Chapter 177 Current Husband
David quickly buttoned up, a flicker of unease crossing his face.
Albert's aura turned even icier when he saw David's expression. He repeated the same question, "Where's Yvette?"
David caught the terrifying look in Albert's eyes and knew there was a misunderstanding. He kept his cool and asked, "You're looking for Yvette? Come on in and wait for her."
He stepped aside, making room for Albert to enter.
To Albert, this seemed almost like a challenge. His jaw clenched, and he stared at David like a leopard ready to pounce.
David, however, didn't seem to care and walked straight inside, not bothering to see if Albert followed.
"David," Albert said coldly, his eyes full of mockery, "Yvette asked you for help, and you think you can actually help her? How dare you agree to help Yvette?"
"Uncle isn't just your uncle," David replied calmly, turning back, "This is about Yvette's mom. Even if Uncle doesn't like me, I'll find a way for Yvette's sake."
"And what did Yvette offer you in return?" Albert's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. "Did she..."
Before Albert could finish, the door opened, and Yvette walked out, looking embarrassed.
"David, this shirt is too big, it doesn't fit. Maybe I should just forget it," Yvette said, looking up and meeting Albert's fierce gaze.
Yvette froze, standing there in David's oversized shirt, unaware that the collar had slipped below her shoulders.
The black strap of her bra and the pale cleavage of her chest struck Albert like a blow. She even spoke to David in an intimate tone.
.
Yvette felt the chill on her chest, looked down, and was mortified. She quickly pulled up the shirt collar.
She blinked, trying to act like she hadn't seen Albert, and turned to ask David, "Where's the hairdryer? I'll dry my clothes and change back."
David brought the hairdryer from the bathroom and offered. "Let me help you dry them."
Albert's face darkened, and Yvette quickly refused, "I'll do it myself."
Just then, David's phone rang. It was James.
Frowning, David said, "Sorry, I need to take this."
David went into the secondary bedroom, his brow furrowed. James calling at this time couldn't be good.
David answered the phone, and sure enough, James was yelling, "Where are you?"
"I'm at the hotel, dealing with some unfinished business," David replied.
"Get back here now, the situation at the Valdemar Group is a mess. How are you managing things?" James hollered, "I brought you back from abroad to solve problems, not to make them worse, got it?"
David's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. The problems at the Valdemar Group had been there long before he came back. James had hoped he could fix them. He'd been busting his butt, but his efforts always seemed to fall short.
He didn't expect things to go south again after just half a day away.
David raised his hand and rubbed his temple, saying, "I get it, I'll be back soon."
Yvette felt Albert's intense gaze, making her super uncomfortable.
She lowered her eyes, thinking about going into the bedroom to change, but Albert's piercing stare made her hesitate. That was David's bedroom.
As the two stood in a stalemate, David hurried out of the secondary bedroom.
He looked anxious and walked over to Yvette. "Yvette, there's an emergency at the company, I need to go back, but it shouldn't take long."
Yvette nodded. "It's okay, you go ahead."
"Wait for me," David said, glancing at his watch, "I'll try to come back early to help you with your mom's transfer."
"That's not necessary," a cold voice interrupted. Albert looked at them coldly, saying, "Yvette's husband is not you."
Yvette was stunned, Albert's aggressive words leaving her momentarily speechless.
Quickly, Yvette shook off her shock and came back to her senses. She blinked and said to David, "You've already helped a lot today. If you have something to do, go ahead, it's fine."
David's gaze shifted between the two, full of worry, but he had to leave.
As David hurriedly left, the room fell into an eerie silence.
Yvette sat on the sofa, plugged in the hairdryer, and began to dry her washed clothes.
The sound of the hairdryer filled the room, and Yvette, under Albert's gaze, slowly dried her clothes.
Yvette pretended Albert didn't exist the entire time, and after changing back into her clothes in the bathroom, she still felt a bit awkward.
She turned her back to Albert, adjusting her clothes.
Suddenly, Albert's voice came from behind, "Yvette, I'm standing right here, and you're still pretending nothing happened?"
Yvette wondered if there was something wrong with her ears, as she heard a tone in Albert's voice she had never heard before.
Yvette looked up at Albert, puzzled. "What happened?"
"You just go to David?" Albert questioned, looking at her incredulously.
Yvette looked at Albert with restraint. "My mom's situation is dire, I have to find someone to help."
"So you go to David?" Albert said through gritted teeth, "Yvette, we are not divorced yet. Please remember, you are still my wife!"
"I am your wife," Yvette said helplessly, "but my current husband won't help me. Should I just watch my mom die?"
Albert's eyes filled with rage as he heard current husband, growing even angrier. "You really think David can help you? You shouldn't ask him for help!"
Looking at Albert, Yvette answered, "Albert, if you won't help me, then don't interfere with whom I turn to for help."
