Chapter 362 I'm Sorry I Couldn't Save You Right Away
Yvette's words shocked Violet, making her eyes widen. She immediately hugged Yvette, shielding her from everyone else.
She turned around, pretending to be worried about Yvette. "Step back a bit, she needs oxygen. Go find someone to help!"
The socialite ladies, who had been in a state of chaos, finally reacted. Seeing Violet holding Yvette, they quickly stepped back and went out to find help.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Violet lowered her head and gently guided Yvette. "He's coming, he's coming soon. What do you want to say?"
Yvette's body trembled violently, her chest heaving intensely. Clutching her dress tightly, her emotions were in turmoil. Tears fell like large, broken pearls. She gasped for air, looking on the verge of suffocating.
Yvette cried out in accusation. "Why? Why exactly?"
The truth was so close, and Violet was actually a bit nervous. Her eyes were fixed on the entrance of the banquet hall, constantly monitoring the situation outside, and she kept provoking Yvette with words. "What do you mean why? Huh? Speak up!"
Yvette shook her head desperately. "Why would you rather spend $10 million to save Violet, but not spend $400,000 to save me and the child?"
Violet was stunned on the spot.
Yvette continued to plead, "Please, please, save me and the child too."
Violet instantly realized Yvette and Albert weren't as loving as they appeared and hadn't reconciled. The misunderstanding between them was deep, and Yvette still harbored a lot of resentment toward Albert.
Violet's eyes darkened with a thin layer of hatred as she recalled being beaten and dragged by the kidnappers. She thought they would beat her again, demanding to know her uncle's whereabouts.
Violet was terrified, but she didn't even have the strength to struggle. Her whole body felt only one thing: pain!
The moment the black cloth over her head was lifted, Albert appeared before her like a savior.
Violet thought Albert was really willing to spend $10 million to save her. She thought she could really defeat Yvette and stand by Albert's side as his legitimate Mrs. Valdemar.
Who would've guessed that when Albert saw it was her under the black cloth, his expression immediately changed? Despite her severe injuries, he pushed her away with one hand. She fell, hurting herself even more. In that moment, her body hurt, but her heart ached even more.
The person Albert wanted to spend $10 million to save had always been Yvette.
And the person he wouldn't even spend $400,000 to save was her, Violet!
Hearing that Yvette was in trouble, Albert's aura darkened instantly. His face fell, eyes turned icy, and he clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles showed. His jawline tensed, and his gaze held an impending storm. He lost his composure, disregarding the occasion.
Albert's eyes reddened slightly as he rushed into the banquet hall.
From a distance, Albert saw a group of socialite ladies gathered together, with Yvette trembling in the center. She sat on the ground, shoulders hunched, hair disheveled, looking utterly desolate.
Just one look, and Albert's eyes were filled with heartache. "Yvette."
Albert rushed over and hugged Yvette, but felt her body stiffen with a hint of resistance. He held her tightly, gently stroking her back, trying to comfort her. Yet, her continuous shrinking pierced his heart painfully.
Albert's deep eyes shot out two sharp, cold glances, sweeping over everyone present.
"What happened?" His voice was cold, startling everyone.
One of the socialite ladies who had gone to call him panted, pointing to a piece of black netting on the ground, explaining, "They were just playing a game, it seems to be because of this?"
The moment he saw the black netting, Albert's pupils contracted, and he instantly understood.
Yvette had lost her memory for four years because of that kidnapping, so it was imaginable how terrified she was of that incident.
The black net over her head almost recreated the scene of her being kidnapped!
Albert's eyes showed a bloodthirsty look. "Who did this?"
Kennedy, who just wanted to play a game with Yvette because she liked her, didn't expect to cause such a big trouble. She was so scared that her face turned pale, her legs went weak, and she almost knelt down."I'm sorry, Mr. Valdemar, the game was just to put a black net over the head and start catching people. I saw Yvette was quite introverted, so I wanted to play with her. I really didn't mean any harm!" said Kennedy.
Everyone knew Albert was a strong, decisive person, not someone to be trifled with.
Kennedy was so scared that she was about to cry, and seeing Yvette's intense reaction, she felt extremely guilty. "I'm really sorry!"
Albert's sharp gaze swept over Kennedy's face. "Even jokes have limits!"
Kennedy wanted to apologize again, but Albert had no patience left. Apologies were useless, and he couldn't let Yvette endure the tension any longer. Pressing his thin lips together, Albert picked Yvette up and walked through the banquet hall, heading straight to a room upstairs.
He was about to call a private doctor when Yvette stopped him.
At this moment, Yvette was already clear-headed. She slowly raised her eyes, those red and swollen eyes coldly looking at Albert, and softly interrupted, "No need, I'm fine."
Her voice was hoarse and tired, and Albert looked at her pale face, feeling extremely distressed.
He thought of what happened during the kidnapping, feeling regretful and remorseful.
After Yvette disappeared, Albert replayed the events over and over. If only he had found her sooner, things might have been different. He was too late, almost losing her forever. The harm she suffered was irreparable, her trauma permanent. He had planned everything, but never anticipated the kidnappers involving Violet.
If he had known earlier that they didn't have Yvette, he should have directly raided the kidnappers' hideout and saved her before she escaped!
Albert looked at Yvette with full of apology, saying the words he had repeated in his heart countless times, "Yvette, I'm sorry I couldn't save you in time back then."
