Chapter 468 Whatever You Do to Yvette, I’ll Return a Hundredfold
Albert's usually composed face instantly tensed.
His deep eyes fixed on the silent television, his chest felt as if crushed by a boulder, rendering him speechless.
The police officer's voice came through the phone, "Hello? Mr. Valdemar, are you there? Is this your vehicle?"
"Yes," Albert replied, his voice hoarse, suppressing the tumultuous emotions crashing within him.
He mechanically finished the conversation and hung up.
His eyes bloodshot, even his breathing became erratic.
Vincent, standing nearby, sensed something was wrong. He turned toward the television and immediately paled.
"Mr. Valdemar, please don't worry. I'll look into this right away."
Albert drew a deep breath, but each inhale felt like needles piercing his chest.
He didn't respond to Vincent, instead, with trembling hands, he dialed Yvette's number. He silently prayed, 'Please, pick up...'
Only when Yvette's voice came through did Albert's constricted heart resume its normal rhythm.
"It's me," Yvette said shakily. "Has something happened?"
Albert's brow furrowed, his thin lips pressed together as the emotion in his eyes quickly gave way to rationality.
"Yes, your driver was in an accident. The police have notified me."
A few seconds of silence followed on the other end. "I was going to take the children home in that car. Thank God... my children..."
Hearing Yvette's tearful voice, Albert closed his eyes, desperately wishing he could hold her and the children in his arms right now, comforting them.
He clenched his fists, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. "I'm just glad you're all safe. I'll handle everything else."
Albert ended the call, his eyes now cold and merciless, chilling to behold.
He turned to Vincent. "Find someone to investigate the cause of the accident."
"Right away, Mr. Valdemar."
As Vincent was about to leave, Albert spoke again, "He drove for the Valdemar family for over fifteen years. If the accident wasn't his fault, ensure his family is taken care of for the rest of their lives."
"Understood."
Watching her children playing happily in the living room, completely unaware, Yvette felt a wave of dread.
The car involved in the accident was indeed the one that regularly transported her and the children.
If she had picked up the children and asked the driver to wait instead of sending him home early...
If the car had lost control and caught fire then, she and both children would surely have met a tragic fate.
Yvette felt ice-cold. She curled up on the sofa, hugging herself tightly, overwhelmed by the feeling of having narrowly escaped death.
Suddenly, warm arms enveloped her.
Yvette stiffened, about to instinctively pull away when Albert's voice reached her ears, "Don't be afraid. It's me."
His voice was deep and rough, yet provided immense comfort.
Yvette didn't dare look up at him, fearing tears would spill the moment she did.
She leaned her full weight against Albert, drawing from his warmth and strength.
Albert raised his hand, gently stroking the top of Yvette's head. "It's alright. I'm here."
Yvette nodded against his chest.
She trusted him.
He would protect her, wouldn't he?
It was now late at night.
Violet tugged at her scarf, pulled up her coat hood, concealing her face in darkness.
She emerged from a quiet alley, vigilantly looking around to ensure no one was following before getting into her car.
The streets were nearly empty at this hour. Violet exhaled deeply.
She had just met with the man who had sabotaged Yvette's regular car.
Violet cursed under her breath. Despite Yvette not being in the car, she still had to pay that substantial sum.
Not only had she failed to eliminate Yvette, but she had also alerted Albert, making him more vigilant.
Lost in these thoughts, Violet became momentarily distracted.
Just then, a blinding light flashed directly into her eyes.
She instinctively turned away to avoid it.
She slammed on the brakes, only to discover they weren't responding!
Panic surged through Violet as she frantically turned the steering wheel, instinctively trying to swerve.
The car didn't slow down—instead, it accelerated, crashing through a guardrail.
"Ah!" Violet screamed.
Looking up, she thought she had veered away from danger, but in the opposite lane, another vehicle was poised to strike, rushing toward her.
Like a cheetah that had been waiting for its prey, that car lunged toward Violet's vehicle with manic intensity.
Violet's car was already moving at a terrifying speed, and the oncoming driver pressed the accelerator, increasing their velocity.
The two vehicles collided with devastating force. Violet's car was instantly flipped by the impact.
A thunderous explosion echoed through the night.
Violet's car lay overturned, having been thrown a considerable distance, leaving a terrifying trail on the ground.
Dust rose in clouds, but everything appeared to be just an "ordinary" accident.
Violet's forehead was split open, blood slowly trickling down, blurring her vision...
Violet was dreaming: in her nightmare, her unborn child transformed into a monster, opening a bloody maw to devour her, wailing, "Why didn't you protect me? Why? Why did you conceive me only to deny me life?"
Violet was utterly devastated, wanting to tell her child how much she loved it, but unable to utter a single word.
"No!" Violet jolted awake from the nightmare.
She gasped for air, large beads of sweat forming on her forehead and sliding down her cheeks.
Opening her eyes, she was startled to see a man standing there.
It was Albert.
He stood beside her bed, looking down at her with cold eyes.
Violet fought to hide her surprise, trying to appear calm. "Albert? Thank you for visiting me... I don't know what happened..."
"You don't know?" Albert let out a cold laugh, slowly bending down to look directly at her.
The smile on his lips gradually froze, an aura of danger emanating from him. His expression briefly flashed with lethal intent.
This dangerous look vanished as quickly as it appeared. He paused, then said, "Would you like me to tell you?"
In that instant, Violet understood.
This was Albert's doing.
The emotions Violet had been suppressing collapsed. She looked at Albert in terror. "It was you?"
Albert didn't deny it. He straightened up, regarding her with an icy expression.
"Whatever you do to Yvette," Albert raised his eyebrows slightly, the corner of his mouth twitching, his eyes radiating murderous intent, "I'll return it to you a hundredfold."
