Chapter 275 My Wife, Still Alive
The night was getting darker, and the living room was pitch black.
Albert stood by the big floor-to-ceiling window, the cigarette in his hand glowing, highlighting his sharp, cold features.
The ashtray in front of him was already filled with cigarette butts.
The day after tomorrow would commemorate four years since Yvette vanished, known as Yvette's memorial day.
Thinking about it, a pain deeper than the night filled Albert's intense eyes.
He refused to accept Yvette's death, yet his fruitless search for her continued. Each moment without her felt like agony.
Tonight was another sleepless night.
The senior managers of the Valdemar Group sat in the conference room, glancing at their watches with somber faces, the silence thick with unspoken tension.
Over the past three years, Albert had become more ruthless and decisive in handling company matters. He never minced words; anything or anyone jeopardizing the Valdemar Group's interests faced swift action, spreading fear within the company.
Yet, his decisions were impressively accurate and precise, almost never making a mistake.
Within three years, the Valdemar Group had soared to new heights under his guidance.
Albert was late, but he never made people wait in vain.
Sure enough, half an hour late, Albert strode into the conference room, his powerful presence instantly making the previously displeased individuals straighten up.
Vincent followed behind him, placing a folder in front of him after he sat down.
In a low tone, Albert announced, "We've just inked a preliminary deal with the Morgan Group. It's a short-term win, but a significant breakthrough."
The room fell silent; partnering with the Morgan Group was no easy feat.
Could it be that Albert agreed to a marriage alliance?
Albert's icy gaze scanned the room, prompting everyone to avert their eyes.
With a wave of his hand, he motioned for Vincent to take the lead in detailing the plan and delegating tasks.
In just an hour, the entire plan was clearly explained, and everyone's eyes were filled with a desire to strive.
Vincent glanced at Albert, thinking to himself, 'As expected of Albert.'
After the meeting, Albert swiftly returned to his office and delved into the next task without skipping a beat.
Vincent looked at the schedule and then at Albert from a distance, feeling a pang of sympathy.
Since Yvette went missing, Albert had thrown himself into work like a madman, like a perpetual motion machine that didn't need rest or sleep.
Vincent had never seen a man work so desperately; no matter how late he called, he could always hear the sound of typing on the other end.
Suddenly, Albert looked up, his cold eyes sweeping over him. "Speak."
Vincent, looking embarrassed, walked up to Albert and said with a stiff expression, "Rebecca from the Morgan Group is here."
Hearing the name "Rebecca," Albert's eyes narrowed, a layer of coldness covering them. "Who let her in?"
She showed up today as the Morgan Group's rep for our collaboration," Vincent explained, looking concerned. "We can't just kick her out, can we?"
Albert said coldly, "Why not?"
Vincent felt stuck. "Sir, you've already turned down Rebecca face-to-face, and she wasn't pleased. Securing this partnership wasn't a walk in the park. You..."
Before Vincent could finish, Albert's eyes grew sharper. "You and my uncle tricked me into thinking it was a business deal, but it was a blind date. Who gave you the courage?"
Vincent felt a chill run down his spine. The Valdemar family was prestigious, and while they respected Albert's abilities, they were always eyeing his position as heir, scheming both openly and secretly.
To solidify Albert's position, Willard had set up a blind date with Rebecca Morgan from the Morgan Group.
But everyone knew Albert's heart was with Yvette, and he would never go for it, so they disguised the blind date as a business meeting.
Of course, sharp as ever, Albert saw right through it and shut it down immediately.
Rebecca, with her high status and pampered upbringing, couldn't handle the rejection and stormed off.
They thought that was the end of it, but Albert still managed to secure the deal with the Morgan Group against all odds.
Vincent quickly backed off and reminded, "Your uncle also mentioned that the connection with the Morgan family was because Ms. Morgan's father knew your mother."
Albert frowned. "Let her in."
Rebecca still had that haughty attitude, not even bothering to knock before pushing the door open and walking in.
Her curly hair flowed down to her hips, her makeup was flawless, and she had a wild beauty. She was tall and wore high heels.
Rebecca walked up to Albert, glaring down at him. "What took you so long?"
Albert's eyes were full of impatience. "If you don't want to wait, you can leave."
Rebecca immediately got angry. "Albert, you're going too far!"
Albert sneered. "If you're not here to discuss the cooperation project, then I'm sorry, I won't see you out."
"I ain't here for business." Rebecca circled the desk, seizing Albert's arm. "I need to know why you won't give us a shot?"
Vincent, standing behind them, was terrified, wanting to step forward but not daring to act rashly.
The next second, Albert had already shaken off her hand and slowly stood up, like a lion stretching its body. "Because I have a wife."
Rebecca's height was instantly overshadowed, and she said disdainfully, "Wife? Albert, you need a reality check. A guy like you, whose wife is out of the picture, should be grateful I'm even here."
Albert's eyes, once devoid of emotion, now brimmed with a fierce, unyielding anger.
"Take back what you said."
"What?"
Albert said word by word, "My wife is still alive."
David's Adam's apple bobbed as he looked at Yvette in front of him with a determined gaze, feeling a bit flustered.
At first, he was afraid Yvette would remember, but now, he couldn't tell if he didn't want her to get hurt again or if he didn't want this dream-like beautiful life to be shattered by an accident.
The Yvette in front of him still hadn't opened her heart to accept him.
Despite believing they were once married with twins, she insisted on sleeping in separate rooms and couldn't accept physical contact.
She remained distant from him.
David had thought many times about simply taking her forcefully, making her body accept him, get used to him, and make her completely believe they were a normal, loving couple.
But Yvette, in his heart, was always the girl he had longed for since his youth, so pure and unblemished, he couldn't bear to desecrate her.
He wanted to take revenge on Albert, but he couldn't hurt Yvette.
David tugged at the corner of his mouth and said in a hoarse voice, "You are my wife, I respect all your decisions. If you want to return to Luken, we will go back."
Yvette's eyes flickered. "Thank you."
