Chapter 245 I'll Take Responsibility for Her Mistakes
"What's up?"
Yvette froze at the sound of the familiar male voice. She turned around and found herself staring into Albert's intense eyes.
She had only snapped back to avoid Lisa's harsh scolding. Knowing she was in the wrong, Yvette immediately looked down, feeling guilty as soon as she saw Albert.
Despite Albert's warning, she still reached out to touch Ruth's fancy bracelet in front of everyone, embarrassing herself.
Yvette pressed her lips together, her hands clenched into fists, too nervous to meet his gaze.
Lisa gave Yvette a once-over, her expression unchanged, but there was clear contempt in her eyes.
She softly explained to Albert, "Just now, Ernest's wife Ruth was wearing a diamond bracelet that everyone admired, but Yvette reached out to touch it. Albert, you know, such a bracelet is very valuable and shouldn't be touched carelessly. Yvette's lack of common sense made everyone laugh. Cheryl specifically introduced Yvette as your wife."
Her tone was gentle and her expression soft, but her words were accusing Yvette of making Albert a laughingstock.
Standing to the side, Yvette felt the last bit of courage to argue with Lisa drain away.
Albert, who had been frowning and listening, suddenly let out a cold laugh. Yvette's throat tightened, and she bit her lip, lowering her eyes in silence, as if awaiting judgment.
"Repeat the question you just asked her, but direct it to me," Albert said in a low, emotionless voice.
A flash of confusion crossed Lisa's eyes, but she repeated instinctively due to Albert's commanding tone, "She's arguing after making a mistake?"
Albert lifted his eyelids and said coldly, "I'll take responsibility for her mistakes. You don't need to reprimand her. Got it?"
Lisa's face contorted, her mouth agape, before she reluctantly shut it.
"What? Don't understand?" Albert's voice was icy. "No matter what she did, it's not your place to point it out. Got it?"
Lisa's face changed, and she opened her mouth but closed it reluctantly.
It wasn't until Albert put his arm around her waist and led her away that Yvette realized what had happened.
Did he just help her?
She had thought he would join Lisa in scolding her without mercy.
Yvette felt a flutter in her chest, her heart lightly leaping with joy.
Being held by Albert, Yvette felt enveloped in his familiar scent.
It wasn't until they reached the car that Albert let go of her.
Albert stood in front of Yvette, expressionless. He said, "Milton is waiting for you in the car."
Yvette was slightly taken aback, realizing that Albert didn't intend to go home with her. She nodded, replying, "Okay."
Yvette got into the car, and as it slowly started, she shook off her reverie and returned to her senses.
She shouldn't let her mind wander.
Albert defended her simply because she was his wife, refusing to let Lisa bully her due to his disdain for the Valdemar family.
Yvette's lips drooped slightly, and the fleeting joy vanished.
He hated being told they were a good match, so how could he possibly like her?
Days at the Valdemar family always seemed to drag on.
After waking up from a nap, Yvette glanced at the clock and sighed.
The sun was shining brightly outside, perfect for an outing. But now, she didn't dare go anywhere.
Not wanting to waste such a beautiful day, Yvette got up, planning to soak up some sun in the backyard.
Just as she headed downstairs, her phone rang. It was Sylvia.
Yvette answered, "Hey, Sylvia."
Sylvia's voice was bubbling with excitement, "Yvette, guess where I am?"
Yvette was puzzled, "Where are you?"
"I'm at the Valdemar family! Turn around!" Sylvia exclaimed.
Yvette turned around and saw Sylvia running down the stairs.
Yvette was stunned and before she could react, she was wrapped in Sylvia's warm embrace.
Still in a daze, Yvette instinctively hugged Sylvia back. It had been so long since she had seen someone she was familiar with.
After spending so much time with the Valdemar family, who wore perpetual smiles that never reached their hearts, Yvette had almost forgotten how to laugh genuinely.
Swallowing hard, Yvette finally reacted and asked in surprise, "Sylvia? What are you doing here?"
"Of course, your husband called me over," Sylvia said with a smile. "He said Mrs. Cheryl Valdemar was feeling chest tightness and insisted I come! But everything's fine."
"Grandma's feeling chest tightness?" Yvette was surprised. "I didn't know. Did you check her? How is she?"
Sylvia replied, "Don't worry, nothing's wrong."
Yvette said, "That's good."
Sylvia looked at Yvette meaningfully. "At first, I thought it was strange. The Valdemar family's excellent doctor from abroad is much better than me. Why would they call me for a check-up? It wasn't until Cheryl spilled the beans about you being bored at the Valdemar's that it clicked. Albert must have pulled some strings to get me here for you!"
Yvette instinctively denied, "That's impossible. Maybe he really thought your previous treatment alleviated his chest tightness and called you over."
"What do you mean I've ever alleviated his chest discomfort?" Sylvia patted Yvette's shoulder and explained, "He seldom comes in for a check-up when I'm on duty. If anything were amiss, he wouldn't come to me. The only two times I treated him were because you had urgent matters."
Yvette was taken aback.
"Yvette, stop brushing off his feelings for you all the time. You and him have been through a lot, and trust me, as an outsider, it's crystal clear!" Sylvia said firmly. "For someone as reserved as Albert to do something like this to care for you secretly, he must love you!"
Yvette lowered her eyes. She knew it was impossible, but a glimmer of hope still arose in her heart.
She didn't dare hope for the love Sylvia spoke of, but if he truly cared for her, then in her agreement with James, where she couldn't leave the Valdemar family, living well with Albert might be a good outcome.
Seeing Sylvia's teasing expression, Yvette blinked and softly asked, "Really?"
