Chapter 330 Start Over, Yvette

David's sudden change threw Yvette for a loop. She still couldn't wrap her head around the fact that David had taken off to Stellaria without even giving her a heads-up.

How could a guy who could barely get out of bed suddenly decide to head back to Stellaria?

Did something happen to him? Or did he just snap?

Albert marched up to Yvette and snatched her phone.

He checked his watch. "By now, he's probably on the plane, so don't bother calling."

Albert's face was calm, his voice flat.

Yvette shook her head. "No way, how could he leave without telling me? Where did he go? Did you say something to him?"

"I told you, he went back to Stellaria alone," Albert replied.

Yvette started to panic. "Why didn't he take me and the kids? This isn't like him."

David had just been injured and was paralyzed, his emotions all over the place. She was scared he might do something drastic.

Albert said, "He went back for surgery, a risky one with only a thirty percent success rate. He was afraid Grandma and you would try to stop him, so he left on his own."

"Thirty percent? That's a huge risk! How could someone as careful as him do that?" Yvette's eyes widened in disbelief. "Did you push him into this?"

"A guy stuck in bed, what more pushing does he need?" Albert sneered. "I think you overestimate your importance to him. To David, your company means nothing. The most important thing is for him to stand up again. He left because he wants to be strong, it's that simple."

Yvette's breath hitched, holding back a sob, she asked quietly, "Which hospital in Stellaria is he at?"

Albert frowned. "What difference does it make? Are you planning to follow him?"

"Yes," Yvette said firmly. "I promised to take care of him, and I will."

Albert replied, "He doesn't need your care, why make a fool of yourself?"

Yvette let out a cold laugh, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I don't need your attention either, but hasn't that stopped you from making a fool of yourself?"

Seeing that Albert wouldn't spill David's exact location, Yvette gave up arguing and headed for the elevator.

Unable to get through on the phone, Yvette decided to send a message. As she typed, Albert followed her into the elevator. She stepped back to the farthest corner to get away from him.

Her back was pressed against the cold elevator wall, but Albert wouldn't let her go, trapping her in the elevator.

Yvette put away her phone and glared at him. "Albert, I've made myself clear, what more do you want?"

Albert stood in front of Yvette, cornering her in the elevator.

The smooth elevator walls reflected the cold white light, illuminating their faces.

Albert lowered his head, calming his emotions, and looked at Yvette with deep eyes, speaking softly, "Let's start over, Yvette. This is fate. He went back to Stellaria alone, leaving you and the kids in Luken. There's no Jessica, only my wife, Yvette."Yvette felt a bit insecure but still forced herself to say, "He must have a special reason!"

"But he knows exactly what I'd do to you without him here," Albert's deep eyes bore into hers. "He chose to leave you behind and go alone. Doesn't that mean he's given up on you?"

Yvette stiffened, opening her mouth to argue, but she couldn't—Albert's words hit too close to home.

When David was still in Luken, Albert would pull stunts to compete for Yvette right in front of him. How could David not realize that once he left, with only Yvette and the kids in Luken, Albert would seize the opportunity?

Yvette turned her head slightly. "Albert, please stay away from me. I won't be Yvette anymore. Just thinking about Yvette being your wife makes me sick."

The elevator stopped on the first floor. Taking advantage of Albert's moment of distraction, Yvette pushed him away and left the hospital with clenched fists.

After countless attempts to call David, Yvette finally got through.

The phone rang twice before it was answered, "Yvette."

Yvette was about to ask why he left without a word, but David apologized first, "Sorry, Yvette, forgive me for only telling you now."

"You're apologizing, so you know that leaving without a word was wrong, right?" Yvette tried to keep her voice calm. "David, why did you leave without telling me? Do you think I don't deserve to discuss these things with you?"

There was a long silence on the other end. "I just felt that everyone was stopping me from having this surgery. So, I was afraid you would too..."

David didn't continue.

Yvette took a deep breath. "Grandma and I would stop you because we're worried you might not survive the surgery, or that the outcome would be worse, making your life even more painful. By doing this, you make us seem like the worst people in the world."

"Yvette." David's voice was restrained but carried obvious displeasure. "Can you understand my feelings? I don't have the energy to persuade you all anymore."

She said, "But..."

David interrupted her impatiently, "Enough. Who do you think I'm lying in this bed for? I just want to have the surgery and stand up again!"

Yvette choked up, suddenly realizing that David also felt it was because of her that he was facing a lifetime of paralysis.

A wave of grievance surged in Yvette's heart. "So you think it's because of me?"

David fell silent for a long time.

His silence made Yvette's eyes finally redden. "I read the accident report, you crashed into Albert. I didn't question it and believed you because I trusted you. I really wanted to go back to Stellaria with you and start over. And you? You left without even telling me, how humiliating is that?"

"You met with Albert again?" David raised his voice. "If you two hadn't slept together, would he have deliberately told me, making me so angry that I lost control?"

David's sudden outburst made Yvette feel extremely unfamiliar.

Every word he said seemed to be accusing her.

She asked in disbelief, "So, you didn't care, was that all a lie? What about BoBo and CiCi? Did you never really accept them either, and always cared? Was your kindness to us all an act?"
