Chapter 113 You Lied to Me
Albert felt like he was just being spiteful in the end.
Under Yvette's cold stare, he sneered, gritting his teeth. "Yeah, it's not important. Even it's you, it doesn't matter. If you haven't remembered it all these years, it must not be a big deal."
He'd heard from Yvette's mom that she was coming to see Wayne, and worried about her being alone, he tagged along.
Thinking back now, he felt like an idiot. What kind of dumb stuff had he been doing lately?
Albert stormed off, not even glancing back.
So, he didn't see Yvette behind him, biting her lip so hard it almost bled.
Ever since she found out the necklace belonged to Yvette, Violet hadn't slept well.
Yvette had hit her where it hurt most; she was scared Albert would remember everything.
She couldn't let Albert keep getting closer to Yvette. If this kept up, he'd remember sooner or later.
Driving from home, Violet headed straight to Albert's place.
She smoothly punched in the password and pressed the door handle.
An error beep sounded.
Violet stepped back, surprised.
Did she enter it wrong?
She reached out to try again, but the door opened from the inside.
Violet looked up. "Albert!"
Albert stood there in dark gray pajamas, one hand on the door handle, his tall frame blocking the entrance, clearly not wanting her to come in.
"What are you doing here?"
Violet was flustered. "Did you change your password?"
"Yeah." Albert frowned. "Do you need something?"
"I just wanted to see you. Can you let me in?" Violet tried to stay calm. "Even if we're just friends, you can't change the door lock password and not let me in, right?"
"You came to see me?" Albert's eyes were cold. "To see if I remembered the necklace isn't yours, right?"
Violet looked up, shocked. "You remembered?"
"Since you know the necklace isn't yours, give it back." Albert paused. "No, restore the engraving first, then give it back."
Violet was stunned. Albert not only knew everything but also knew she had altered the engraving.
She felt a lump in her throat, her lower lip trembling. Her eyes stung, tears welling up. The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. "Albert, are you really this heartless?"
Violet stared at Albert with tear-filled eyes, but she still gritted her teeth, refusing to let the tears fall. "Even if I'm not the girl who was with you that summer, was your love for me fake? Were all the good times we had fake?"
"Don't bring up the past again!" Albert's gaze was icy, sending chills down her spine.
"You lied to me," he said. "I approached you with feelings from childhood, you should know that best!"
"But the love we had over these years, was that fake too?"
Albert's eyes were cold, looking down at her. "You don't deserve to talk to me about it. You know very well where that love came from."
Albert looked at her with disdain. "Now, I only feel disgust and revulsion towards you, just like I would towards a liar."
Hearing Albert's words, Violet felt like she had been hit in the head with a hammer. Her brain couldn't think, only feeling pain and a bitter, swelling sensation filling her chest.
Violet bit her lower lip until it turned white, then raised her hand and slapped Albert.
The slap was crisp and short.
Albert's head turned slightly from the slap, and after a couple of seconds, he slowly turned back.
A red handprint appeared on his face, but his eyes stayed calm, his lips curling slightly.
"With that slap, we're even."
"Don't you dare!" Big tears fell from Violet's eyes, landing on her trembling hand.
Violet couldn't accept this cruel reality. She hysterically questioned, "Did Yvette tell you? She just wants to see me humiliated! I'm going to find her and get to the bottom of this!"
Violet wiped the tears from her cheeks and turned to leave.
"Stop right there!" Albert pushed the door open, took two steps forward, and grabbed Violet's wrist.
He looked down at her, his gaze filled with obvious anger and warning. "If you trouble Yvette again, you'll regret it."
Albert's protective expression appeared once more.
Unconditionally, loyally, exclusively, giving a strong sense of security.
But it was no longer for Violet.
---
At the airport, Albert, in uniform, walked inside with his suitcase.
His phone rang, displaying an unfamiliar number. Albert instinctively frowned.
Lately, all the unknown calls were from the Valdemar family, each one making Albert very angry, causing him to be wary of unknown numbers.
"Who is it?"
"Albert, it's me."
Albert paused, the frown deepening, his whole demeanor darkening.
It was David.
Sure enough, someone from the Valdemar family.
"What do you want?" Albert's voice was hard, clearly displeased.
"My flight just landed at your airport," David's voice was gentle, with a slight smile. "Can we meet?"
"No need," Albert refused decisively. "I'm about to fly out. That's it."
With that, Albert didn't give David a chance to respond and hung up the phone.
---
Violet saw "Albert" on the flight schedule and couldn't help but grip her phone.
It seemed fate and the company were giving her a chance to explain.
Last night, she lost control and slapped Albert. They already had many misunderstandings, and now their relationship was even more strained.
She had to explain to him that she acted impulsively out of anxiety yesterday.
Violet was walking hurriedly and didn't notice a man in a sharp black suit in front of her, accidentally kicking his suitcase.
She was about to apologize when she realized it was Albert.
He stood straight, his chiseled face calm, showing no displeasure at his suitcase being kicked.
Seeing Violet looking at him, he just nodded slightly and walked past her, as if he didn't know her at all.
He was still wearing a suit, not his uniform. Wasn't he supposed to be flying?
Violet was stunned and instinctively grabbed his arm. "Albert!"
He was taken aback, looking at his arm being held, then at Violet.
Violet, seeing his unfamiliar and inexplicable expression, earnestly explained, "I didn't mean it last night. Please don't be mad at me, okay? I'll do anything to make it up to you, just don't ignore me."
He smiled helplessly, patting the back of Violet's hand. "Sorry, miss, you have the wrong person."
"Albert," Violet's eyes lowered slightly, "Are you lying just to get rid of me?"
He smiled, not annoyed at being mistaken. He was about to explain when he saw a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye.
He looked up and saw Yvette walking by with a medical kit.
Even after so long, he could still spot Yvette in a crowd instantly.
His eyes lit up, and he raised his voice. "Yvette!"
Yvette turned around, her eyes confused until her gaze fell on him.
Yvette was stunned. "David?"
