Chapter 190 Yvette Takes Birth Control Pills
David's call wasn't the first one. He'd already been to Lassie's hospital that night but didn't spot Yvette. He pulled out his phone and tried calling her again, but no luck.
Leaving the hospital, David drove slowly, glancing at the clock. It had been over half an hour since he called Yvette, and still no response.
The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he got. Yvette was always quick to reply to messages and calls. David started to worry. Maybe she was pushing herself too hard and it was affecting her health.
After a moment of thinking, he finally pulled over to the side of the road and dialed her number again. This time, Yvette picked up, but she was crying. "David," she sobbed. Her voice was shaky, making David's heart tighten.
The sound on the other end was muffled, and David couldn't make out much, just some distant, low noises. David frowned, worried she might be in trouble. He swallowed and asked as gently as he could, "What's wrong?"
But Yvette didn't seem to want to talk about it. He asked a few more times, but she kept brushing him off.
David frowned, holding his breath as he listened to the sounds on the other end, but he could hear nothing clearly. He was still puzzled but could only listen quietly, trying to pick up any clues. But Yvette didn't give him a chance.
Seeing Albert finish his cold remark and close the window to leave, Yvette bit her lip and softly replied, "Okay."
As the car window closed, the car quickly drove away without hesitation. Yvette lowered her gaze, picked up her phone again, and heard David's worried question. "Yvette? Are you okay?"
Yvette bit her lip, replying, "I was just thinking about my mom, and my emotions got a bit unstable. I'm feeling much better now, I'm fine."
Knowing she was lying but not wanting to push her, David asked, "Where are you?"
Yvette, still on the phone, walked towards the nearby main road. Luckily, it wasn't far, and she quickly reached the roadside and hailed a cab. She got in and told David, "I'm on my way home, don't worry."
Then she hung up and gave the cab driver her home address. Finally, Yvette had a moment to rest. As she leaned back in the car seat, she relaxed, but the pain in every muscle of her body made her wince.
Albert always left her exhausted, but tonight was worse than usual. Yvette knew he must have been rougher than usual. Suddenly, she stiffened, realizing they hadn't used any protection in the car.
She still remembered how she felt lying on the cold operating table last time. Clenching her fists, she asked the driver to stop when they passed a pharmacy. "Please pull over here, I'll get off here."
Sissy, who had failed to teach Yvette a lesson, lost all interest in hanging out after Albert's parting words. She tossed some cash at Todd and stormed out of the bar.
The more she thought about it, the more freaked out she got. She decided to call Violet. Not wanting to be direct, Sissy asked, "Violet, when you were with Albert, what would he do when he got really mad?"
Violet, puzzled, replied, "Why are you asking this now? What's going on?"
Dodging the real issue, Sissy said, "It's nothing. I just ran into Yvette at the bar today and got a bit upset, so I gave her a hard time. Then Albert showed up and scolded me. He seemed really angry."
Violet paused, then said, "Sissy, you shouldn't have messed with Yvette."
"I just got mad thinking about how she used her pregnancy to marry Albert, ruining your chances of getting back with him. I wanted to teach her a lesson!" Sissy asked anxiously, "Do you think he'll come after me..."
Before Sissy could finish her sentence, she saw Yvette getting out of a cab and walking into a pharmacy not far ahead. Instinctively, she looked behind Yvette but didn't see Albert.
Confused, Sissy walked to the pharmacy window and looked inside, shocked to see Yvette at the emergency contraception counter.
Stunned, Sissy quickly said into the phone, "I'll talk to you later, I just discovered a secret!" She immediately hung up, switched her phone to camera mode, and started filming Yvette's back.
On the other side, Yvette bought the medication and dragged her tired body home. Looking at the small pill in her hand, Yvette took some water and swallowed it without hesitation.
Her last child had been conceived without love and hadn't been able to grow up properly. She couldn't let the same thing happen again. Feeling the pill slowly move from her mouth to her stomach, she felt a lot more at ease.
Yvette grabbed some clean clothes and went into the bathroom. When the warm water fell on her body, she felt every inch of her skin start to ache. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes but couldn't remember how she and Albert had ended up like this.
After her shower, Yvette realized Sylvia's bag was still with her, so she quickly called Sylvia. She thought Sylvia would be worried, but Sylvia sounded quite relaxed.
Sylvia inquired, "Yvette? It's so late, why are you calling?"
Yvette bit her lip. "Your bag is still with me, aren't you worried?"
"I'm not worried. Victor told me you were taken by Albert. I figured you'd take my bag when you left," Sylvia said cheerfully, "I didn't dare call you!"
Yvette asked, puzzled, "Didn't dare call me? Why?"
Sylvia laughed. "You were taken by Albert, of course, I didn't dare call. What if you two were talking or doing something... That would be bad."
"What could we talk about? What could we do?"
"Who knows," Sylvia replied in that same playful tone. "You two could do a lot."
Yvette opened her mouth to refute but found she couldn't. She sighed as she said, "Sylvia, I think I was drugged tonight, just like last time."
