Chapter 98 Who is Lying

Albert frowned. "What  inscription? What did you see?"

Victor hesitated. The letters "YO" were on the tip of his tongue, but he remembered Violet's words. "YO" might not mean Yvette. If it wasn't about Yvette, he'd be misleading Albert.

"You should find out yourself. There are things between you two that I don't know about, so you need to confirm it."

Albert's expression darkened, his eyes heavy with concern. "Are you saying the engraving has nothing to do with Violet?"

Victor looked troubled. "I can't be sure. I can only tell you there are engravings on it. You should take a look and think it over."

Victor didn't dare say more, made an excuse, and left.

Watching Victor leave, Albert looked at the nearly burnt-out cigarette between his fingers and stubbed it out.

Suddenly reminded of the necklace, Albert's brow twitched, and he lit another cigarette.

He and Violet were indeed connected because of that necklace.

Back then, seeing that necklace made him feel a sense of familiarity with Violet. That feeling was so peculiar that even though he had lost his memory, the warmth of it remained clear.

After the incident at home, he felt intense loneliness, and it was Violet who provided him comfort and warmth, giving him reasons and motivation to keep going.

But now Victor suspected he had mistaken someone?

Not Violet?

Albert suddenly realized he had never considered this possibility.

But if it wasn't Violet, who could it be?

Albert exhaled slowly, the smoke blurring his vision.

It seemed he did need to confirm it.

Violet dragged her suitcase off the plane, walked through the passage, and turned a corner to see a man standing nearby.

The moment the man saw her, he glanced at his watch and walked straight towards Violet.

Seeing Albert's tall and broad figure approaching, Violet's breath momentarily halted.

She had forgotten how long it had been since Albert had walked towards her like this.

Since Victor came to find her, Violet's heart had been uneasy. She pressed her lips together and met Albert's indifferent gaze, feeling a sense of inevitability.

Albert stopped in front of her. "Can we talk?"

The two stood on a tree-lined path outside the airport, speckled with light.

Violet felt a bit dazed; it was as if she was back to the day Albert put the necklace on her, the day her heart was moved.

But unfortunately, everything was different now.

Facing each other, Violet raised her hand to shield her face from a beam of light, blocking out the halo. "Mr. Valdemar, why are you coming to me? Aren't you afraid your wife will misunderstand?"

Violet's voice sounded relaxed, with a faint smile, as if she didn't care about what Albert had said before.

Albert stood in front of Violet, saying nothing, just silently staring at the necklace on her chest.

His gaze was so direct that Violet couldn't hide or change the topic.

Under his intense gaze, the smile on Violet's face gradually faded. She took a deep breath and met Albert's serious eyes.

"If you have something to say, just say it."

Albert nodded, his thin lips parting slightly. "Can I see the necklace?"

Violet's expression shifted. "What for?"

"I need to confirm something," Albert repeated, his tone firmer this time, leaving no room for refusal.

Violet blinked, a self-mocking smile tugging at her lips, her eyes instantly reddening. "Okay."

She turned slightly, lowering her head, indicating for Albert to take off the necklace himself.

Albert frowned. "Take it off yourself."

Violet's eyes flickered, and she finally raised her hand to remove the necklace. Her movements were gentle, still treating it like a treasure, holding it in her palm and passing it to Albert. "Take a look."

Albert took the necklace, turned his back to the sunlight, and looked closely.

On the way there, Albert had thought about Victor's earlier question, if he knew anyone with the initials "YO."

The moment he saw the engraving on the necklace, the doubt in Albert's heart vanished.

"VS".

It was the initials of Violet Swift.

Albert clenched his hand, gripping the necklace tightly, his emotions stirred, though he didn't show it at all.

As he looked up, he met Violet's tear-filled eyes.

Violet's voice trembled as she asked, "Did Victor tell you?"

Albert said nothing, but his silence implicitly agreed.

"I knew he would tell you everything, so I deliberately made him suspicious. At first, I was confident that the years and experiences between us wouldn't change because of this necklace. But Albert, you coming to me like this, not trusting me, makes me feel like you want to erase even our beautiful memories."

A gentle breeze blew, and Violet raised her hand to wipe away her tears. "I know we broke up, and I know you said you wouldn't get back together with me, so you definitely won't look back. But I still hope you can leave me the chance to keep those beautiful memories, can you?"

Albert's thin lips pressed into a straight line, the deep sense of detachment in his eyes almost overwhelming Violet.

After a long time, Violet finally heard Albert's faint apology. "Sorry."

Seeing Albert's call coming in, Victor finally breathed a sigh of relief. He should be able to sleep well now.

"So, did you see the letters on it?"

"Yes." Albert's voice seemed distant, calm yet far away. "It's 'VS.'"

"VS!" Victor was instantly confused, beginning to doubt his own memory. "That's impossible, right?"

"I saw it with my own eyes."

Hanging up the phone, the more Victor thought about it, the more something felt off. He clearly heard someone say it was "YO," how did it suddenly become "VS"?

Holding his phone, Victor hesitated for a moment before dialing out.

After a short while, the call connected.

A somewhat unfamiliar voice came from the other end, and Victor chatted briefly before carefully asking his question.

"The broken necklace my friend and I brought over last time, do you remember what letters were engraved on it?"

Like waiting for a verdict, Victor held his breath.

The repairman's voice came through the receiver.

"Oh, that one, it had VS engraved on it."
