Chapter 447 What Are You Doing, Ingrid?
The party was in full swing, with dazzling lights and a sea of people.
In the luxurious venue, a grand crystal chandelier hung high, casting a brilliant and sparkling light that created a romantic atmosphere throughout the space.
Everyone at the event was dressed to the nines, wearing elegant gowns and suits that shimmered under the lights, each detail showcasing their grace and status.
Yvette entered the ballroom in a simple white dress, holding the hands of BoBo and CiCi.
She wore no extravagant accessories or heavy makeup. Her hair was casually tied into a ponytail without any extra adornments.
Her appearance was clearly out of place with the opulent atmosphere of the party, yet she stood out like a fresh, pure white flower among a garden of lavish blooms, drawing many eyes.
Feeling the weight of the stares, Yvette furrowed her brow, a bit uncomfortable.
She had thought it was just a casual party to bring the kids to, but upon arrival, she realized it was actually a man's birthday celebration.
BoBo and CiCi seemed to sense something was off, too. There were no other children like Niamh around, only adults in fancy attire.
The two kids clung tightly to Yvette's hands, their innocent eyes filled with caution.
Yvette gently patted their heads to reassure them.
Just as she was considering leaving, BoBo pointed to someone nearby. "Mommy, our classmate is over there."
Yvette looked up and saw a familiar parent approaching with their child.
"BoBo, CiCi's mom, you got invited too?" Liliana Fairchild's mom asked. "Great, the kids can play together!"
Yvette smiled. "Liliana's mom, I'm a bit confused. Whose birthday party is this?"
"Oh, it's the Hayes family's kid's birthday party. He's Niamh's uncle from the class next door," Liliana's mom explained. "He didn't want Niamh to be bored, so he invited some of her kindergarten friends. I thought you were here for the same reason!"
Yvette felt a bit awkward. "I guess so."
She glanced down at BoBo and CiCi. Seeing them excitedly chatting with their classmate Liliana, their earlier tension gone, she decided against leaving immediately.
"Yvette!"
A slightly angry voice called out. Yvette turned to see Ingrid in an extravagant mermaid gown, her face full of anger.
Ingrid hurried over to Yvette, giving her a disdainful once-over. "Why are you dressed like this today? Even if people say you're not favored in the Valdemar Family, you shouldn't come out looking like this and embarrass me!"
"According to you, I just brought the kids to a small party. Why should I dress up like a peacock?" Yvette glanced at Ingrid's heavy makeup. "Or is this not just a kids' gathering?"
Yvette's eyes bore into Ingrid's, cold and slightly intimidating.
Ingrid felt a bit guilty but stubbornly said, "It's still a party I invited you to. Coming dressed like this is embarrassing for me!"
"Embarrassing? To whom?" Yvette raised an eyebrow. "What's your real motive for tricking me into coming here?"
"What motive could I have?" Ingrid snapped, embarrassed and angry. "I just wanted you to bring the kids to have some fun. There are several of their classmates here."
Ingrid refused to admit anything, thinking Yvette wouldn't leave now that she was here with the kids. If she tried to leave suddenly, the kids would surely cry and make a scene.
Yvette saw through Ingrid's little scheme. She coldly glanced at her and then crouched down to ask the kids gently, "Sweethearts, do you still want to play with them?"
CiCi nodded. "Mommy, are we leaving? But I want to see Niamh. She invited us."
BoBo frowned slightly. "Yes, Mommy. It's polite to say goodbye to the host before we leave."
"Alright, let's go find Niamh."
As Yvette stood up to leave, Ingrid grabbed a glass of red wine from a passing waiter.
At the moment Yvette stood, she bumped into Ingrid's arm.
The wine spilled from Ingrid's glass, splashing onto Yvette's shoulder and flowing down her white dress, staining it red.
"Mommy!" BoBo and CiCi were startled. "What are you doing, Ingrid?"
Ingrid quickly grabbed some napkins, clumsily trying to wipe the stain from Yvette's dress. "Yvette, why did you bump into me while I was holding the wine? Are you trying to blame me?"
Yvette frowned, snatching the napkins from Ingrid. They couldn't absorb the red wine.
The large wine stain on Yvette's white dress was glaring.
Ingrid, not wanting to push too far since Yvette and the kids were favored by Clifford, called over the waiter. "Hey."
The waiter, thinking Ingrid was going to blame him for the spilled wine, turned pale. "I'm sorry."
Ingrid snapped, "What are you apologizing for? I want to know if you have a clean dress for her to change into."
Ingrid sneered at Yvette.
She never wanted to acknowledge Yvette as her sister-in-law. Today, Yvette came without any makeup or fancy dress, embarrassing her and the Valdemar Family.
Fine, this was a good chance to make Yvette change out of that shabby dress.
The waiter nodded. "Yes, we have spare dresses prepared."
Yvette was worried about the kids. "BoBo, CiCi, do you want to come with Mommy to the dressing room?"
"Okay."
Yvette held the kids' hands and followed the waiter to the dressing room.
She chose a simple, plain long dress and was about to change, but hesitated, looking at the kids.
She turned to the waiter. "Can you watch the kids for a moment?"
The waiter looked troubled. "I have to get back to work..."
"Alright." Yvette let the waiter go and crouched down. "Sweethearts, Mommy is going to change. Stand by the door and keep talking to me so I know you're there, okay?"
Before the kids could respond, a deep male voice came from behind.
"I'll watch them for you."
Yvette turned to see Clifford smiling at her.
Beside him, Niamh held a lollipop. "BoBo, CiCi, welcome to my uncle's birthday party!"
