Chapter 77 You Want to Quit?
The late-night flights were the hardest, because after flying, they still have to stay overnight at the destination.
Late at night, the crew dragged their luggage into the hotel.
The hotel was brightly lit. Albert, who was leading the group, took the room key and went straight to the hotel elevator, swiping his card to go upstairs without saying a word.
Usually, Steve would want to stay as far away from Albert as possible, but seeing Albert's calm demeanor and his expressionless face, he jogged a few steps and squeezed in before the elevator doors closed.
Steve watched Albert through the elevator's mirrored wall. Lately, Albert seemed to be in a bad mood every day, but today he appeared much calmer.
Steve cautiously asked, "Did you make up with Dr. Orlando?"
After being ridiculed by his friends last time, Steve was even more convinced that only he knew about Albert's feelings for Dr. Orlando.
If Albert didn't like Dr. Orlando, he wouldn't be so emotionally affected by her.
Steve's question earned him a warning glance from Albert.
Steve knew he shouldn't have spoken out of turn, but he felt Albert was the kind of person who was great at flying planes but not so good at dealing with women.
And dealing with women was Steve's forte.
He couldn't bear to see Mr. Valdemar troubled by emotional matters.
As the elevator slowly ascended, Steve thought for a moment and turned to remind Albert as the elevator dinged to his floor.
"Send her a message after you land and buy some gifts when you get back. Girls might like that."
Without waiting for another warning glance from Albert, Steve quickly dragged his luggage out of the elevator.
Teaching theory was one thing; practice was up to Albert himself.
Even though it was late, Albert still worked out before showering and resting. Lying in bed, he planned to sleep but suddenly recalled Steve's words as he got off the elevator.
'Send Yvette a message?'
Albert picked up his phone and opened the chat with Yvette. He scrolled up lightly, looking at their previous conversations.
The dull conversations didn't resemble those of a married couple, not even colleagues.
Albert frowned slightly, his thumb about to touch the keyboard, but then he lifted his hand and pressed the lock screen button.
This wasn't something he would do.
If a pilot couldn't land safely, it would be newsworthy, and there was no need to specifically tell her he had landed safely.
Sending such a message would seem like he was looking for something to say.
It would make him appear deliberate, and given Yvette's current hostility towards him, she would definitely think he had some ulterior motive.
He didn't want to create trouble for himself.
Working at the same company, he had plenty of opportunities to say what he wanted.
He tossed his phone aside and forced himself to close his eyes.
Yvette was on duty, sitting alone in the clinic, with hot coffee still steaming.
Ever since she came to North Airlines for Albert, it seemed like her life only revolved around Albert.
Yvette smiled self-deprecatingly. Sylvia always said she had her own ideas, but her ideas had led her into such an embarrassing situation.
Just thinking about it made her feel ashamed.
At that moment, Yvette's phone vibrated slightly. She picked it up and saw a message from Mr. Wilson, whom she hadn't contacted in a long time.
Yvette casually opened it.
Mr. Wilson: [Yvette, good afternoon. It's been a while. After seeing you last time, I inadvertently heard about your recent circumstances from some classmates, and felt the need to get in touch. I recall back in school, you couldn't bear anatomy class. The sight and smell of human tissues made you queasy, and you even had a fear of blood. A number of teachers questioned whether such a sensitive girl could ever become a competent surgeon. Yet, you proved us all wrong and emerged as one of the top students, surpassed only by Wyatt.]
[When I think back to your school days, it's hard for me to remain composed. I realize it's not entirely appropriate for me as your former teacher to say this, but you didn't appear to be happy the last time we met.]
[Yvette, there's more to life than just love. I believe when you surmounted both physical and psychological hurdles to become a skilled surgeon, you truly grasped the essence of life. I hope you can remember your original aspiration.]
[If you decide to return to being a surgeon, I will personally write you a recommendation letter. Center Hospital still needs talent.]
By the time Yvette finished reading, she was already in tears.
As the sun set, the clinic was brightly lit by the afterglow.
Yvette was typing her resignation letter on the computer when Sylvia walked in with her bag.
"Yvette, let's go. It's time to clock out."
Yvette nodded and prepared to shut down the computer.
Sylvia curiously glanced at the screen and was stunned. She asked puzzled, "Are you resigning?"
Yvette nodded. "Yes, I have the idea, so I'm writing the resignation letter first."
Mr. Wilson's message had finally hit the mark.
She had come to North Airlines irrationally for love, and now it was time to end things with Albert. After much thought, she decided to resign from North Airlines and return to her passion and dreams.
Yvette was so calm that it surprised Sylvia.
"Mr. Hughes mentioned that they've already brought on new hires, and our group is just about to start taking breaks. You're thinking of resigning now?" Sylvia asked in amazement.
Yvette smiled lightly and remained silent.
Seeing her peaceful smile, Sylvia suddenly understood. "Did you make up with Albert and decide to become a full-time housewife?"
With this thought, Sylvia gently reminded her, "Even though Albert is capable and can support you and the children, it's important for a woman to have her own career and self-confidence. For a woman of your talents, it would be a waste to be just a full-time housewife."
Sylvia's words made Yvette sigh helplessly, stopping her imagination.
"No, Sylvia." Yvette turned and looked at Sylvia seriously. "I want to go back to being a surgeon. Mr. Wilson said that he'd write me a recommendation letter to return to the Central Hospital if I wanted to go back."
Sylvia was stunned. "Are you out of your mind? The Central Hospital is notorious for its overtime; it's grueling. If you're considering a move, Wyatt's place would be a much better choice!"
Yvette smiled. "The Central Hospital's surgery department is better."
Sylvia couldn't find any words to refute Yvette. She knew that Yvette, despite her lack of expressiveness and seemingly weak demeanor, was resolute. Once she made a decision, it couldn't be swayed by a few words. Continuing to argue would only annoy her.
Sylvia felt a bit reluctant but couldn't change Yvette's mind, so she sighed deeply. "Does Albert know about your resignation?"
Yvette paused for a moment while shutting down the computer and then said lightly, "He doesn't need to know."
