Chapter 154 Yvette Surrounded

Yvette was totally floored by what she just heard.

After a sec, she snapped back to reality and bolted to North Airlines.

When she got there, she saw a bunch of people crowding around Lassie, trying to talk her down.

"Hey, you can't just barge in! Violet's not here; she stepped out for something."

"Please, just go back!"

Lassie stood there, hands on her hips, eyes blazing. "Last time I came looking for my son-in-law, you said he wasn't here, but he showed up, didn't he? Don't think you can pull one over on me! I'm going in to find her today!"

The receptionists looked super stressed, blocking her but not wanting to get physical.

"Seriously, she's not here today. She's been kinda MIA lately, and we have no clue when she'll be back."

"If you wanna find her, maybe try calling first. Forcing your way in just makes it hard for us!"

Yvette felt a chill run down her spine, too embarrassed to step in right away.

Just then, the girl who had called Yvette spotted her and waved frantically. "Dr. Orlando, your mom's here!"

Yvette's whole body tensed up. The words "your mom" made her cringe. She clenched her fists and reluctantly walked over to Lassie.

Yvette looked at Lassie, disappointment all over her face. "What are you doing here?"

Lassie looked a bit guilty, blinking and speaking softly, "I came to confront the woman who wrecked your marriage. Is that so wrong?"

"Please, stop making a scene. Come home with me," Yvette said, trying to keep her cool.

The receptionists, seeing Yvette approach, backed off to watch the drama unfold.

Lassie shook her head. "No way, I'm finding her today."

Yvette stared at her mom, both of them stuck in a standoff.

Hearing the whispers around her, Yvette couldn't take it anymore. She grabbed Lassie's arm and started pulling her away.

Lassie kept shouting, "Why are you dragging me? I haven't found her yet!"

"Mom!" Yvette spun around, eyes red, speaking clearly, "If you still want me to call you my mother, leave now!"

Her voice was soft but firm. Lassie was stunned and had no choice but to follow Yvette out.

Once they were outside the North Airlines building, Yvette was about to take Lassie away when Lassie suddenly stopped.

"I forgot my phone! I need to go back up and get it!"

As Lassie turned to head back, Yvette felt a wave of dread.

She blocked her. "I'll get it. You wait here."

Yvette didn't want her mom going back up and causing more drama.

Reluctantly heading back up, Yvette overheard the receptionists talking about the incident as she approached.

"Did you hear what Dr. Orlando's mom said? Does that mean Mr. Valdemar and Dr. Orlando's marriage is on the rocks because of Violet?"

"Yeah, I think so. Didn't someone say Dr. Orlando found flirty texts between Mr. Valdemar and Violet?"

"Not just texts. I heard she caught them in the act."

"Seriously? Do you think Violet's been MIA 'cause she's pregnant?"

"Could be. Someone saw her at the hospital recently. Maybe for a prenatal checkup?"

"That's nuts. Dr. Orlando married Mr. Valdemar 'cause she got knocked up before the wedding. Now Violet's messing things up the same way."

The gossip just got wilder and wilder.

Yvette stood outside, too drained to even argue.

She quietly walked away and called the receptionist, saying her mother's phone was lost, waiting a bit before going back in.

She acted like she hadn't heard a thing, politely grabbed the phone, and left. That way, no one felt awkward.

Yvette and Lassie stayed silent on the way home, not saying a word.

Finally, when they got home, Yvette couldn't hold it in anymore. She looked up slightly, eyes glistening with tears, lips pale.

Yvette looked at Lassie helplessly, almost pleading, "Mom, why do you always have to do this? Even though I'm leaving, those people at North Airlines are still my colleagues, and Albert's too. How can we face them now?"

"Yvette, how can you say that? I went there to help you!" Lassie said, feeling wronged. "I just wanted to fix your marriage so you wouldn't have to go through with the divorce!"

"How many times do I have to say it? We are getting divorced!" Tears welled up in Yvette's eyes. "Our divorce has nothing to do with anyone else!"

"How can it have nothing to do with anyone else? If it weren't for that woman, you wouldn't be getting divorced!" Lassie said earnestly. "Do you know what a divorced woman who had a miscarriage will face in the future? And if Albert really divorces you, he can marry that homewrecker, have more kids, and live a happy life. The gap between you will only grow, and it'll tear you apart. Do you understand?"

Lassie's words painted a vivid picture in Yvette's mind, causing her heart to ache, but she still shook her head. "Mom, when will you understand that I want a divorce just because I want out?"

Lassie, eyes red with frustration, asked, "Then what about you? You're not young anymore. What are you going to do?!"

Yvette retorted, "I'll live my own life well. The rest, I'll leave to fate."

"Fate? Do you mean fate doesn't want you and Albert to be together?" Lassie looked at Yvette disapprovingly. "Do you think I don't know what you're thinking? I know you love him. Can you love someone else after leaving him?"

Yvette was stunned and brooded, 'Could I love someone else? I don't know.'

Yvette dug her nails into her palm, murmuring after a long pause, "But I still want to marry someone who loves me."
