Chapter 376 He Just Stood Up
Albert's expression shifted slightly, but he only tilted his head and didn't answer.
His long eyelashes drooped, casting a shadow on his lower eyelids, obscuring his eyes and making it hard to see his expression.
Yvette knew he was being stubborn, but she also knew how devastated he was after learning the truth. She didn't want to hurt him with words anymore.
She took a deep breath, calming her emotions, and asked him, "Do you really not want me to take care of you?"
"Yeah," Albert said in a deep voice, "I don't."
"Are you mad at me?" Yvette's voice trembled slightly. "Do you think you shouldn't have gotten hurt to save them?"
Yvette's eyes filled with a thin layer of mist, afraid of hearing a confirming answer from Albert.
BoBo and CiCi were his children; she didn't want to hear him say he regretted saving them.
Albert's gaze was cold. "What good is regret? The fact is already there."
"Albert." Yvette's eyes filled with tears. "If I told you that you saved your own children, would you still feel regret?"
Albert's expression didn't change this time, and he sneered. "I never said I regretted it, so you don't need to bring up the children's parentage again. I said before that I would treat them as my own, so I naturally wouldn't regret saving them."
Yvette lowered her gaze, a bitter smile tugging at her lips. Despite saying it twice, he still didn't believe her.
Since that was the case, why should she say it again?
Yvette only said softly, "Since you don't regret it, let me stay and take care of you, okay?"
"Yvette!" Albert's eyes reddened slightly with anger. "I told you I would set you free. Follow your original plan and leave quickly!"
Yvette took a deep breath, holding back her tears. She said nothing, turned, and left the ward, closing the door behind her.
Yvette's decisive departure left Albert stunned.
Did she really leave?
She hadn't visited him for half a month, and now, after just a brief visit, she left?
Albert felt extremely frustrated, as if a heavy stone was blocking his chest, making him feel terrible.
He grabbed the documents in front of him, about to throw them on the ground, when the ward door suddenly opened again.
Yvette, who was supposed to have left, came back with a bag.
She opened the wardrobe opposite the bed, took out the clothes from the bag, folded them neatly, and put them inside.
Albert was stunned again. "What do you mean?"
"Nothing," Yvette said expressionlessly as she finished organizing the wardrobe and walked back to Albert's side, looking down at him sitting on the bed with a calm expression. "You set me free, and I accepted it, but not now."
Albert frowned slightly, staring at her.
Yvette blinked. "This freedom will stay with you for now. Return it to me when you get better."
Albert's breath hitched, looking at Yvette's determined eyes, knowing she was resolute about staying, "You..."
Albert wanted to say more, but Yvette raised her hand to cover his mouth. "I said, when you get better, I'll leave as far as I can."
After saying that, she ignored Albert's shocked expression, sat down beside his bed, and seemed determined to stay by his side.
Albert was left speechless by her words, unable to do anything about her.
In his current crippled state, he couldn't even push her away.
Looking into Yvette's clear and determined eyes, Albert thought, 'As far as she could go? If she really left me, where would she go? Would she take the two children and return to David?'
Albert's eyes brimmed with emotion, but he lowered his gaze to hide it. The words on the documents in front of him became blurry.
As night fell, Yvette pushed Albert in his wheelchair back to the ward.
Albert's face was cold, and the atmosphere around him was so oppressive that the nurses who came to change his dressing were too scared to approach.
Yvette, feeling sorry for the nurses, quickly took the medicine from them. "Leave it to me."
The nurse looked at Yvette gratefully and whispered, "Although it's almost healed, changing the dressing still requires professional skills..."
Yvette replied, "It's okay, I used to be a doctor. I'll handle it."
The nurse's eyes lit up as if she had seen a savior. "Okay, okay!"
The nurse handed the medical tray to Yvette and quickly left the room.
Yvette squatted in front of Albert, carefully rolling up his hospital gown's pant leg and removing the bandage to change his dressing. Her movements were smooth and natural, her touch gentle, causing no pain as her soft hands moved over his leg.
As she changed the dressing, Yvette asked cautiously, "Does it hurt?"
Albert's jaw muscles tightened, and he turned his head without answering.
These past few days, Yvette had been taking care of him meticulously, staying by his side without leaving, even sleeping on a folding bed.
Several times, he woke up in pain to find her carefully turning over on the folding bed, clearly uncomfortable but afraid of waking him.
Her self-sacrifice made him question himself, as she had always stayed by his side, enduring everything without complaint, but only now did he notice her efforts.
How could he deserve her dedication?
Yvette quickly finished changing Albert's dressing but didn't reapply the bandage.
She stood up slowly, her legs numb, causing her to hiss softly.
Albert's heart tightened, and he instinctively wanted to reach out to support her but pulled back his hand, continuing to feign indifference.
Yvette didn't notice his reaction, only stomping her foot and saying softly, "Wait a moment, I'll get some clean water to wipe it before reapplying the bandage."
Her walking posture was still a bit off. It wasn't until she disappeared into the bathroom that Albert finally relaxed.
Closing his eyes, the veins on his forehead bulging, he felt like he couldn't hold on much longer. With her by his side, he had an overwhelming urge to hold her in his arms every moment.
A sudden cry of alarm came from the bathroom, and Albert tensed up, instinctively using his legs.
"What..." Albert suddenly froze as he stood up.
The next second, pain shot through his fractured leg, and he fell back into the wheelchair.
As the pain subsided, Albert was still in a daze.
Did he just stand up?
