Chapter 385 The two people's lips kept getting closer
Albert's words shocked the servants, who all knelt before him, begging for mercy.
But Albert didn't even glance at them. He looked up at Yvette and said, "Where's the water you got for me?"
Yvette snapped back to reality, walked over to Albert, and handed him the water.
"Here," Yvette said softly. "Drink it."
Ignoring the crying servants, Yvette pushed Albert away. They walked in silence.
It wasn't until they returned to the ward that Yvette couldn't hold back any longer.
"You..." Yvette hesitated, then asked, "From where did you start hearing?"
Albert thought for a moment and answered seriously, "From 'impotent,' and I also heard them feeling sorry for you and wanting to give you some toys."
Yvette's face stiffened, realizing that Albert had heard everything from the beginning.
Albert had been under a lot of stress lately, with a strange temper, sensitive and irritable. Hearing such gossip must have made him feel even worse.
She quickly tried to comfort him, "Just pretend you didn't hear it. Don't get upset and harm your health! I don't need any toys."
Albert looked up and asked, "Who said I was angry?"
Yvette was stunned. "You're not angry? Then why did you fire them?"
"You said it, the Valdemar Family doesn't keep people who gossip," Albert said seriously. "Most importantly, we don't keep people who don't respect the mistress."
A complex emotion flashed in Yvette's eyes. He was standing up for her.
Her lips moved, feeling touched and about to speak, but Albert's expression changed.
A teasing smile appeared in his eyes, and he raised an eyebrow slightly. "Besides, you should know best whether I'm impotent or not, right?"
Yvette's body stiffened as she recalled helping Albert wash on the day the male nurse was absent, making her cheeks flush. She glared at him, both embarrassed and annoyed, and pretended not to hear as she tried to help him lie down, but Albert didn't let her escape.
"Although I'm not impotent," Albert sighed apologetically. "Given my current condition, it might be hard on you."
Yvette's hand paused, and her mind almost pictured the scene. "Albert! Shut up!"
Yvette's embarrassed and annoyed look gave Albert a strange sense of satisfaction.
He chuckled softly, not teasing her further, but his mind replayed the scene he had just witnessed.
Standing in the sunlight with her back straight, she stood up for him. Having been strong for so long, he had forgotten what it felt like to be protected. Hearing her defend him, warmth rose in Albert's chest.
He always wanted to be strong, to become someone who could control the world and strategize. But he just realized that being protected by the woman he loved was also a very happy thing.
Albert looked at Yvette with burning eyes.
As long as he could always feel Yvette's care for him, what did it matter if he could never stand up again?
The night was deep and silent.
Moonlight and starlight scattered on the ground, and the breath of the night spread throughout the city.
Tonight, Yvette seemed extremely tired. After helping Albert to bed, she lay down on her small folding bed and quickly fell asleep.
But Albert, whose body was gradually recovering and energy increasing, found it hard to sleep.
The more he wanted to keep Yvette, the more he decided to pretend to be paralyzed for life, the more uneasy he felt.
His leg strength had recovered a lot, and the fractured area was half healed. Sometimes, with just a little effort, he almost felt like he could get up.
The action of getting up and the effort required were almost his physiological instincts, hard to resist.
Simply put, he felt like he couldn't keep pretending much longer.
Albert turned back, looking at Yvette on the folding bed in the moonlight.
She slept deeply, her breathing even and heavy. Albert watched her chest rise and fall, almost feeling her warm breath.
Thinking about his increasingly better legs, Albert felt he should discuss it with Doyle.
He needed Doyle to talk to Yvette, to tell her that although his spinal function wasn't good, the necessary functions were there. Occasionally, he might even have a brief standing reaction, but that didn't mean he could stand up.
If she believed it, then later, if he occasionally made a move to get up, as long as he reacted in time, she wouldn't realize he was deceiving her.
As he was thinking this, Yvette suddenly licked her lips in her sleep and smacked them lightly.
The moonlight shone on her face, and the glistening water on her lips made Albert's heart race.
At that moment, the impulse to get close to her took over his mind, making it impossible for Albert's body to resist.
But fortunately, he still had a shred of rationality left.
Albert deliberately cleared his throat, but Yvette remained in a deep sleep.
He called softly, "Yvette."
Yvette didn't respond.
He raised his voice a bit, "Yvette?"
Yvette didn't even move an eyelid.
'It should be safe now, right?' Albert thought.
Albert confirmed again, "Yvette, wake up, I need to go to the bathroom."
This time, his voice was normal, not deliberately lowered. She was so deeply asleep that he couldn't wake her.
Albert's Adam's apple bobbed, his facial muscles tense, feeling a bit nervous.
He lifted the blanket, keeping a close eye on Yvette's reaction, and carefully got out of bed, afraid she might suddenly wake up.
Albert tiptoed to the folding bed and slowly squatted down.
The moonlight fell on Yvette's face, highlighting her delicate skin.
Yvette's sleeping face was peaceful and obedient. Albert had seen this scene countless times.
Countless times after their sex, he would look down and see Yvette's sleeping face in his arms.
But now, her face lacked the satisfaction and allure. He wished he could make that expression appear on Yvette's face again.
Albert's heated gaze traced Yvette's features, finally landing on her lips. The water on them had gradually dried, leaving a faint pink. Those soft lips seemed to have a magical power, drawing him closer.
In the silent night, Albert could almost only hear his own wildly beating heart.
As they got closer, feeling Yvette's warm breath on his face, Albert couldn't hold back any longer.
Just as his lips were about to touch hers, her previously steady breathing suddenly halted.
In the next second, those beautiful eyes that had been tightly closed suddenly opened...
