Chapter 128 Albert is Here
"Once she signs, have the lawyer follow up and wrap this up ASAP," James said, like it was just another contract.
David stared at the folder, feeling uneasy. He swallowed hard, his throat dry.
"Do we really have to do this?"
"What choice do we have?" James shot back. "The Horizon Group won't wait. If Albert doesn't get divorced soon, they're gonna marry into another family!"
David's face tightened. He gripped the folder so hard his knuckles turned white.
"It's just a marriage deal. I can do that too."
James gave him a dismissive look. "We'll need you later."
He tapped the folder, signaling the final order. "Take this to her. If she refuses, offer her money."
At noon, Yvette was at her desk when her phone rang.
"Yvette, don't forget Emily's wedding today. Bring Albert after work," her mom said.
Yvette frowned. "Mom, I told you, Albert's too busy for this."
"Did you even ask him? How do you know?" Lassie sounded annoyed. "Just ask him!"
Yvette sighed, frustrated. "I'm really busy. If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
"Ask him."
"Mom, if you keep this up, I won't go either."
Lassie fell silent. Yvette was stubborn and might really skip the wedding if she got upset. But Lassie had already told relatives they'd be there; she couldn't back out now.
After hanging up, Lassie thought for a moment and called Albert.
Albert was reviewing a report when his phone rang. Seeing it was Lassie, he answered.
"Albert, are you busy?"
Surprised, Albert replied, "Not really. What's up?"
He worried something had happened to Yvette.
"Tonight's Emily's wedding. Can you come?"
Relieved it wasn't about Yvette, Albert asked, "Does Yvette know?"
"Yes, but she said you were too busy. It's a happy occasion, though. Can you make it?"
"I'll check my schedule," Albert said, glancing at his watch. "I have a meeting, but I'll see when it ends."
"Okay, let me know."
After hanging up, Albert checked his meeting schedule. His phone rang again, this time from an unknown number. He ignored it, but the caller was persistent, using other numbers to reach him.
Albert finally answered, frowning.
James's angry voice came through. "Do I need to come to your office?"
"Is it urgent?" Albert replied coldly. "If not, don't contact me. You've managed fine all these years."
"Your uncle's hosting a charity banquet. The Valdemar family will be there. You should attend."
"I'm not interested," Albert said impatiently. "I've already given up my inheritance. No need for me to go."
"The banquet isn't about the inheritance. Just show up after work."
Thinking of Lassie's call, Albert decided to refuse. "I'm not going."
The medical center was swamped today. Yvette finished her work and rushed to Emily's wedding hotel, but rush hour traffic made her late.
She checked her phone anxiously, surprised Lassie hadn't called to nag her.
Entering the venue, Yvette was hit by the romantic atmosphere. Guests were already seated, and she scanned the room for Lassie.
Then she locked eyes with Albert. She thought, 'Why is Albert here?'
Stunned, Yvette clutched her purse strap, frozen for a moment.
Albert, in a suit, sat calmly among her relatives, exuding a unique aura. He raised his hand, signaling her over.
Yvette, hiding her surprise, walked to the seat next to him.
She stared at Albert, speechless.
Kyle, nearby, was happy to see her. Lassie smiled. "Yvette, you finally made it! Everyone's been waiting for you!"
"Sorry, I'm late. I worked overtime and got stuck in traffic," Yvette said, nodding.
Her relatives couldn't take their eyes off Albert. Seeing Yvette, they lit up.
"It's okay, the ceremony just started. We're at the guest interaction part now. Yvette, is this your husband?"
"When your mom brought him, we were confused. I heard your husband comes from a good family, but I didn't expect him to be so handsome!"
"Yes," Yvette replied awkwardly, glancing at Albert.
He smirked at her, his eyes sparkling, unusually gentle.
Feeling uneasy, Yvette turned her gaze to Emily and her husband. The host was organizing a guest interaction game.
A claw machine was brought out, and the cute toys inside quickly caught Yvette's attention. She really wanted one.
But despite everyone's enthusiasm, no one succeeded, leaving Yvette a bit disappointed.
Albert noticed her longing gaze.
As most people failed and the excitement waned, the host asked if anyone else wanted to try.
"I'll try," Albert said, surprising everyone. He didn't seem like the type to join such activities.
Yvette found it odd too; he wasn't one to seek attention. Ignoring the stares, Albert walked straight to the machine.
Maybe it was luck, but he managed to grab a toy on his first try.
