Chapter 226 You Two Will Get Divorced.
Linda leaned in, breaking down the document's terms for Yvette, making sure she got the gist of it.
Yvette was a bit spaced out, her eyes kept wandering to Linda, but she tried hard to stay focused.
Albert was watching Yvette closely, catching every little change in her expression. His eyes had this mysterious glint.
He smirked, got up, and strolled over to sit on the sofa across from Yvette.
Yvette glanced at him, looking a bit uneasy. After Linda finished explaining, she nodded and signed the papers without asking anything.
Albert raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised, "Not gonna ask for details before signing?"
"No need," Yvette replied, shaking her head. "It's all about Hayden's estate, no need to dig deeper."
These inheritances didn't concern Yvette; she had no feelings for Hayden and had only met him once, so she didn't feel entitled to the estate.
Whatever Albert wanted, however he needed her signature as his wife, she would cooperate.
As Linda, the secretary, straightened up and took back the documents, Yvette, who had been holding her breath a bit, finally relaxed.
Linda's scent made Yvette a bit uneasy.
Albert's sharp eyes were glued to Yvette, noting all her actions. He pursed his lips and told Linda, "Bring them over, let me take a look."
"Okay," Linda's tone perked up a bit.
Even such a simple phrase sounded flirtatious to Yvette. She frowned unconsciously.
She frowned without realizing it.
Oblivious, Linda walked over to Albert, holding the documents and leaning in close as she showed him each signature.
Their proximity made Yvette squirm, but Albert didn't seem to mind. He even looked up to talk to Linda, meeting her gaze several times, making her cheeks flush.
Yvette swallowed, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
She finally couldn't take it anymore, stood up, and told Albert, "I have something to do. Since I've signed the documents, I'll head out now."
Albert casually lifted his eyelids and replied, "Okay."
Then he went back to checking the signatures with Linda.
Yvette's eyes dimmed as she turned and left the office without saying another word.
The moment the office door closed, Albert's face turned cold. He snatched the documents from Linda's hand, saying without any emotion, "That's enough, I'll look by myself. You can leave."
Linda was a bit stunned by his sudden change in attitude. "Mr. Valdemar?"
Albert glanced at the closed office door, instantly losing interest. He said coldly, "Get out!"
Linda answered, "Okay."
In the Valdemar Group, James's office.
David stood in front of James's desk.
His expression was serious, and his brows furrowed. He said, "Dad, I just need control of that project. I've been running it since its inception overseas."
"So what?" James looked at him discontentedly, saying, "You think I want this? You're more obedient than Albert, but Hayden favored him and was willing to leave the inheritance to him. If you want to argue about it, take it up with Hayden. Don't bother me."
David took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool, and explained again, "I don't want the inheritance."
"I know you just want this project, but the inheritance is in Albert's hands, and it needs his approval, got it?"
James grabbed a document from the file rack and tossed it in front of David, saying impatiently, "See for yourself. Albert personally signed it, rejecting your application. It's that simple."
James's words crushed the little hope David had left.
He looked down at the document, seeing Albert's signature, and felt a wave of hopelessness wash over him.
David had come back to the Valdemar family to protect their position within the family. Over the years, he had swallowed his pride, endured the rift with Albert, and even the Martinez family's rejection.
David had put up with years of sneers and disdain from the Valdemars. Yet, he had borne it all with resilience.
He'd done it all to safeguard what rightfully belonged to Albert, so that when Albert decided to return, he'd have something left.
And this was the result. Albert was the heir, while he couldn't even hold onto the projects he'd managed for years.
David clenched his fists, his eyes turning cold, saying, "I'll go find him."
David knocked on Albert's office door, and Albert looked up, giving him a cold glance as he asked, "What do you want?"
"Why did you transfer my project to someone else?" David's jaw tightened as he demanded, "I've worked on this project for years, it's my hard work."
"No reason. I found someone more suitable," Albert said indifferently. "You won't be without a project, Mr. Valdemar."
David understood the implication in Albert's words.
Since they looked identical, without speaking, almost no one could tell them apart at first glance. To avoid awkwardness, everyone would directly call them "Mr. Valdemar."
Sharing the same title was something they had been unaccustomed to since childhood as twins.
David stared at Albert, questioning, "Is it really because you found someone better, or just because it's my project?"
Albert replied casually, "Believe what you want."
David's chest heaved, saying, "Whether you believe it or not, I returned to the Valdemar family not for the money or the inheritance you think I betrayed you for. I came back so that when you finally decide to come home, you'll have something left. It's what Sarah wanted. We shouldn't lose what's ours because of this…hatred."
"You always say the same thing," Albert uttered, shaking his head. "But you've been working yourself to the bone for the Valdemars all these years. Is it really just for me?"
"Yes."
"Stop making excuses for your greed," Albert sneered. "I don't believe you."
"If you don't believe me, ask Yvette." David remarked with a hint of provocation. "She understands."
Albert's expression darkened. "David, are you saying my wife understands you? I'm warning you, don't overstep."
David uttered, "You two are going to get divorced."
Albert sneered, "Who says?"
