Chapter 322 The Car Lost Control
Albert was driving quietly, his shirt sleeves rolled up just enough to show off his toned forearms and a flashy gold watch. His eyes had this intense, wild look, like a lone wolf under the moon.
David's words were still messing with his head.
Yvette chose Jessica, so what was he supposed to do now?
After a moment of thinking, he made a sudden U-turn and headed back.
David had come to drop off a seal for Yvette, but after the drama with Albert, he didn't feel like talking to her anymore.
He was worried he might lose his cool and say something that would start a fight.
So, David left the seal at the front desk, asked them to give it to Yvette, and walked out of the Valdemar Group, heading back to his car.
He leaned back in the driver's seat, trying to calm his racing thoughts. He had kept it together all these years; he couldn't let a few of Albert's taunts get to him now.
David started the car and merged into traffic, but he was so distracted that he was driving super slow, and everyone behind him was speeding past.
A black car was tailing him, matching his speed. David glanced in the rearview mirror and recognized Albert's license plate—Albert had caught up. His brows knitted together. The car was so close that David could almost hear Albert's taunts if he stopped.
David didn't want to waste any more time with Albert. His feelings for Yvette were stronger, and he could protect her better. Why should he back down?
He couldn't give up on Yvette.
There was no point in getting tangled up with Albert, this loser.
David floored the gas pedal and started weaving through traffic, trying to lose Albert.
Albert had just caught up and was about to talk when he saw David speed up.
David's brush-off made Albert even angrier, so he hit the gas and chased after him.
They sped through busy streets, dodging cars and creating a wild scene.
David turned onto a quiet road, his engine roaring.
Just as Albert was about to overtake him, David's car went out of control.
The car swerved in an "S" shape, the turns getting wider, and then it crashed into the front of Albert's car with a loud bang.
The two cars barely missed each other. Albert slammed on the brakes, but David's car kept going, crashing into a flower bed by the roadside.
Because of the high speed, David's car went over the flower bed and smashed into a big tree, with black smoke slowly rising.
Meanwhile, Yvette was in the conference room, putting away the seal she got from the front desk for the upcoming meeting. David was so thoughtful; she hadn't even noticed.
Thinking back, Yvette was still a bit worried. With the tension between Albert and David, she had left alone.Even though she knew staying would only mess with their emotions, she couldn't stand the thought of them fighting.
Feeling even more uneasy, Yvette's phone rang. The meeting hadn't started yet, but everyone was sitting quietly, so she slipped out to take the call.
"David, what's up?" she asked.
To her surprise, it was the Valdemar Family's butler, Manuel Barnett, on the other end, sounding tense. "Mrs. Valdemar!"
"Why are you calling me from David's phone?" Yvette was confused.
Manuel's voice shook a bit. "He's... in the hospital."
Yvette's heart skipped a beat. "Hospital? What happened to David?"
Manuel explained, "Mr. Valdemar was in a car accident. He's seriously injured and in the hospital. You need to come right away. We haven't told Mrs. Cheryl Valdemar yet."
Thinking of Cheryl's health, Yvette quickly said, "Don't tell her. I'll be there right away!"
Yvette rushed back to the conference room to grab her things just as Dominic walked in.
Everyone was already seated, and Dominic's arrival meant the meeting was about to start.
Seeing Yvette, Dominic asked, "Shall we begin?"
Looking apologetic, Yvette grabbed her bag. "Dominic, I'm really sorry, but there's a family emergency. I can't stay for the meeting. I apologize."
Ignoring Dominic's darkening expression, Yvette hurried out to get to the hospital.
Panting, Yvette arrived at the emergency room entrance and saw Manuel anxiously waiting on a nearby chair.
Manuel stood up when he saw her. "Mrs. Valdemar."
"What's going on?" Yvette frowned. "He just left me not long ago."
"We're not sure yet; he's in surgery," Manuel said vaguely. "I didn't explain clearly on the phone. Albert and David were in the accident together. Albert signed the surgery consent."
Yvette's body stiffened, her demeanor turning icy as she spotted Albert, covered in blood, standing by the emergency room door, watching her from a distance.
She couldn't see his expression, but remembering their argument before she left, a terrible thought crossed her mind.
Yvette walked up to Albert.
Albert, exhausted from the rescue and hospital arrangements, had finally regained his composure.
Seeing the worry and pain in Yvette's eyes for David, he felt a pang of heartache but tried to comfort her. "The best doctor is performing the surgery."
Yvette's gaze grew colder, and she trembled as she questioned, "Albert, it was you, wasn't it?"
Albert was taken aback. "What?"
"Why did you do it?" Yvette's emotions flared. "If you have a problem, come at me! Why hurt David? He's your brother, your own brother!"
Stunned, Albert finally understood that Yvette thought he had intentionally tried to kill David.
Albert's eyes flashed with disbelief, unable to hide his hurt. "You think I hit David on purpose? You see me as a murderer?"
