Chapter 279 Yvette's Voice

Christina accidentally bumped into Albert's leg and ended up falling backward.

"Help!" she cried out, wobbling before hitting the ground with a thud.

Everyone in the lobby of the Platinum Haven Hotel froze. The front desk staff rushed over, too scared to help Christina up, and kept apologizing to Albert.

"We're so sorry, sir! It's our fault for not keeping an eye on the kids." The staff handed Albert his room key. "Here's your key. We apologize again!"

She avoided eye contact with Albert, knowing he was a VIP and the kids were causing a commotion.

Albert turned to her, frowning. "What's going on here?"

The staff hurriedly clarified, "They belong to another guest who couldn't bring them to work. We deeply apologize, sir. We'll ensure it doesn't repeat."

Albert glanced at Christina on the ground and his now dirty tailored trousers. He rubbed his temples. Even someone as cold as Albert couldn't get mad at a kid.

Christina sat there, her lips quivering like she was about to cry.

Lester ran over, small but determined, and helped Christina up. "CiCi, I told you not to run around!"

Christina pouted but knew she was in the wrong and didn't dare to cry out loud. "The water's too hot. Mommy says we need to add cold water."

"Quick, say sorry!" Lester tugged at her clothes and bowed first. "Sorry!"

Reluctantly, Christina also bowed. Just as she was about to apologize, her eyes lit up when she saw Albert.

"Daddy!"

Lester was stunned too. He looked up at Albert, surprised. "Daddy? Aren't you supposed to be working at home?"

Albert was taken aback, his body instantly stiffening.

He was speechless as Christina and Lester called him "Daddy."

Albert met their gaze—one innocent and pure, the other wise and steady. They looked very similar but had completely different personalities.

Albert, who usually didn't like kids, felt a strange warmth for these two.

Could it be because they called him "Daddy"?

If he and Yvette had a child, they would probably be this age by now.

Albert's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, a hint of restrained emotion flashing in his deep eyes.

He didn't dare to think deeply. When he spoke, his voice was unexpectedly hoarse, "You called me Daddy?"

Christina nodded, smiling sweetly. "Daddy, let's not play the stranger game today. Can we wait for Mommy together?"

Albert pursed his lips, gazing into those bright, innocent eyes. He hesitated to speak, unable to deny her request.

As Christina spoke, she tried to climb onto Albert, but Lester suddenly grabbed her arm and held her back.

"Wait." Lester's eyes turned wary. Rather than holding her, it was more like protecting her. "You're not Daddy."

Albert and Lester locked eyes, looking into his steady gaze. "Do you think I am?"

Lester frowned. "Daddy wouldn't talk like that. You're not Daddy."

Christina protested, "This is Daddy! BoBo, you're being stupid!"

"CiCi!" Lester scolded. "Mom told us that some people pretend to be relatives to kidnap kids. Remember?"

Christina looked at Lester with a bit of hurt but didn't argue back.

Albert chuckled at the sight of the two kids, then froze. He couldn't remember the last time he laughed like that.

He pressed his lips together. "I'm not your Daddy, but I'm not a bad guy either. It's not safe for you two to be here alone. I'll wait with you for your mom."

He nodded towards Lester. "Give me your mom's phone number."

"No, Mom's working. We can't bother her." Lester held Christina and turned his head slightly, eyeing Albert like he was a kidnapper. "You should go. I can take care of my sister. We don't need you."

Lester pulled Christina back to the sofa in the lobby, giving Albert a wary glance.

That mature demeanor made Albert raise an eyebrow.

He didn't push it but didn't feel right leaving them alone, so he stood there waiting.

Glancing at his watch, more than ten minutes had passed, and their mom still hadn't shown up. Christina was getting restless, looking like she wanted to ask for help several times.

Albert walked over and sat down in front of them.

Christina immediately stood up. "Daddy, I mean, Sir, can you help us call my mom?"

Albert pulled out his phone. "Give me the number."

Christina nudged Lester. "BoBo!"

Reluctantly, Lester gave Yvette's phone number, then turned his head away, clearly annoyed.

Albert's lips curled slightly as he dialed the number.

On the other end, Yvette, as Lester had said, was working and answered in a hushed voice. "Hello?"

Before Albert could speak, Christina grabbed the phone.

"Mommy, sorry, I spilled water on someone's pants by mistake. When will you be done working so you can come and say sorry? He won't let us go."

Albert was silent.

When did he ever say that?

Not knowing what Yvette said on the other end, Christina pouted and nodded, handing the phone back to Albert. "Mommy said she wants to apologize to you in person."

Albert took the phone, his voice cold and slightly reproachful. "Hello, the kids are young, and the hotel staff are busy and can't watch them all the time. So, I hope you can finish work soon. I'll wait for you in the lobby. Don't worry."

"Sorry, sir!" Yvette's anxious voice came from the other end. "I'll come get them right away. I'm really sorry for the trouble. I'll give them a talking-to later. Thank you so much!"

This sincere apology left Albert stunned.

Yvette's voice felt like a hand gripping his heart tightly. His body tensed, and his usually calm face was overtaken by shock.

Did he hear wrong?

Why did he hear Yvette's voice?

Albert looked at the two kids in front of him. The boy's features seemed to resemble hers.

Albert was full of doubt.

Could it be Yvette on the other end of the line?
