Chapter 318 I'll Make Up for My Mistakes
"So, you spent last night at your place in East Town with Ms. Orlando?" Vincent asked, his voice low and hesitant.
Albert shot him a look. "Is there a problem?"
Vincent, taking a deep breath, said, "Mr. Valdemar, Ms. Orlando's situation is a bit delicate right now. You need to be careful about the optics. There are plenty of folks in the company who aren't exactly your biggest fans."
Albert shrugged, a smirk playing on his lips. "So what? I want everyone to know that whether it's Yvette or the Valdemar Group, I want them both."
"Mr. Valdemar..."
Vincent tried to say more, but Albert's intense gaze shut him up. He had no choice but to follow behind.
Suddenly, Albert stopped and turned to him. "Can we push back all the work after this meeting today?"
Vincent nodded. "Yes, Mr. Valdemar."
Albert checked his watch, his usually tense expression softening a bit. "Good. Keep an eye on things. I'm heading back to the Valdemar Estate."
Vincent looked surprised. "Going back to the Valdemar Estate now?"
Albert's warning look made him drop his gaze. "Yes, Mr. Valdemar."
The warm sun and drifting clouds painted a serene picture. The dappled tree shadows highlighted Albert's chiseled profile. At a red light, he glanced at the flowers on the passenger seat, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
The car rolled into the Valdemar Estate, and Albert stepped out with the flowers.
Hyacinths weren't the most striking flowers, and Albert hadn't really noticed them at the shop. But the owner mentioned that their meaning was the rebirth of love.
That phrase hit Albert right in the feels.
He walked into the estate, heading straight upstairs. Ignoring the curious glances from the staff, he knocked on David's door. After a few tries with no answer, he grabbed a passing servant. "Did she take the kids out?"
The servant eyed the flowers in his hand, her expression a bit odd. "No."
Albert didn't catch her look. "Then where are they?"
The servant looked troubled. "Well..."
Albert's gut twisted. "Spit it out."
"They left the Valdemar Estate."
Albert's face darkened. He didn't wait for the servant to stop him and pushed open David's door.
Just as the servant said, the room was empty. The place that was full of life yesterday was now completely cleared out, even the bed linens were changed.
Albert's brows knitted together, emotions boiling over.
Yvette ran away again!
Last night had been intense, even if she was drugged, their connection felt real. How could it not be?
Yvette knew he'd been searching for her all these years, yet she still chose David.
She didn't love him anymore.
She took the kids and left with David, clearly wanting to avoid him.Thinking about it, Albert felt like his heart was being stabbed with a knife. The pain was unbearable.
In a fit of rage, he threw the flowers to the ground, the purple-blue petals scattering everywhere.
The servant, startled by Albert's sudden outburst, shrank back silently.
Albert's bloodshot eyes betrayed his frustration as he stormed downstairs. He had to get Yvette back. He thought last night would change things, but she didn't care. Her words of "missing him" were just lies, driven by the drug.
His chest burned with rage as he rushed out of the Valdemar Estate. Just then, Cheryl walked in. Despite his fury, she stayed calm, clearly knowing what had transpired.
Cheryl stopped him. "Albert, where are you going?"
Albert turned back, his chest heaving with emotion, and looked at Cheryl with an unsettled expression.
"I'm going to find Yvette," he said, his voice trembling with excitement.
Cheryl raised her hand to tug at his arm. "Who are you looking for?"
Albert sensed Cheryl's strange attitude but still explained, "I'm looking for Yvette, the 'Jessica' by David's side. Grandma, don't tell me you don't know she's Yvette."
Cheryl's expression remained unchanged. "Since you said she's now Jessica, why call her Yvette? Albert, as the head of the Valdemar Group, you should know what to do and what not to do."
"Grandma, I'm doing what I should be doing." Albert's eyes deepened. "I'm looking for my wife. Is the head of the Valdemar Group not allowed to look for his wife?"
"Is she your wife now?" Cheryl emphasized. "She's not; she's David's wife now. She has her own life to live, why do you have to disrupt and entangle it?"
"Yvette is my wife. You can make up all the stories you want, but you can't erase that fact."
Hearing Albert's words, Cheryl's usually calm face finally changed.
Her usually kind face became stern, her eyes sharp, and her words became forceful.
"Albert, whether she's Yvette or not, she's David's wife now. Moreover, they have two children, my great-grandchildren. If you continue to entangle, not only the adults but the children will also be affected! If you want to hurt them, you have to get past me first!"
Albert's face changed drastically, his whole body enveloped in a strong aura of hostility.
"So you knew? And you're still protecting their lies!"
Cheryl's expression was stern. "What else could I do? At this point, your fighting only brings disgrace to the Valdemar Family! Your obsession will hurt many people!"
"Do you know what you're saying? I'm hurting them? They're the ones hurting me!" Albert said in a deep voice. "Knowing I was desperately searching for Yvette, my wife Yvette and my brother David settled down and had children in Stellaria! Now I just want to set things right, and you say I'm hurting them?"
Cheryl answered, "It's her choice. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness. Albert, you can't give her happiness, David can, so you should back off."
"I was wrong before, I forgot about her and hurt her." Albert's eyes were determined. "I made the mistake, I'll make amends. David doesn't need to do it for me."
