Chapter 152 Confirmation

Albert had just wrapped up his flight, and man, his uniform was on point, making him look even more dashing.

He looked a bit beat and said softly, "Let's chat in my office."

Lassie nodded but felt a bit uneasy. She didn't expect that in just a couple of days, Albert had stopped calling her "Mom." It seemed like he was really drawing lines because of the upcoming divorce.

Following Albert to his office, Lassie glanced around. "Your office is pretty sweet."

"Yeah." Albert handed Lassie a bottle of water. "So, what brings you here today?"

Lassie took the bottle but didn't open it. She rolled her eyes and asked, "Albert, I heard from Yvette that you went to City Hall?"

Albert pursed his lips, his expression unchanged, and confirmed it.

Lassie awkwardly laughed. "Didn't I tell you to wait until her emotions settled down? Going to City Hall means you're really getting a divorce."

Albert met Lassie's gaze and said in a deep voice, "Yvette scheduled the City Hall appointment without telling me. You know her well. She wouldn't back down."

Of course, Lassie knew. Yvette seemed gentle and weak, but she was super stubborn. Once she made up her mind, she wouldn't change it unless she figured it out herself. Even if Albert hadn't gone to City Hall this time, Yvette would have found another way.

Lassie sighed helplessly. She thought for a moment and asked carefully, "Albert, I want to ask you something. Last time you said you didn't want to divorce Yvette. Have you changed your mind? Is it because of someone else that you want a divorce now?"

Pausing, Lassie added, "I know you're handsome and rich, but if you really get divorced, it's hard to say if single girls would still want to marry you."

Although Lassie spoke carefully, Albert immediately caught the hidden message.

Albert decisively denied, "You're overthinking it. There's no one else."

Lassie was half-convinced. "If there's no one else, and you don't want a divorce, you should work with me to stall until Yvette comes around!"

"I don't want a divorce," Albert said in a deep voice, "but now, I can only cooperate and respect her choice."

Albert's cold tone made Lassie uncomfortable, but she didn't dare to show her anger. "As long as you don't want a divorce, I'll find a way! Don't worry!"

Hearing Lassie's confident words, Albert pursed his lips and said nothing.

Just then, someone knocked on Albert's office door, and Steve's voice came from outside.

"Mr. Valdemar, the boss wants to see you in the office."

"Got it." Albert politely saw Lassie out. "Sorry, I have work to do."

The setting sun shone through the window into Yvette's room, casting a golden glow on her.

Yvette squinted and took out the form Wyatt had given her from her bag.

Mr. Wilson had sent her a job offer a long time ago. Yvette had made up her mind to take it, but the sudden miscarriage had completely messed up her plans. As Wyatt had said, she might not be able to handle such a high-intensity job right now.

Staring at the words "Central National Hospital" on the form, Yvette felt a bit lost.

She picked up a pen and started filling it out, her mind drifting back to all the unresolved feelings for Albert over the years, all the times they'd been together, especially lately.

Without even realizing it, she had filled out half the form when her hand suddenly stopped.

Her fingers tightened, and the pen lifted off the paper.

After a while, Yvette bit her lip, seemingly thinking of something, and decisively put down the pen. She opened a drawer and tossed the half-filled form inside.

A knock on the door snapped her out of her thoughts. Yvette realized that Lassie had returned while she was lost in her head.

Yvette thought about her visit to Sylvia that morning and didn't want Lassie to come in. But before she could say anything, Lassie had already pushed the door open.

Lassie walked in with a small bowl of freshly washed grapes and placed it in front of Yvette. "I bought these on my way back. They look fresh, have some."

Lassie took one and popped it in her mouth. "They're pretty sweet, try one."

Yvette blurted out, "Grapes have too much sugar."

Then she remembered that the baby was gone, and the sugar content didn't matter much anymore.

Yvette pursed her lips. "They'll make me gain weight."

"It's okay. You're so thin now, it's not good for your..." Lassie quickly shut her mouth, swallowing the words "pregnancy" along with the grape and added, "Gaining some weight would be good for you."

Yvette picked up a grape and put it in her mouth, saying softly, "Please don't go asking people around me those random questions. It's really embarrassing."

"I know, why are you getting so naggy?"

Lassie brushed it off, but she was still bothered by her conversation with Albert that afternoon. Although Albert denied there was someone else, his sudden change in attitude to cooperate with the divorce and not calling her "Mom" anymore made her more convinced that Albert had fallen for someone else.

Lassie blinked and asked casually, "I just thought he might still be in touch with that woman and that's why he agreed to the divorce. Yvette, just tell me, is he really back with that woman and planning to marry her after divorcing you?"

Yvette was speechless. Lassie wouldn't listen, even after Sylvia said no.

Knowing that Lassie wouldn't change her mind, Yvette waved her hand and angrily said, "I've told you it's not true. Stop asking. Can you drop it?"

Lassie sighed heavily. Yvette's evasive attitude only confirmed her suspicions.

She clenched her teeth in frustration but didn't dare show it in front of Yvette, fearing that Yvette would insist on the divorce because of it but wouldn't tell her.

Lassie clenched her fists. "Fine, I won't bring it up. Yvette, if you need anything, you must tell me. I'll help you, okay?"

Hearing this, Yvette looked at Lassie in surprise.

After a while, Yvette smirked. "You just want to keep me with Albert, don't you? You're scared of losing him and having to pay back all that money?"
