Chapter 298 Yvette Left
Yvette's eyes were a bit red as she looked at David, feeling all sorts of pain.
She knew he had saved her and the kids, always looking out for them. That's why, even though she was hurting, she couldn't bring herself to hate or blame him.
Yvette was in a tough spot.
She was Yvette, but she couldn't acknowledge who she was. David was right; the kids' origins had to stay a secret.
The Valdemar family, especially James, were like vultures, ready to use her pregnancy to mess with Albert. Albert couldn't stand her; he wouldn't put up with being blackmailed over her kids. If he found out Christina and Lester were his, who knew what he'd do? She didn't even want to think about it.
But those kids meant everything to her; she'd never let anything happen to them!
"Yvette," David's voice softened, almost pleading as he trembled and asked, "Since you remember everything, you know what your life was like before. You wanted out too. I took you away and kept you safe. Come back with me to Stellaria, and we can pick up where we left off, okay?"
Yvette's eyes briefly betrayed her confusion.
It was certainly safer to be Jessica than to be Yvette.
Yet, she was Yvette, and that fact was immutable.
After a bit, Yvette slowly lifted her head and looked right into David's eyes. "David, I'm really grateful you saved me and BoBo and CiCi. And I'm thankful for all your help and care over the years."
David's eyes dimmed, a hint of despair creeping in. He quickly tried to stop Yvette from continuing. "Yvette."
"But I'm really sorry." Yvette pressed her lips together. "Gratitude isn't love. I can't go back to being your wife. I don't want to waste your life. You deserve someone who loves you and wants to spend their life with you. You're a good person."
David took a step forward, gripping Yvette's arms emotionally. He was a bit agitated but still tried to keep it together. "I don't want anyone else; I only want you. Don't you get it?"
She felt grateful and guilty for his protection and care, but she couldn't return his feelings.
She had wondered countless times if things would be different if she had fallen in love with David.
But there are no "what ifs" in this world, and she couldn't control her feelings.
Yvette's lips moved slightly. "I'm sorry, David."
If Yvette could logically pick who to love, she would undoubtedly choose David, but love doesn't operate on logic.
She couldn't love David, nor could she lie to him.
David looked at Yvette's determined expression, his eyes darkening. He stood straight, his hands clenching into fists so tightly it seemed like he could crush anything.
He smiled, his deep eyes showing a cold tenderness.
"It's okay, Yvette. Not loving me isn't your fault; it's my obsession."
He had used everything he had to create the best life for her and the kids, giving their stability. She was hesitant to let him get too close, and he had patiently bided his time.
Three years later, all he received was a simple "sorry." How ironic!
He thought, 'Yvette, if that's how it is, then don't blame me.'
"BoBo and CiCi are registered as my legitimate kids. I raised them myself. I won't let the Valdemar family or Albert take them away. I'm taking the kids back to Stellaria," David said calmly. "As a parent, I think you understand how I feel."
Yvette didn't notice David's growing coldness; she was just seriously considering his words.
He reminded Yvette that she couldn't go back to being the controlled Yvette. Staying as Jessica and keeping her current identity was the best move for her.
She had to leave Luken with the kids as soon as possible, far away from Albert's reach. The sun was shining brightly as Yvette pulled herself together and headed downstairs with David to pick up Lester and Christina.
The kids were having a blast and ran towards them with big smiles.
"Mommy, Daddy!"
Yvette's heart ached a bit as she knelt down to touch their faces. "Did you have fun?"
"Yes!" Christina nodded enthusiastically and pointed back at the other kids in the playground. "They like us too!"
"BoBo and CiCi are popular wherever you go," Yvette said with a smile.
Seeing the kids' happy faces, Yvette felt a mix of emotions.
To them, she was their mom, Jessica, and David was their dad.
David noticed Yvette's unusual expression and bent down to pick up the kids. "BoBo, CiCi, we need to go upstairs and pack our bags."
"Where are we going, Daddy?" Lester asked.
"Home. Daddy's back, so no more staying in the hotel," David said with a smile. "When we get home, you'll have your own rooms, your own toys, and a nanny to take care of you."
"Really?" Christina's eyes lit up with excitement. "Is it our home here? Daddy, what about my dresses? Did you bring them back?"
David said, "If you want dresses, we'll buy more."
Christina blinked. "What about the dresses I bought before? Don't you want them anymore?"
Hearing this, David glanced at Yvette for a moment and then smiled at Christina. "You can wear your old dresses when we go back to Las Vegas."
Christina answered, "Okay!"
Lester blinked and turned to ask Yvette, "Mommy, are we going back to Las Vegas soon?"
Yvette gently touched the kids' faces. "Yes, after we meet with the elders, we'll go back to Stellaria."
David heard Yvette say this and realized she had made her choice.
She loved the kids, so he still had a chance.
At the Valdemar Villa, Cheryl was soaking up the sun while a servant fanned her in the backyard.
Albert's voice came from behind. "Grandma."
Cheryl didn't even turn her head. "You didn't come when I was sick, but now that I'm better, you show up?"
Since Yvette disappeared, Cheryl had thrown several fits at Albert and later fell seriously ill, her health never fully recovering.
"There were too many people visiting when you were sick; I couldn't get in," Albert said softly. "I'll bring some people to see you later."
"Always making excuses," Cheryl sneered and looked back at him. "Who?"
Cheryl looked disinterested, and Albert knew she had lost hope after being disappointed multiple times.
Albert was about to speak when his phone suddenly rang. He looked down and saw it was Vincent.
Albert answered casually, "Did you get them? If so, have the luggage sent to my house and bring the people directly to the Valdemar Villa."
Vincent's voice was a bit stiff. "Mr. Valdemar, Yvette and the kids ain't here. I checked with the hotel staff, and they said they've already left. Sorry, couldn't catch 'em."
Albert's eyes darkened. "They left?"
Vincent answered, "Yes, they have already left the hotel."
Albert said, "I'm coming over now."
Albert didn't even have time to say a word to Cheryl before rushing to his car.
He immediately started the car, the veins on the back of his hand bulging as he gripped the steering wheel.
Yvette had run away again!
Albert's solid chest heaved, a mix of anger and a hint of excitement.
She ran, which meant she was afraid to admit she was Yvette!
Thinking of this, Albert said in a deep voice to Vincent, "Find out what time they left and check if they took a flight out of the country."
Vincent was stunned. "You suspect she took the kids back to Las Vegas?"
"Yes," Albert said firmly, his jaw tight. "No matter where she goes, I will find her."
