Chapter 267 He Finally Remembered Yvette

Yvette made a break for it.

Probably because Albert didn't think she was worth the ransom, the kidnappers had just up and left her.

Survival instincts kicked in, and Yvette didn't waste any time. She grabbed a rock and started bashing it against the side door.

After what felt like forever, the old, rusty lock finally gave way.

She didn't hesitate for a second and bolted, running like her life depended on it.

In the dark wilderness, the sounds of birds, beasts, and insects were all around her, but Yvette couldn't afford to be scared. She just kept running, not daring to look back, terrified that if she stopped, she'd be caught again.

She wasn't just running from the kidnappers; she was running from the memory of Albert refusing to pay her ransom.

Thinking about it made her heart ache.

While sprinting, Yvette stepped on a jagged rock. Near the river, the stones were slick, and she fell hard, a sharp pain shooting through her ankle.

She looked down and saw her knees were scraped and bleeding.

Adding insult to injury, she was on the verge of tears.

Then she heard the sound of men panting behind her.

"I told you to keep an eye on her, and she vanished! Are you trying to get us killed?"

"I swear, I just stepped out for a bit, and when I came back, she was gone!"

"Well, hurry up and find her. She must've seen our hideout. We can't let her go; we have to kill her!"

"Kill her? No way! Patrick didn't say that!"

"If Patrick finds out we lost her, we're dead meat. Just bury her somewhere; dead people don't talk! Besides, the Valdemar heir doesn't care about her, wouldn't even pay $400,000 to get her back. What's she worth?"

"Let's just find her first. If Patrick comes back, we're toast."

The pain in her ankle and knees was brutal, but it was nothing compared to the heartache from hearing those words.

Gritting her teeth, Yvette forced herself to get up and keep running.

Her ears were ringing, and those words kept echoing in her mind. She couldn't hold back her tears anymore.

$400,000? Albert wouldn't budge. That was just pocket change to him.

He wouldn't spend the money to save her and their child, but he shelled out $10 million to save Violet!

Yvette looked desperately into the pitch-black distance. As she tried to figure out which way to go, she heard the men shouting behind her, "She's up ahead! Quick, get her!"

Beyond the river was an open field with no cover, just some weeds, no stones or trees to hide behind.

How could a pregnant woman possibly outrun these guys?

Yvette stood on the bridge, looking back at the kidnappers getting closer and closer, and finally closed her eyes in despair.

Either way, she was going to die. If she could get downstream, maybe they wouldn't catch her.

She had to take the chance.

She clutched her belly and jumped into the river.

Albert's eyes were bloodshot as he floored the gas pedal, the car speeding along the bumpy road.

After finding out Patrick had let Violet go, Albert completely lost it.

He was relieved that the one beaten to a pulp wasn't Yvette, but at the same time, he was freaking out because it wasn't Yvette.

He was always the guy in control, and this feeling of losing it was driving him nuts.

Following Patrick and Peter's directions, Albert got to the abandoned factory where they had held people, but it was empty.

There were clear marks on the side door from being smashed by a rock, but Yvette was nowhere to be found.

Had Yvette escaped? Where could she be now?

In the wilderness at night, where could a frail woman go?

Thinking of this, Albert rushed out like a madman.

He drove along, searching for any sign of Yvette.

But the further he drove, the more his fear grew, seeing the footprints along the way. Albert could almost imagine how desperate Yvette's escape had been.

Yvette's footprints were overlapped by chaotic ones, indicating that someone was chasing her!

Albert's fingers gripped the steering wheel so tightly they turned white, his muscles tensed. No matter how angry he was, finding Yvette was the priority.

At this moment, Vincent's call came through, and Albert immediately answered.

Vincent's calm voice echoed in the car. "Mr. Valdemar, there are still two kidnappers missing. The others have been subdued. How are things on your end?"

Albert's voice was hoarse and desperate. "I haven't found her yet. It looks like she ran, and someone is chasing her."

Vincent paused for a moment. "Someone is guarding here waiting for the police. I'll bring the rest of the team to help you find Mrs. Valdemar."

Hearing the term "Mrs. Valdemar," Albert nearly broke down.

Sensing the underlying turmoil in Albert's breath, Vincent reassured him, "Don't worry, Mrs. Valdemar is lucky; she'll be fine."

Albert's mind was filled with thoughts of Yvette, not noticing the large concrete pillar ahead.

He was driving at high speed and suddenly crashed into the pillar. In an instant, his car flipped over!

The car flipped and crashed, jolting Albert's head against the steering wheel, deploying the airbag into his face, rendering him unconscious.

After an unknown amount of time, Albert slowly regained consciousness.

The car was still overturned, and outside, Vincent was frantically pounding on the window.

Albert looked at Vincent in a daze, his mind blank.

Vincent's anxious voice reached his ears. "Mr. Valdemar! Wake up! We're working on getting you out!"

Albert hadn't fully come to his senses but instinctively asked, "Where's Yvette?"

"We've sent people to look for her!"

Albert was momentarily dazed as he uttered Yvette's name. In the distance, he thought he heard her laughter, but it didn't align with his memories.

The current Yvette wasn't as lively anymore. The only time she laughed so joyfully was when she was in the countryside.

Albert's eyes widened suddenly, and his body began to tremble violently.

That countryside Yvette.

Albert's head throbbed with pain, his teeth clenched, and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Memories flooded in like a tide, overwhelming him, suffocating him.

"Hey, what's your name?"

"My name is Yvette Orlando, let's be friends!"

"You're such an idiot, come on up!"

"Tomorrow is my birthday, will you ask me out?"

"So many fireflies, how did you know I like fireflies!"

"Albert, will you come back?"

"Albert, you gotta come back!"
