously waiting for his answer. Neither of them spoke, and the silence dragged on.

Finally, James said, "I'll give you the Valdemar family's address."

"Okay." This was Yvette's first time at the Valdemar Villa. Having met Hayden before, she wasn't as nervous this time. She opened her bag and glanced at her marriage certificate. That was her confidence.

Yvette knocked on the door, and the servant looked her up and down. "Who are you here to see?"

Yvette replied, "James Valdemar."

The servant looked surprised and a bit disdainful. "Do you have an appointment?"

"Yes."

Just then, James came down the stairs. "It's fine, I told her to come. Let her in."

The servant replied, "Yes, Mr. Valdemar."

Yvette pressed her lips together, changed her shoes, and walked up to James. "I need to talk to you about my marriage with Albert."

The servant, who was tidying up Yvette's shoes, froze and looked up at her awkwardly.

James noticed and sneered, "Let's talk in the living room."

"Okay." Yvette sat on the sofa, still a bit nervous, clutching her bag strap tightly. "I came today to tell you that Albert and I are not getting a divorce."

James frowned, clearly displeased. But then he thought, with Hayden dead and Albert set to inherit a lot, whether they divorced or not wasn't urgent. James glanced at Yvette. "So?"

Yvette pressed her lips together, pulled out her marriage certificate from her bag, and placed it in front of James. "Albert and I are still legally married. We didn't sign a prenup. My family's in trouble, and I need help from the Valdemar family."

James was initially uninterested, but the mention of "no prenup" caught his attention. Without a prenup, if they divorced, Yvette could claim half of Hayden's inheritance to Albert. If James could control Yvette, he might have a shot at that inheritance.

James cleared his throat, leaned forward, and looked at Yvette with newfound interest. "What's the trouble in your family? What kind of help do you need?"

Yvette was a bit taken aback by James's sudden interest. She had come hoping for a miracle, not expecting James to agree so easily. "My mom's sick and needs a lot of money for treatment," Yvette explained.

"Sick? What kind of illness?" James asked casually.

Yvette didn't want to reveal too much just yet. "It's complicated. She needs periodic injections, and each one costs over $200,000."

James thought, 'Even with frequent injections, it would only cost a few million at most. Compared to Albert's inheritance, that's nothing.'

James smiled warmly at Yvette. "Of course, it's your mom. I can't just let her suffer."

Yvette was stunned, looking at James in confusion. His sudden change in attitude made her uneasy.

Realizing he might be coming on too strong, James cleared his throat. "Of course, I'll pay for your mom's treatment, but there are conditions."

'Of course,' Yvette thought. "What conditions?"

"Just one." James leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs, and glanced at Yvette. "You come live with the Valdemar family and have a child." He chuckled. "It's that simple."

But James didn't know that Yvette was willing to do anything except have a child. Yvette's throat tightened. "Albert won't want to have a child with me. We've already lost one."

"That miscarriage was an accident. You're both still young. Living together, you'll have one soon," James reassured her casually. "That's my condition. If you agree and have a child, no matter what treatment your mom needs, the Valdemar family will cover it."

Yvette asked, "Hayden is already dead. Do you still need this child?"

James nodded. "Of course, as long as it's a Valdemar descendant, it's very precious."

Yvette frowned. "Even if I come to live with the Valdemar family, Albert won't come back to live here."

James smiled thoughtfully. "Don't worry. He will come back."

Yvette clenched her hands, thinking of Lassie's weak, trembling hands, and finally closed her eyes. When she opened them again, her eyes were filled with determination. "Okay."
