Chapter 515 Yvette Escapes

Clifford stood motionless at the doorway, his hands clenched into white-knuckled fists, his body trembling with barely contained rage.

His eyes bore into the closed door as if he could burn the conversation inside into his memory forever.

After leaving the room earlier, Clifford had hidden himself nearby. When he heard the door open and close again, he knew Felix and Gabrielle had confirmed his departure. By the time he crept back, they had already begun their damning confession.

The voices from within struck him like physical blows, each word a blade twisting deeper into his chest until he could barely breathe. What little color remained in his already pale face drained away completely.

His parents had terminated Yvette and Albert's child, used her as a test subject—all to save him?

The world seemed to tilt and blur around him. The shocking revelations spilling from Felix and Gabrielle's lips felt increasingly distant and unreal. Clifford pressed against the wall for support, his knuckles bone-white against the surface. He swallowed hard, but his throat remained parched and raw.

How could this be? He'd believed himself Yvette's savior. Even if they could never be together, at least he thought he'd left her with the memory of a hero. Now, knowing what Felix and Gabrielle had done to her—how could he ever face her again?

He had destroyed Yvette. He had to save her.

Every instinct screamed at him to burst through that door and confront them, but he forced himself to stay put. Yvette was still in their hands—one wrong move could seal her fate.

As Clifford wrestled with his torment, footsteps echoed from behind him—light but hurried, suggesting urgency.

Despite his weakness and exhaustion, Clifford gritted his teeth and slipped into a nearby room, leaving the door slightly ajar to observe through the crack.

A nurse rushed toward Felix and Gabrielle's room but was intercepted by a servant who grabbed her arm.

"What are you doing?" the nurse hissed. "I have urgent news for Mr. and Mrs. Hayes!"

"Absolutely not!" The servant blocked her path. "Mr. and Mrs. Hayes are conducting private business and left strict orders not to be disturbed. No matter how urgent your news, you cannot enter. Call them or have an assistant relay the message—but if you barge in and anger them, we'll both pay the price!"

"But—" the nurse protested.

"Do you have a death wish?" the servant snapped. "Can you handle Mr. and Mrs. Hayes' wrath when they're crossed?"

Without waiting for an answer, the servant dragged the reluctant nurse away. Their footsteps faded down the corridor, leaving the area in silence once more.

Clifford drew a shaky breath and emerged from his hiding place, taking a different route to avoid detection.

In her room, Yvette sat motionless by the window, staring out at the endless ocean with vacant eyes. Her thoughts drifted like the waves below, lost and searching.

She remembered boarding the plane, leaving that prison of an island behind, only to wake up in a dungeon, forced to endure their experiments. After threatening to take her own life, she'd finally escaped that damp, suffocating cell and been moved to this comfortable room.

But seeing this ocean again, Yvette understood the bitter truth—the plane had been nothing more than an elaborate deception. She was back on the same island, trapped once more.

Her face remained expressionless as her thoughts wandered across the vast waters, finding no anchor except in her own anguish.

Footsteps approached from the corridor. Yvette's pulse quickened—someone was bringing her meal.

A knock echoed from the door. She held her breath, watching the entrance with wary eyes, her fists clenched so tightly her knuckles turned white.

"Who is it?"

"Ms. Orlando, I'm here with your meal."

The voice carried none of the usual irritation or contempt. Yvette blinked in surprise. "Just a moment!"

Since her suicide threat, Felix and Gabrielle had indeed treated her better—moving her from the dungeon to this comfortable room and ensuring even the guards spoke to her with relative courtesy. Clearly, they still needed her alive for whatever bargain they planned to strike.

Taking a deep breath, Yvette walked to the door and opened it. The man before her was tall and broad-shouldered, dressed in a uniform, his eyes cold and detached as if her suffering meant nothing to him.

Her heart hammered against her ribs as her mind raced. She couldn't remain passive—she had to escape. She refused to be their pawn or bargaining chip any longer. She would find her own way out.

While searching for any opportunity, Yvette attempted to engage him in conversation. "Sir, could I borrow your phone for just a moment?" She swallowed hard, fighting to keep her desperation hidden.

She offered no explanation, only gazed at him with pleading eyes.

The guard looked at her strangely. "If I lend you my phone, do you think I'll still have a job?"

His response was exactly what she'd expected. She exhaled slowly. "I just want to check the time—the clock in my room seems to have stopped." She gestured toward the motionless timepiece on the wall.

"I'll get you a replacement," the man said, setting down her meal and removing the broken clock before leaving the room.

Yvette's heart nearly burst from her chest. This was her chance!

She knew there would be a brief window during the guard change—thirty seconds at most.

The moment the corridor emptied, Yvette bolted from her room, her heart racing and breath coming in sharp gasps, fueled by pure determination.

But thirty seconds passed like lightning. Soon voices erupted behind her.

"Don't let her escape! Stop her!"

The pursuit thundered through the empty corridors, footsteps echoing off the walls as shadows stretched long under the harsh lights. Yvette's strength was nearly spent, but she couldn't stop—couldn't let them catch her.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in her path. Before she could react, strong hands pulled her into a dark room nearby.

As Yvette opened her mouth to scream, a hand covered her lips. "Don't make a sound."
