Chapter 137 I've Signed the Divorce Agreement
Yvette sat on the bed, flipping through TV channels with the remote.
A week after surgery, Yvette's body was healing well. She'd numbed her emotions, acting like she wasn't really that sad.
Lost in thought in front of the TV, a knock on the door snapped her out of it.
She looked up to see David walk in.
Yvette turned off the TV and waved, "Hey, you're here?"
David smiled as he approached her bed. "How are you feeling today?"
"Pretty good," Yvette nodded, "Everything's fine."
David had found her a hospital, signed the surgery forms, arranged care, and visited daily.
For that, Yvette was grateful.
David said, "Good. The doctor called and said you can go home tomorrow."
Yvette sighed, "Yeah, the doctor told me too."
David looked at her closely, "What are your plans after that?"
Yvette gave a bitter smile. "My happy life is probably over... I lied about a business trip for a week, and they've probably caught on by now. When I go back, I'll have to deal with a lot of mess. As for the future, I'll just take it as it comes."
David said softly, "If you need any help, just let me know."
Yvette stretched lazily, "I know, but for what's coming, only I can help myself."
She exhaled slowly and turned on her phone, which had been off for a week.
Albert hadn't flown for a week.
Yvette's sudden disappearance had him on edge. His boss had talked to him several times but didn't push too hard seeing his grim face.
The boss finally said, "Get yourself together soon, or at the next big meeting, you'll get a formal reprimand."
Albert agreed, sent the boss away, and went to the window, lighting a cigarette in frustration, thinking back to that day.
He couldn't find Yvette at the Medical Evaluation Center or her home. Albert found James and learned Yvette had been sent to the hospital, so he rushed over.
By the time he arrived, Yvette had already been transferred to another hospital.
He didn't know where she was transferred.
'How could Yvette just disappear?' He wandered aimlessly around the hospital.
With no one to ask, he had to go back to find Lassie.
Lassie was puzzled. "Yvette called me, said she was sent on a business trip for a week."
Albert frowned. "A business trip? In her condition?"
"That's what I said!" Lassie said, annoyed, "But there's nothing we can do. Yvette's always been dedicated to her studies and work."
Albert had his doubts but didn't say much to Lassie and hung up.
From the call log, he found Sylvia's number and called her.
Sylvia quickly answered, "Mr. Valdemar? Have you found Yvette?"
Albert had a bad feeling. He said, "No. She told her mom she was on a business trip for a week."
"A business trip? No way!" Sylvia exclaimed, "She's about to resign and she's pregnant. They wouldn't send her on a trip."
Albert was shocked.
'Why would Yvette lie to her mom? Where did she go?' he wondered.
The cigarette in his fingers glowed and dimmed. As it burned out, he snapped back to reality and crushed the butt in the ashtray.
Thinking of that message, Albert couldn't control his emotions.
Just then, his phone vibrated. He saw "Yvette" on the screen and was shocked.
He picked up. "Yvette, where are you?!"
Yvette's voice was calm, "Let's meet."
She chose a restaurant with an elegant vibe, soft lighting, and violin music.
Albert rushed in, still in his work clothes, looking stressed.
When he saw Yvette, his eyes lit up, and he walked quickly to her.
Yvette stared at Albert. Even though she had prepared herself, her heart still raced.
Albert sat down, usually calm but now visibly uneasy.
"Yvette," he said through gritted teeth, "Where have you been?"
His deep eyes showed anger, staring intently at her.
His usually smooth facial lines were now tense.
Albert's chest heaved. "A week, and no one could reach you. Where have you been?"
Sensing his anger, Yvette pushed a glass of water towards him.
She remained calm, casually saying, "Had an abortion."
Albert was stunned, completely taken aback.
The anger on his face disappeared, replaced by shock and confusion.
After a long pause, he asked, "What did you say?"
Yvette blinked and said softly, "Did I not make myself clear? Let me say it again."
She enunciated each word, "I had an abortion, rested for a week, and now I'm fully recovered."
Albert felt like he'd been punched in the gut, not knowing what to feel.
He could only watch as Yvette tucked her hair behind her ear and sipped warm water.
Albert couldn't believe she could say this so easily.
He could barely breathe. "What do you mean by this?"
"Just drop the act," Yvette laughed, "Isn't this what you wanted? A divorce and an abortion. I just switched the order, had the abortion first."
Albert looked at her, almost not believing what he was hearing.
Before he could react, Yvette took a folder from her handbag.
She gently placed it in front of him.
She smiled with relief. "I've also signed the papers. Let's find a time to wrap things up."
