Chapter 227 Yvette Wants to Leave the Valdemar Family as Soon as Possible
"Who says?" Albert blurted out.
David looked a bit surprised but quickly masked it. "You did," he replied calmly.
Albert shot him a furious glare. "I also said that even if Yvette and I get divorced, no one in the Valdemar family would ever accept her being with you."
David opened his mouth to argue, but Albert cut him off.
"And one more thing," Albert added, raising an eyebrow and looking even more defiant. "We're not getting divorced. Give it up."
Albert stood up, staring David down as he walked closer.
Albert was a bit taller than David. Being a pilot, his rigorous training had given him a much stronger build. Even though David kept in shape, he still seemed smaller and less imposing next to Albert.
Albert's voice dropped to a menacing tone. "Don't waste time wondering if I can use my status as the Valdemar heir to destroy you. Just think: if the Valdemar family finds out you're after your twin brother's wife, won't that be fun?"
David's throat tightened, his fists clenched at his sides, and his face muscles tensed. He was barely holding it together.
"Don't provoke me, and don't go after Yvette," Albert warned. "I have no mercy for traitors to the Martinez family."
After signing the papers, Yvette left the office, escorted downstairs by the CEO's secretary.
Noticing her dazed look, the secretary wanted to say something but held back.
On the ground floor, the secretary handed her over to the Valdemar family driver, who took Yvette home.
Everything was perfectly coordinated, thanks to Cheryl's arrangements, so Yvette didn't have to worry about a thing.
In the back seat, Yvette leaned against the soft backrest, trying to calm her emotions.
At this point, no matter what Albert did, she had to accept it. The agreement with James bound her. She was trapped, and all she could do was try to make amends.
Back at the Valdemar family home, Cheryl was coming downstairs.
"David just called," Cheryl said. "He wants to take me out tomorrow. Do you want to join us?"
Yvette perked up. "David? Didn't he say he was busy? How does he have time now?"
"Maybe he's done with work?" Cheryl suggested. "I've spent most of the past few years abroad, and when I'm back, I mostly stay with Hayden. He can't go anywhere, so neither can I. But I'm still healthy enough to enjoy an outing, and David offered, so I'm going.”
Yvette nodded. "If you want to go, I'll go with you."
"Okay." Cheryl looked at Yvette, recalling last night's events, and asked with a smile, "Did you see Albert? Did you ask if he'll be home tonight?"
Yvette was caught off guard and instinctively avoided Cheryl's gaze. "I didn't ask, but he probably won't."
"You need to figure it out. You two are still young. A baby would strengthen your bond and cement Albert's place in the family," Cheryl said. "I know Albert can be stubborn, but don't worry, I'll help you."
Yvette looked down. Cheryl had no idea what had gone down between them or about the agreement with James. Cheryl just wanted a grandchild, like any grandmother would.
Yvette couldn't refuse. A thought kept circling in her mind. If she had Albert's baby, could she finally gain some freedom without hurting his position? Even without a divorce, leaving the Valdemar house would be a kind of freedom.
Thinking this, Yvette took a deep breath, then nodded slowly. "Thank you."
Cheryl smiled, satisfied.
Early the next morning, just as dawn was breaking, David's car was already parked in the Valdemar family's garage.
James and Lisa were having breakfast and getting ready for work. Seeing David, James was a bit surprised. "What are you doing here so early?" he asked.
David replied, "I'm here to take Grandma and Yvette out."
Lisa, frustrated with James's reluctance to have a child, finally found an opportunity. She kept a friendly smile but spoke with a hint of sarcasm, "David is so good to Cheryl, just like his father."
James gave Lisa a disapproving look and ignored her comment.
James pointed upstairs, saying, "Alright, go ahead and call them."
As he spoke, Cheryl and Yvette had already finished getting ready and were coming downstairs.
The three of them quickly had some breakfast and left the Valdemar family home with the servants and luggage.
Seeing them in harmony, Lisa felt discontent but didn't dare to show it too openly.
"James, I see David and Yvette have been so good to Cheryl lately," Lisa said softly. "Since Cheryl likes children, we should make an effort while she's still around. She might really like our child as well."
"I know, I've been thinking about it too," James said, frowning. "Cheryl's assets are substantial, not less than Hayden's. But the problem is, with Hayden's recent death, the company is in chaos. I'm extremely busy and don't have time to think about having a child."
Using the same excuse, Lisa finally couldn't hold back. She said, "But if we wait any longer, Albert's child will be born first! James, didn't you see the hickey on Yvette's neck? If Albert's child is born, what will be left for our child?"
"If Yvette gets pregnant first, we won't need to have another child. Haven't I explained it to you before?"
Lisa's face immediately changed, and she was about to lose her temper.
At that moment, James's phone rang. He glanced at it and answered, "Albert?"
On the other end, Albert's voice was hoarse and deep. "Send Milton to my house. I drank last night and have a meeting this morning. Have him come pick me up."
"Milton?" James thought for a moment and said, "He's not here; he just left."
James continued, "David is taking Grandma and Yvette out today. They left early this morning, and with so many servants, Milton went with them."
