Chapter 45 Do You Still Remember Your Promise to Me?
The group departed, leaving Albert standing alone, only just realizing what he had said.
Perhaps by tonight, the rumors about his relationship with Yvette would spread throughout the company.
He pondered carefully, realizing that he and Yvette hadn't reached that stage yet. More importantly, how would she react once she found out?
'Would she be angry?'
'After all, she seemed so eager to end things.'
The light from the training center enveloped the tips of his hair. He gazed into the distance, then eventually walked alone towards the simulated cabin.
Originally, Yvette was scheduled to be on duty at the air medical office for the next two days. However, she switched shifts with Sylvia privately out of fear of encountering Albert.
Sitting alone in the center's clinic, she felt like she was overthinking things.
They would inevitably meet sooner or later, so what was the point of her actions?
Recalling Sylvia's sighs and words from the previous night, Yvette felt unsettled.
Sylvia had said, "You've liked him for so many years, and you've finally come this far. Are you really willing to give up like this? Make one more effort; consider it your last chance."
Yvette felt very confused.
Throughout all these years, although Yvette had always lived in Violet's shadow, she had never harbored any resentment towards her. When it came to matters of the heart, Violet was brave and decisive. She would fight to defend her love. It was something Yvette didn't dare to do.
Until now, she hadn't dared to ask Albert. Has there ever been a moment when you felt something for me?
She was afraid the answer would be no.
It's often said that love is worth fighting for when it's reciprocated. But is there any point in fighting for love if it's one-sided?
Yvette's thoughts drifted towards the end of her shift. She picked up her phone and realized it was running out of battery. Absentmindedly, she had forgotten to charge it, and now she couldn't find the charging cable.
Yvette searched for a spare charger. Opening a drawer, she saw a keychain inside. Unknowingly, she had accumulated quite a few of them.
Every time Albert flew an international route, he would bring her a souvenir keychain with the name and landmark of the place imprinted on it.
Memories flashed through her mind, each keychain described to her in detail by Albert, calmly portraying the local scenes.
He would always casually mention, "Next time, I'll take you there."
He hadn't taken her anywhere yet, and she was unwilling to give up. Should she continue as before, repeating the same mistakes, or should she break free from this impasse?
Would she have this chance?
Steve didn't understand what he had done wrong. It was supposed to be another mentorship today, but when he entered the simulation cockpit, he found Albert occupying the mentor seat once again.
In his mind, Steve muttered, "Why is Albert so devoted to work?"
Recalling past experiences, he settled into his seat, fearing to make any more mistakes.
"Mr. Valdemar, am I following the schedule for today?" Steve cautiously inquired.
Albert remained silent as he fastened his seatbelt. At that moment, his phone rang, breaking the silence in the simulated cabin with its abrupt sound.
Glancing at his phone, Albert raised his head and said, "I'll step out for a moment. Take a look at the operating manual."
The remnants of the sunset tinted the entire sky with a crimson hue. White streaks from planes crossing the sky lingered in the heavens above the harbor. A gentle breeze dispersed the white mist into the semblance of flowing clouds.
Violet was placed at the center's entrance. After a while, she saw Albert coming downstairs with firm steps. He was dressed in a white shirt with two buttons undone at the collar, his sleeves casually rolled up. He exuded an air of elegance. Slowly lifting his gaze, his eyes appeared indifferent.
Violet followed Albert to a secluded area. Occasionally, faint voices could be heard from the nearby building.
She gazed at Albert's back until he halted his steps, turned around, and met her gaze emotionlessly.
This unfamiliar demeanor of Albert made her feel distant. In the past, whenever he walked ahead of her like this, a hum from her would make him pause, turn back with a smile, and wave for her to catch up.
Those days were too beautiful, to the point that reminiscing about them now made her feel like crying.
The bluish-gray exterior walls, the setting sun trickling through the leaves, their intertwined shadows swaying gently in the breeze.
Taking a step forward, Violet closed the distance between them slightly.
"Did Dr. Orlando's family cause you any trouble afterward?" Violet looked at Albert with a hint of remorse. "I'm sorry I brought trouble upon you. If not for me, you wouldn't have clashed with Dr. Orlando's mother."
Before Violet could finish her words, Albert interrupted her.
"This is my affair, you need not worry."
Albert's cold and courteous demeanor deeply pierced Violet.
Violet stubbornly stated, "Now, this concerns the three of us."
"Dr. Orlando has decided to terminate the pregnancy and divorce," Violet choked up. "You won't be held back by that child anymore, and everything is over."
Upon hearing Violet's words, Albert froze.
"What did you say?"
His gaze scanned Violet, his expression icy.
Planes in the harbor took off one by one, the sonic booms scratching at the eardrums. Amidst the noise, Albert's voice was lost to Violet.
"What did you just say?"
"Did she say she wants to terminate the pregnancy?" Albert asked each word deliberately.
"Dr. Orlando?" Violet, convinced that Albert didn't believe her, affirmed, "She has clearly told me that she intends to terminate the pregnancy and get a divorce. I will compensate her, and she has agreed, so you don't need to feel guilty."
Albert's back was rigid, his hands at his sides slowly clenched into fists, and his eyes filled with anger.
The image of Yvette suggesting that things end flashed through his mind. Were both the child and the marriage merely commodities for her to exchange for money? How much would Violet give her? She was even willing to give up the child.
His fists tightened more and more. In this moment of urgency to confirm the truth, he had no patience to continue.
"I'm going in," Albert said as he turned around.
In that instant, Violet tightly grabbed his arm.
Her eyes welled up with tears as she gently pulled out the necklace that she always kept close to her heart from her collar.
The exquisite necklace on Violet's skin accentuated the healthy and graceful lines of her collarbones.
It was a platinum necklace with a lifelike firefly-shaped pendant, glistening beautifully in the sunlight, reflecting splendor..
Violet, usually so resolute and confident, now revealed vulnerability and fragility.
Her shoulders trembled slightly, her voice quivering as she asked, "Albert, do you still remember your promise to me?"
