Chapter 132 Buying a Ring

Sunlight poured through the plain curtains, filling the office with a warm glow. The floor-to-ceiling windows scattered the light across the tiles, brightening the room.

David was busy with documents, the only sound being his pen on paper.

The internal phone rang, and David casually answered.

"Mr. Valdemar, there's a Mrs. Orlando here to see you," said his assistant.

David paused. "Mrs. Orlando?"

"Yes," the assistant confirmed.

David couldn't recall anyone named Orlando. "Does she have an appointment?"

"No," the assistant replied, then added, "She says she's your sister-in-law."

David was surprised. "Yvette! Let her in!"

"Okay," the assistant nodded.

David stood up to greet her, and Yvette walked in.

Yvette's face was calm, but her tightly clenched handbag strap showed her nervousness. David's heart sank when he saw the sorrow in her eyes.

He had a feeling he knew why she was there.

David pretended not to know and smiled warmly. "What brings you here? Why didn't you call so I could come down to meet you?"

Yvette forced a smile. "I was just passing by and thought I'd drop in."

"Come in," David said, leading her to the guest couch.

Yvette hesitated, then asked, "Last time you said you wanted to give me something. What is it?"

David smiled. "Didn't I say I wanted to give you a lesson? You've already treated me to a meal, so that's it."

Yvette didn't buy it. "Really?"

Her eyes probed, searching for the truth.

David felt uneasy but quickly composed himself.

"Of course. What else would I give you?" he said.

Yvette took a deep breath and looked around his desk.

"Are you busy? Am I disturbing you?" she asked.

"No, you're always welcome here," David said, but he felt guilty as she approached the desk.

He quickly closed an inconspicuous folder and placed it on the file rack.

Yvette frowned. She sensed something was off.

She pretended not to notice and leaned against the desk. "You say I'm welcome, but I've been here a while and haven't even had a drink. It feels like you don't want me here."

David slapped his forehead. "Sorry, Yvette, my bad. I'll get you a drink now. Just a moment."

"Okay, thank you!" Yvette smiled.

As David left the office, Yvette's smile vanished.

She quickly grabbed the folder David had hidden.

Holding it, she took several deep breaths but hesitated to open it.

Yvette thought, 'If it's the divorce agreement signed by Albert, what should I do? But I have to face it.'

She bit her lower lip until it turned white, finally calming her racing heart and opening the folder.

To her relief, it was just meeting minutes.

Yvette exhaled slowly, closed the folder, and put it back.

Just then, the office door opened, and David walked in with a cup of warm water.

David handed it to her with a gentle smile. "We have all kinds of coffee and drinks, but since you're pregnant, warm water is best."

"Okay, thank you." Yvette's fingers trembled slightly as she took the water.

She looked up, her eyes filled with a final glimmer of hope. "Are you sure there's nothing you're hiding from me, nothing you haven't told me?"

"No, of course not," David said, jokingly adding, "I've even told you about my old relationships. There's really nothing else."

Yvette pressed her lips together and said nothing.

She tilted her head back and drank the warm water, which helped her calm down a bit.

David watched her intently, his expression understanding but with no warmth in his eyes.

Skyscrapers stood tall, and shopping malls faced each other across the street, making the commercial district bustling.

It was evening, and twilight blanketed the land. Albert drove into the mall.

He walked into a high-end jewelry store, and the clerks immediately brightened up and approached him.

"Hello, sir. Is there anything specific you're looking for?"

Albert glanced around and his eyes settled on a particular counter. "I'd like to pick out wedding bands."

"Sure, right this way." The clerk respectfully led him to the wedding band counter. "You can take a look at these."

Albert looked down, and the cold light from above made the wedding bands sparkle.

His heart stirred, wondering how Yvette would react when she saw the ring.

Yvette had once mentioned that despite being married for so long, they never had rings, neither wedding bands nor engagement rings. Their marriage didn't seem real, except for the marriage certificate.

Albert knew this was his fault.

She didn't want that necklace anymore, so he would replace it with a wedding band.

Albert pointed to a fully diamond-encrusted women's ring. "Can this one be engraved?"

The clerk nodded. "Yes, all our rings can be custom engraved."

Albert measured his ring size and roughly recalled Yvette's finger size, then decided on the size.

The clerk handed him a small notebook. "You can write down the engraving content here."

Albert nodded and wrote their names in the notebook.

——【Albert Valdemar, Yvette Orlando】

But as he handed it to the clerk, he added, "Just engrave the initials."

The clerk nodded. "Sure, no problem." The clerk muttered while looking at the paper. "So, the initials 'Y O' and 'A V'."
