Chapter 217 Albert Stayed Overnight with the Valdemar Family
As soon as Cheryl finished talking, everyone at the table turned to look at Yvette. Yvette stood there, feeling a bit awkward for a moment.
Andrew's face showed he was super pissed at Albert just now, and he was about to blow up. In a panic, Yvette wanted to jump in and calm things down. But out of everyone there, she was the least qualified to speak.
Yvette's hands hung by her sides, clenched into fists. She took a deep breath and said, "If you like having the younger folks drink with you at home, I can join too."
Cheryl gave Yvette a meaningful look, then glanced at Albert. Just as she was about to agree, Lisa chimed in. Lisa smiled at Yvette and said, "Yvette, it's probably best if you don't drink right now, right, James?"
James nodded. "Mom, they haven't been married long. It's better if she doesn't drink. Albert can drink with you."
Even though the reason wasn't spelled out, everyone's eyes fell on Albert. Albert picked up his glass with a blank expression and downed the drink in one go, but he didn't say anything.
Cheryl said, "You can sit down." Cheryl didn't say whether Yvette should drink or not.
Andrew said, "Yvette, you don't need to join. If Albert gets drunk, you'll have to take care of him."
Yvette nodded. "Okay." Bottles of alcohol were emptied on the table, and the men were starting to get drunk.
Albert hadn't planned to drink much, but in front of Cheryl, he couldn't refuse and had to keep drinking.
Several cousins had disliked Albert for a long time. They got little inheritance, while Albert got the most, even more than the older generation.
Unable to argue about the inheritance, they started talking about other things.
"Albert, with such a beautiful wife at home, do you really never stay home overnight?"
"Yeah, Albert, you haven't been married long. Are you impotent?"
"Everyone's here, don't talk nonsense." Albert's eyes were cold as he glanced at them. "It seems you guys aren't suited for drinking. You start discussing such uncouth subjects, which doesn't befit the Valdemar family."
"What's uncouth about it? It's normal for men to talk about."
"Albert, are you really impotent and afraid to admit it?"
Cheryl had already left, and Albert didn't bother to keep up the act. Albert placed his fork on the table, picked up his glass, and downed the last sip of his drink. He stood up, not even sparing them a glance, and turned to leave.
Yvette, who had been waiting in the distance, didn't know what they had talked about. She just felt that the unfriendly gazes had taken on a new meaning, making her even more uncomfortable.
Seeing Albert suddenly rise, visibly unsteady from drinking, Yvette bit her lip and decided to approach him.
Yvette reached out to support Albert, but he just looked at her blankly, sidestepped her hand, and went straight to the sofa to sit down.
Even drunk, Albert kept his posture straight. He lazily unbuttoned a couple of buttons on his shirt, showing off his collarbone and prominent Adam's apple.
Cheryl looked at Albert. "Had a bit too much, haven't you?"
"Not really," Albert said casually, but his furrowed brows showed he was uncomfortable.
Yvette stood by, not wanting to say anything, but James kept giving her meaningful looks. Yvette knew he was hinting for her to make Albert stay.
Yvette bit her lip, unable to say a word. James, growing impatient, glared at Yvette and said to Albert, "In such a state of intoxication, do you still plan to go home?"
Albert's voice was slightly hoarse. "I'll have the family driver take me home."
"The family driver is off tonight, so there's no one to take you home." James pointed at Yvette. "If you go home drunk, there will be no one there to attend to you. Stay here, Yvette can look after you, and nothing will happen."
Albert sneered inwardly. Though he was a bit drunk, his mind was still clear, and he remembered what James had said to Yvette that morning. James just wanted to keep him here so Yvette could try to get pregnant.
Albert didn't respond, and Cheryl didn't say anything either, making James even more anxious. Even in front of Cheryl and Albert, James couldn't help but say to Yvette, "Yvette, look at him. How can he go home like this?"
Albert listened quietly, surprisingly harboring a slight hope that Yvette would reject the proposal. Maybe then he could fool himself into thinking Yvette wasn't as greedy as James claimed.
But the next second, Yvette's soft, slightly hoarse voice came from above. "You should stay here. Otherwise, Grandma will worry."
In that instant, Albert's expression grew even colder. Hearing this, Cheryl agreed, "Alright, you're drunk. No one can take you home due to your imposing height and robust build. There are plenty of servants here to help if needed."
Albert forced a self-deprecating smile but didn't respond. Seeing that Albert didn't insist on leaving, James was pleasantly surprised and didn't give Albert a chance to refuse. He called over the family servants.
James said to the servants, "Help Albert to his room and bring him a glass of milk. Yvette, go up and wipe him down with a wet cloth so he can rest comfortably, got it?"
"Got it," Yvette replied softly.
Seeing the two servants helping Albert to the elevator, Yvette quickly followed but was stopped by James. James whispered to Yvette, "He's drunk. Take this opportunity, got it?"
Yvette, feeling tired, didn't want to argue and just nodded. Albert, being helped into the elevator by the servants, saw James whispering to Yvette and her nodding in agreement. He was more disappointed in Yvette.
Yvette hurriedly followed and stepped into the elevator. Through the reflection on the elevator wall, she noticed Albert standing behind her, staring intently at her.
Yvette, already feeling uneasy about sharing a room with Albert, felt even more uncomfortable under his intense gaze. Above her, Albert's disdainful voice said, "Don't worry, I have no intention of engaging in any intimate acts with you."
