Chapter 345 Will Uncle Albert be our dad in the future?
As the car sped down the road and the scenery quickly receded, the open window let in a breeze that carried the fresh air, lifting Albert's spirits.
Suddenly, Yvette's slightly trembling voice flashed by his ear. "Albert, please protect us."
A faint smile touched the corners of Albert's lips, spreading like a ripple across his face. It reached his eyes, gathering into a starry glimmer before dispersing into the depths of his gaze.
His heart seemed to be filled with excitement and exhilaration, and in the end, his emotions overflowed, sweeping through his entire body and pouring out from his eyes.
At that moment, Albert couldn't hide his emotions. He watched as Yvette, always so strong, seemed about to collapse. Noticing her unsteadiness, he quickly caught her swaying body. Holding her, he finally felt his Yvette had returned.
The more dangerous Yvette's situation was, the harder he would try to protect her, and he would stop anyone who tried to harm her.
Planning to send the children to David, he suddenly realized, after seeing her desperately protect them today, that what he truly wanted was for her to stay by his side, happy and content.
Since she loved those two children, he would keep them.
Whether it was David or Cheryl, if they tried to destroy his hard-won happiness, he would never let them act freely, nor would he let it go!
The room was dark, with only a phone screen lit up.
BoBo and CiCi were secretly holding Yvette's phone, and on the lit screen was David's pale but gentle smiling face.
"Daddy!" BoBo's eyes lit up as he leaned closer to the phone. "Are you feeling better?"
CiCi also leaned in. "Daddy, have you had your surgery? When are you coming to take us home?"
The two children's voices were clear, and David smiled. "Daddy is feeling better, but the surgery will be in a few days. Why is it so dark there? It shouldn't be nighttime now, right?"
"We just woke up from a nap, and Mommy hasn't come over yet, so we secretly called you!" CiCi lowered her voice, pretending to be mysterious. "We miss you so much!"
A shrewd look flashed in David's eyes. "I miss you too. Where's your mommy?"
CiCi said, "We just heard Mommy talking to Uncle Albert..."
Before CiCi could finish, BoBo interrupted, "And some other people. They were discussing something."
David's expression froze for a moment, and the smile on his lips gradually faded. "Did you hear what they were discussing?"
"No," BoBo answered quickly.
"No, we didn't," CiCi said. "It was too noisy outside, we couldn't hear clearly. Daddy, is Stellaria fun? You said the surgery will be in a few days, so does that mean we can't go back yet?"
"Yes," David said impatiently, steering the conversation back. "Has Uncle Albert been coming to see you often lately?"
Pushing open the door, Yvette heard David's probing question, and her anger surged instantly as she rushed over to snatch the phone away.
She ended the video call and almost instinctively scolded, "Why did you secretly call David?"
BoBo and CiCi were stunned, frightened by Yvette's reaction.
The two maids who took care of BoBo and CiCi followed them in, silently opening the curtains and standing by, seemingly more inclined to eavesdrop on Yvette's conversation with the children than to assist.
Yvette couldn't care about that now. She sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the two children with a serious expression.
"Mommy needs to talk to you about this," Yvette said sternly, looking at BoBo and CiCi. "From now on, don't say too much to David. No matter what he asks, don't answer, understand?"
Yvette felt a wave of fear. Ever since she discovered David's true nature, she had been wary of his schemes.
But she hadn't expected him to stoop so low as to try to get information from the children.
"Mommy, why?" CiCi asked, confused.
"There's no need for so many whys." Yvette raised her voice. "Don't talk too much in front of David. If you want to stay with Mommy, you have to be obedient!"
The children had never seen Yvette lose her temper or break down. No matter how upset she was, she would always speak to them patiently.
But today, her stern reprimand scared them.
Did that mean if they didn't listen, she wouldn't want them anymore?
Thinking of this, CiCi became extremely sad. "Mommy, I'll be good. Mommy, you have to want BoBo and me! You have to be with us!"
CiCi's tearful plea for a hug made Yvette's heart ache with guilt.
How could their adult issues affect the children? The kids didn't understand anything; they didn't know David's kindness was fake or that their words could be used against them. They just wanted their daddy, nothing more.
But she had lost her temper at them without considering right or wrong, scaring them.
Yvette took a deep breath and said, "Sweetheart, Mommy will always be with you. But a lot has happened recently, things that Mommy can't control. So you need to be even better, even more obedient, and not make Mommy worry, okay?"
CiCi's sobs quieted a bit, and she asked through her tears, "Mommy, if we're good, you won't leave us, right?"
"Of course not," Yvette said, stroking their faces tenderly. "It's just that Daddy isn't that important. As long as you remember that I'm your mommy, that's all that matters."
CiCi didn't quite understand, but she nodded vaguely.
But BoBo, who hadn't cried at all, was carefully observing Yvette's expression and demeanor.
Hearing this, BoBo blinked and said calmly, "Mommy, are you saying that we shouldn't contact Daddy anymore and just stay with you?"
Yvette pressed her lips together. "Yes, I will always be your mommy, and I will always love you. That will never change."
"Oh," BoBo said, his round eyes reflecting a wisdom and maturity beyond his years. "Then, Mommy, if Daddy is no longer our daddy, will Uncle Albert be our daddy?"
