Chapter 489 Just Stay, Until He Wakes

Yvette was being wheeled out of the room by Gabrielle. She looked up and realized this place wasn't a hospital at all.

It was a private villa, but the room was decorated to look exactly like a hospital room.

Yvette's heart tightened.

A regular villa wouldn't have such advanced and professional equipment.

So this place was likely an unlicensed, hidden medical facility.

Yvette's hand on the wheelchair's armrest tightened instinctively, her slender fingertips turning slightly white.

She tried to stay calm and asked softly, "Can I ask you something?"

Gabrielle stopped and bent down to whisper in her ear, "Sure, what's up?"

Yvette tried to hide the tension in her voice. "How long have I been here? Have you contacted my husband, Albert?"

Rather than asking, Yvette was testing Gabrielle.

Everything happening in this private villa was too strange. From the location to the inexplicable drugs and injections, Yvette was suspicious.

Sure enough, Gabrielle was silent for a couple of seconds before saying, "Your husband is the CEO of the Valdemar Group. Even if you gave us his private number, he wouldn't trust us easily."

Yvette frowned. "I…"

She had just started speaking when Gabrielle interrupted her.

Gabrielle said, "I know you want him to come get you, but your situation with Clifford has made your husband very prejudiced against our Hayes family. He wouldn't want to deal with us."

Gabrielle squatted down in front of Yvette. "Don't overthink it. The most important thing for you now is to rest and recover. We'll handle everything else."

Yvette's voice trembled. "So he doesn't know I'm here? He's not coming to get me, is he?"

She took a deep breath. "Or could you just give me a phone? I'll contact him myself. As soon as he hears my voice, he'll come for me. Please? I don't want to trouble you anymore. Once I'm back with the Valdemar family, I'll do everything in my power to repay you for saving my life."

Before Yvette could finish, Gabrielle, who had always been gentle and calm with her, suddenly broke down.

"Repay? We don't need your repayment!" Gabrielle stood up and started pushing Yvette's wheelchair forward. "I'll take you to see my son right now!"

Yvette was stunned, feeling a few cold drops of water on her head. They were Gabrielle's tears.

She looked up to see Gabrielle's face full of worry and exhaustion, tears streaming down her cheeks, leaving deep marks.

Gabrielle brought Yvette to another room and pulled back the curtain, pointing to Clifford inside. "Look at him first!"

Yvette's gaze followed Gabrielle's words and landed on Clifford lying in the bed.

Clifford's head was wrapped in bandages, and he was hooked up to various tubes, surrounded by beeping life-monitoring machines.

Gabrielle's tearful voice echoed in Yvette's ears. "Clifford hasn't woken up yet! He nearly gave his life to save you! You're just weak, but what about him? We don't even know if he'll wake up!"

Yvette sat in the wheelchair, staring at Clifford in shock.

She knew Clifford hadn't woken up, but she hadn't realized it was this serious.

A flood of complex emotions surged in Yvette's heart.

She hadn't expected that because of her, Clifford would suffer such severe consequences!

Gabrielle continued, "Do you know? Clifford is our only son. He's always been obedient and sensible. Apart from wanting to become a doctor and opening his own hospital, he's never caused any trouble for the family. He finally agreed to come back and take over the family business, and then he met you."

Yvette's eyes flickered, and she lowered her gaze.

Gabrielle went on, "He took all the risks to save you. You question why I haven't contacted your husband, but how could I dare? Rumors about you and Clifford are spreading wildly, and Albert is almost our enemy. If you return to the Valdemar family, Albert could destroy the Hayes family with a snap of his fingers!"

"What did Clifford do wrong? Just because he was there when you were kidnapped, he should suffer like this? Lying in a hospital bed, unconscious, possibly losing his life?"

Yvette lowered her head, her voice choked. "I'm sorry."

"I don't need your apology. I just want my son to wake up." Gabrielle's face was wet with tears, her voice trembling. "I know it's not your fault. You're a victim too, innocent. But as a mother, I hope that after all he's done for you, you'll do something for him too!"

Yvette knew Gabrielle was right.

The situation wasn't as simple as she had imagined. Everyone was selfish, and for Clifford, this was an undeserved disaster.

"I know I've caused him trouble. I want to do something for him too…" Yvette's tears fell, her voice shaking. "I'm really sorry."

Hearing Yvette's response, Gabrielle gradually calmed down.

"Ms. Orlando," Gabrielle said, "if you feel guilty, stay here with him, at least until he wakes up."

Meanwhile, Albert pushed open the door to a room where a man was working on a computer. The man stood up.

The man nodded respectfully. "Mr. Valdemar."

Albert raised his hand, signaling him to sit. "What's the result of the video data analysis?"

The man was Luken's top data analyst. No matter how well a video was edited, it couldn't escape his scrutiny.

"To ensure 100% accuracy, I've analyzed the surveillance video you provided over a hundred times. According to my analysis, the video is genuine and unedited, and the timestamps match."

Albert frowned slightly. "So this is indeed the original footage?"

"Yes."

That one word nearly extinguished Albert's hope.

He had hoped to find some evidence in the factory's surveillance video, but it seemed futile now.

Albert nodded coldly. "Thank you for your hard work."

He turned to leave the room, and Vincent, waiting outside, approached him.

Seeing Albert's serious expression, Vincent had a good idea of the result.

Vincent thought for a moment and then spoke. "Since there are no leads from other directions, you'll have to focus on the Hayes family."

Albert said in a deep voice, "Even if we have to turn Luken upside down, we'll find out where the Hayes family is hiding Yvette and Clifford!"
